To Give Back To Their Alma Mater UC High School Alumni For those who were at the January 8, 2011 Baguio Colleges and Baguio Colleges Foundation High School Grand Alumni Homecoming, the hand clasps and pats in the back say it all: it feels good to hold the hand of an old friend. But it is not just the alumni of BC/BCF-HS classes of 1960 to 1970 that can sense the elation of their enduring friendship. e University of the Cordilleras felt the alumni’s touch of friendship and generosity when they turned over a donation worth Php. 212,652.50 to the UC Alumni Fund on January 8, 2011, homecoming day. e amount comes from the homecoming fundraiser in a gesture of gratitude by the alumni towards UC for nurturing their formative years through quality education. “Most of us benefited from the generosity of others. I am one of the lucky ones. I was able to complete my education out of the generosity and kindness (of this institution),” declares Bernardino “Buddy” Valencerina, member of BC/BCF-HS class of 1965, also a UC-BCF civil engineering alumnus, student leader, spark plug and UC-BCF professor of engineering. Valencerina who was at one time executive assistant to the office of the UC executive vice president thanked UC for being instrumental in “fulfilling our dreams and for making us what we are today.” Outlining plans for the use of the donated amount, Samuel S. Villanueva, civil engineer and graduate of BC/BCF-HS class of 1964 says the amount is earmarked for the construction of a covered courtyard for the UC High School estimated to cost at least Php. 5.5 million. “e donations we collected last January 8, 2011 will seed this project,” says Villanueva, who earned a degree in civil engineering from UC-BCF in 1969, magna cumlaude, and was ranked number 3 in the civil engineering board examinations the following year. e donation is currently under joint management by UC and the alumni group, meantime that consultations are ongoing with the UCHS community and alumni stakeholders purposely to draw inputs on the particulars of the project. Currently the vice president for construction for TWC Construction, Inc. based in Henderson, Nevada, USA, Villanueva together with other in- country and US-based alumni of BC/BCF High School are organizing a “mini-reunion” to be held at Las Vegas, Nevada on September 2 to 5, 2011. Villanueva says their group will try to obtain “more donations during our September reunion in Las Vegas to raise as much money as we can to fund this project.” “See you in September” - the Las Vegas Reunion BAGUIO COLLEGES HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES ‘60 TO ‘70 GRAND REUNION Plans have been finalized for the BC/BCF High School reunion, according to the Philippines and US-based planning and organizing committee.
