To introduce the TL through a listening activity.

To provide a model for the final task.

Purpose of handout in relation to lesson as a whole:

To provide space for Ss to record answers.

Notes:

• Reveal the instructions and check for understanding of ‘HR’.

• Give Ss time with a partner to discuss what the graph represents.

• Elicit random examples.

• Reveal the next instruction and give Ss Handout 1 for slide 4.

• Play the Audio and have Ss complete the graphs.

• Elicit answers from Ss and compare them with their predictions.

• Play Audio again if necessary and have Ss discuss the final questions with a partner or small group.

Answers:

Purpose of slide in relation to lesson as a whole:

To focus on the target language and link it to the audio.

Notes:

• Reveal the model sentence from the Audio and elicit the parts of speech in green.

• Explain that certain adjective collocate with particular prepositions ‘interested in,’ etc., and after a preposition we have to use either a noun or a verb + ing = gerund.

• Reveal the sentences and have Ss fill in the blanks with either a preposition or an adjective.

• Elicit answers and address any questions.

• Draw attention to the formation of the negative structure in 4.

• Ask Ss for more examples of this structure (examples may include good/bad at, anxious/concerned about, count/depend on).

• Reveal the next question, and elicit from Ss that the adjective and gerund will be more stressed than the preposition.

• Drill the sentences.

• Ss discuss whether any of the statements are true for them. Have them pay particular attention to the pronunciation.

To take part in a discussion using the target language from the lesson.

Notes:

• Reveal the instructions and give each S a copy of Handout 2 for slide 6.

• Give Ss a few minutes to come up with options for the questions, plus their

own question. You may wish to give them an example.

• Show Ss the examples, and then ask them to mingle and get some responses

to their questions, by asking them and giving Ss the options. They should

record the responses of the Ss for later.

• Monitor and make notes of any good/incorrect usage of the target language for

feedback.

• At the end, have Ss work with a partner, and ask them what they recommend a

company could do to make life better for their employees.

• Conduct feedback.
