about us

History

Collingham Football Club was established in 1887 and currently has 24 teams and approximately 400 playing and social members from age 4 upwards.

In 1994, a Senior Saturday team was created which joined the Central Mid-lands League Premier Division. Having finished 14th in their 1st season pro-motion to the Supreme Division was clinched the following season by finish-ing 4th. The following 5 seasons were played out in the Supreme division with a best placed finish of 5th in the 2000/01 season which also included an ap-pearance in the league cup final in which a goal in stoppage time gave Shire-brook Town the trophy in a 1-0 win.

The 2001/02 season saw entry into the FA Vase for the 1st time in the clubs history. The 2nd Qualifiying round match vs Meir KA was played at Station Road on 22nd September 2001, resulting in a 2-1 win for Collingham. Boston Town were the opposition in the 1st round proper on Saturday 20th October, but the cup run come to an end after a 3-2 defeat.

At the end of the 2001/02 season, the team from Collingham was disbanded and it was not until the 2015/16 season that the team returned to the Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Football League South Division and with a talented young squad many of whom had not played adult football previously they managed a very respectable 13th place winning 13 of their 34 games in the league.

Good afternoon and welcome to Station Road for this afternoon’s game.

We would like to welcome the players, management, committee and supports of Clay Cross Town to

Collingham for what is a fairly big game for them!

Its been a busy week but one that has resulted in 6 hard earned points so far after tricky visits to Dronfield

and Harworth which at times were played in weather more suited to December than the April springtime

that we should be having!

Just 2 games remain in what has been an excellent season and the current run of form that we are on

proves what happens when everyone works hard and wants to achieve the same thing.

Well done lads and lets finish this season with 6 more points!

Enjoy the game.

last time out (part 2)

With the end of the season firmly on the horizon Collingham began a run of 4 games in 8 days with a trip into Derbyshire to face 12th placed Dronfield Reserves who themselves were unbeaten in their previous 4 games. The Collingham starting 11 showed 5 changes from their 3-2 derby win over Newark including 3 of the back 4 which played in the game last week. Tonight’s team included 16 year old Scott Wilkinson who was making his first start of the season after making his senior debut against Thorne earlier in the month.

Despite the changes in the team Collingham started the game well and were in front after just 9 minutes when Matt Ward delivered a cross to the back post that was met by Tom Moore who beat the advancing goalie to the ball to head into the net. They doubled their lead on 15 minutes when Jack Wilkinson received the ball on the right hand side of the penalty area, beat his man and produced a wonderful finish into the top corner of the net.

A mixture of wintery rain and a truly awful playing surface were proving difficult conditions to play attractive football and despite the odd half chance the score remained 2-0 going into the break.

Dronfield made a double substitution at half time and immediately started the half with more purpose than they had shown at any point in the 1st half. Chances were still coming for the away side though and the best chance to increase the lead fell to team secretary Tom McGill who was thrust into the No.9 role and really should have scored when he was through 1 on 1 only to direct his shot straight at the home keeper leaving McGill to beat the ground in frustration.

Dronfield got back into the game on 72 minutes when a loose ball in the box was driven into the back of the net. This lifted the home side but despite their efforts the Collingham defence was resolute and they was determined to leave with the 3 points that they had come for.

After a long 4 minutes of time added on the referee blew his whistle and Collingham had recorded their 5th consecutive win in the month of April and climed a place up to 5th in the Central Midlands North table with 3 games remaining.

Good afternoon,

I would like to welcome Clay Cross Town to station road for todays game.

They have had a really good season so far and it will certainly be a good

test for us.

We have really had to dig deep this last week with playing 2 games in 3

days against a couple of physical well drilled teams and I would like to

thank the squad of players for their efforts.

I must give a special mention to Drew Allwood and Scott Wilkinson who

have really stepped up to the mark lately and despite them being only 16

years old have played a part in recent results. Drew has been with us for most of the season while

Scott has been coming with us for the last month and despite their age they have both adapted well

to senior football and deserve much credit.

We are in a great run of form at the minute as Thursday nights win at Harworth made it 10 unbeaten

which really is a fantastic effort. We have 2 games left this season which are both at home and I hope

we can get a positive result in both these games to end the season on a high and give us some

momentum going into next year.

