Montessori Meets 3rd Grade South Carolina Curriculum

• Montessori’s goal is to move students to the abstraction level. Students are given choice within limits.

• We incorporate technology. Research also becomes an integral part of our curriculum. (This is a key to transitioning to upper elementary.)

• Students are required to be more independent and accept responsibility for their learning.

• Help students transition from lower elementary to upper elementary.

• Preparation for PASS / ACT Testing

Reporting/ Grades

• 3rd-5th grade will receive letter grades (A,B, C, D,F)

• Summative Assessments- tests will be given once standards have been taught.

• Study guides will be given at least 2 days ahead for Science & Social Studies

• Progress Reports will be sent home throughout the grading period to show student progress

• Weekly Work Plans will be sent home on Tuesdays

iPads

• Every student in grades 3 – 5 will be issued an iPad in RHSD #3.

• At home & School- Students will be responsible for the device and the charger.

• A fee will be collected at the beginning of the school year which will be used for replacement cost charged for lost or damaged devices.

• Pencils (not mechanical)

• Set of personal Ear Plugs (for iPad use)

Grade 3 Requests:

- 6 Marble Composition Notebooks

- A clipboard

- NO 3 ring binders
