Race 1 KATIE ARMISTEAD MAFFRA MARDI GRAS PLATE - 1100 metres:

Love Dreaming began awkwardly. Near the 900 metres when racing ungenerously, got its

head up and became unbalanced for several strides. For some distance after, continued to race

ungenerously.

Foreign Policy on leaving the gates was bumped by Hollywood Chief, which shifted out. In

the early and middle stages raced keenly with its head up. When under pressure in the

straight, layed in. Post race veterinary examination of Foreign Policy identified the presence

of blood at both nostrils. Foreign Policy shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be

trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b)

start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at

least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

Hollywood Chief bumped at the start. Approaching the 50 metres was steadied and shifted

out to obtain clear running around the heels of Foreign Policy, which shifted ground when

laying in.

De Valor when questioned, rider D. Smith explained from the inside gate he had been asked

to take a sit behind the lead, however; after being crossed, the mare was not comfortable in

behind and failed to respond to his riding from the 600 metres. A post race veterinary

examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Race 2 TURNBULL PLUMBING PLATE - 1200 metres:

Palaios acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer B. Jenkins who advised that the colt

had swelling in the near foreleg and was therefore unfit to start, Stewards ordered the

withdrawal of Palaios at 9.20 a.m. B. Jenkins will produce a veterinary certificate in regard to

this matter.

Murphys Corner after being placed in the stalls became fractious, got its foot caught, was

removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and declared unfit to start. Stewards ordered

the withdrawal of Murphys Corner at 2.00 p.m. All monies bet for a win and/or place and

concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to

time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of

the ticket: win bets Belsapphire - 6 cents; place bets (for winner) Belsapphire - 34 cents;

place bets (for 2nd

) - Antianara 12 cents; place bets (for 3rd

) Skywishes 12 cents. *All monies

bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.

Skywishes began awkwardly. In the middle stages raced wide without cover.

Nordic Red began awkwardly. Near the 500 metres was steadied when tightened by Sophie

Darling, which momentarily rolled in. Rider C. Robertson reported that the mare, who had

ear muffs added to its gear for todays race, relaxed during the run more than expected and

consequently got out of its ground in the early stages of the event. He added when placed

under pressure Nordic Red did not respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination

did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Tryst Again in the early and middle stages raced greenly with its head up.

Race 3 GIPPSLAND VETERINARY HOSPITAL PLATE - 1400 metres:

Our Boy Flynn slow to begin.

Theracian shortly after the start became unbalanced when bumped by Not Taken, which

shifted in.

Crown Halo raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres.

momentarily awkward close to the heels of Crown Halo.

Not Taken rider D. Stackhouse reported that the gelding felt flat and may have come to the

end of its preparation. Stewards will follow up with Ms C. Alderson in the ensuing days. A

post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Majals rider L. Meech was severely reprimanded for using her whip on seven occasions prior

to the 100 metres.

Race 4 WYNNES COACHES PLATE - 1400 metres:

Fashion Day moving in the gates prior to the start and slow to begin and then tightened by

Ay Oh Whey Oh, which shifted in on leaving the gates. From the 500 metres until passing the

400 metres was held up for a run.

Taser when racing wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride and sit outside the lead

passing the 800 metres.

clair Raider raced wide without cover from passing the 800 metres.

Charming Penny from passing the 600 metres until near the 300 metres was held up for a

run.

Ay Oh Whey Oh for a short distance approaching the 100 metres, raced greenly.

Assertive Star when questioned regarding tactics, S. Arnold advised that at Sandown on

February 17, 2016 the colt was severely hampered at the start and for this reason settled

further back than the stable anticipated. He added that today with the small field they

expected to position in the first four or five, however; when caught wide without cover in the

early stages, he pressed forward to take up a position behind the leaders with cover.

Miss Scandilous (fifth placegetter) rider A. Mallyon advised connections that the filly may

be better suited with the addition of a tongue tie to its gear.

Race 5 CERVUS EQUIPMENT HANDICAP - 1717 metres:

Dubrovnik connections advised over the shorter distance and from the wider gate, will be

ridden more conservatively compared to its last start. Took up a rearward position. Layed in

over the final 100 metres.

Dancing Rose began awkwardly with its head up and from its wide gate took up a rearward

position.

Gift From Heaven over the final 70 metres was held up for a run and went to the end of the

race without being fully tested.

Linga No Longa when questioned regarding tactics, App P. Moloney explained that he was

instructed to be more positive in the smaller field, however; rather than race wide without

cover he elected to push forward to take up a position just off the leader near the 1500 metres.

Race 6 BROWN WIGG HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Another Martini on leaving the gates was bumped heavily by Our Skeeta, which in turn was

bumped heavily by My Naughty Hoaks, which shifted in.

Our Skeeta bumped heavily at the start. App J. Payne reported after being caught wide in the

early stages she allowed the gelding to stride and join the lead near the 800 metres. When

questioned regarding the success of the geldings first up performance, trainer I. Jones

explained that he had planned to retire Our Skeeta but after doing well in a new paddock, the

gelding indicated it may be up for another preparation. He said at a recent trial at Sale over

800 metres, Our Skeeta finished off the trial well, indicating it may be better placed first up in

a middle distance event. He added that it was not his intention for Our Skeeta to race in a

forward position but given its success today over the similar distance, he would expect the

gelding to be ridden positively from the gate and in a similar manner to todays race.

Shanghai Rooster began awkwardly unbalancing J. Todd momentarily in the saddle and

consequently losing ground.

My Naughty Hoaks near the 1300 metres when racing wide got its head up and raced

ungenerously for several strides when being shifted in to obtain cover.

Eastern Peak raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Rider L. Meech reported

that the gelding choked down and this had a detrimental effect on its race today. A post race

veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Absolutely Certain passing the 900 metres was steadied form the heels of Calmalist. From

passing the 400 metres until approaching the 250 metres was held up for a run.

Race 7 DONALDA MOTORS MAFFRA CUP - 1000 metres:

Sunday Escape blundered on leaving the gates. Rider M. Allen reported that the gelding,

first up from a spell and with the topweight allocated of 60 kg, peaked on its run near the 200

metres. He added that Sunday Escape would benefit from todays race. A post race veterinary

examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Danuki began awkwardly and then tightened.

Illustrious Lad began awkwardly, shifted out, and tightened Danuki onto the hindquarters of

Jungle Edge, which was turned inwards.

Jungle Edge was turned sideways after being contacted on the hindquarters leaving the gates.

In the straight layed in proving difficult for D. Gauci to ride out in his normal manner.

After the running of this race Stewards upgraded the track rating to a Good 3 at 4.37 p.m.

Race 8 ANDERSON REMOVALS HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

Somethinghappening in the middle stages raced keenly. Rider D. Gauci reported that the

gelding was better suited to tracks with more give in them. A post race veterinary

examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore and will require a Veterinary

Certificate of fitness prior to racing again.

Tycoon Felix approaching the 200 metres when struck with the whip, shifted out abruptly

before being straightened by I. Gundogdu.

Ethicist App Ben Thompson reported he felt there was something amiss with the gelding as

it gave ground quickly in the straight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any

obvious abnormalities.

Go One Better (third placegetter) rider D. Stackhouse reported that the gelding raced flat and

may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer P. Worthington confirmed that the

gelding will now be spelled and directed towards tracks with give in them.

Valuable Star rider A. Mallyon reported that the mare did not appreciate todays track

condition.

Race 9 DUART HOMESTEAD HANDICAP - 2200 metres:

Trevor trainer Ms S. Trolove was fined $50 for presenting the gelding in the mounting yard

without its approved gear (ear muffs). Tightened at the start and lost ground. Made the

crossing at the 1900 metres awkwardly.

The Tinker slow to begin and shortly after the start shifted in and was checked from the

heels of Tia Dalma. Raced wide without cover from the 800 metres.

Bloukrans began awkwardly, shifted in tightening Trevor and King Joy onto Proclamation.

In the incident, Trevor lost ground. When caught wide in the early stages, was allowed to

stride and join the lead passing the 1600 metres. App P. Moloney could offer no explanation

for the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious

abnormalities.

King Joy tightened at the start.

Taqneen began awkwardly.

Prospector slow to muster speed.

Chadra Boy when wide in the early stages was allowed to stride and take up a more forward

position.

Tia Dalma for most of the event raced wide without cover. Passing the 400 metres was

momentarily steadied when tightened between Proclamation, which shifted in slightly and

Wright Opinion, which was taken out by Bloukrans, which was also taken out by King Joy.

In the circumstances, no action was taken.