Enjoy the game.

Black Dragon Badges South Division

Selston take the Black Dragon Badges South division championship for the second

consecutive season since their return to the league and they can now hope for

promotion after the many hours of hard work put in over recent months on ground

improvements. They got the point they required for the title thanks to a goal in the

27th minute from Dominic Airey against Pinxton which means they pip Eastwood

Community by a single point.

Elsewhere goals were certainly at premium. Third placed Sherwood Colliery shared

the points at home to Mickleover RBL. Jammy Meehan put the Wood ahead early in

the match, but were pegged back by a second half equaliser from Abidemi Lamina for

the Legion.

Keyworth United’s long wait for a win finally ended at the 21st attempt as they beat

Blidworth Welfare 2-0 at Platt Lane to record their first victory since October 8th. The

all-important goals came in the first half from Matthew Antcliffe and Lemah Griggs.

No goals at all at Highfield Road, where Swanwick and Holbrook St Michaels failed to

find the back of the net.

weekend round up Report by Richard Lane

Abacus Lighting Central Midlands League Roundup for April 22nd 2017

Black Dragon Badges North Division

The Black Dragon Badges North division title is still undecided as FC Bolsover stayed

in the hunt by beating Harworth Colliery 2-1 at Scrooby Road. Josh Aitken and Jake

Ballinger were Bolsover’s scorers with Kyle Pashley replying for the home side.

Clay Cross need to take a point from Bolsover on Wednesday night to secure the

title. Tideswell United had a narrow win at Bilsthorpe to consolidate fourth place

with Alex Pugh and James Handley on target, Paul Leatherland on the scoresheet for

Bilsthorpe.

Newark Town completed an eventually comfortable 6-2 win over Welbeck Lions after

letting a two goal lead slip. Sam Wilford and Cole Maule put Newark two up with just

six minutes played but a well struck free kick by Aidan McTighe and a second from

Liam Arnold made it level by the 18th minute. Newark led thanks to an own goal by

the interval and another just after the break before a Kieran Wall double ended the

scoring.

Askern also scored six on their visit to Thorne Colliery. Tom Dobbin opened the

scoring on 39 minutes, before Askern found their shooting boots in the second half,

Lewis Williams and Jordan McCabe making the game safe with fifteen minutes to

play. A hat trick in the last ten minutes from Chris Telling rounded off the win.

Dronfield Town Reserves took their undefeated run to four matches with a 3-1

defeat of Phoenix at Stonelow Road. Goals from Theo Wilson, Adam Robson and

Juninho Blake saw Dronfield home with Sohail Hussain getting a late reply for the

visitors.

last time out (part 1)

This absorbing Station Road derby could've gone either way, right up until the very last minute, when Jackson Buckthorp got the final touch to the ball to steer it past Oliver Sinclair, after both sides had frantically vied to make a clean contact on Daryl Price's dipping free kick from out on the left flank. Overall, Collingham probably had the lions share and better of the clear cut chances and would've felt that their extra effort in the attacking third warranted the win, but by the same token, Newark could consider themselves unlucky not to have held on to take a point after a solid defensive display, with Will Nelson in particular looking like a tower of strength as he put a great shift in attempting to thwart the twin spearhead of Price and Marlon Grundy and the obvious threat they posed.

Price had two good chances inside the first ten minutes, but his first strike, just thirty seconds in, was blocked by Ian Wade, while his second was well stopped by Sinclair. Jayden Driver dispossessed Aaron Martin and burst forward down the left flank, but having taken a return pass from Price, the 'visitors' left back screwed his shot wide of the right hand post. Jammy Lloyd, the Blues captain, had Newark's first shot on goal of note, when, having surged across the edge od the six yard box, his angled shot on the turn, deflected into the waiting arms of Spencer Ellis.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute, when amid a scramble for possession just outside the Newark area, Price drilled home an unstoppable shot.

But the 'home' side were on level terms just three minutes later, when Tyler Martin chased the ball down as Spencer was about to kick it clear from the edge of his area, and having got the faintest of touches a split second before the Collingham keeper could make any contact, nicked it past him and ran on to knock a shot into the now unguarded net.

Sidnei Costa won the ball on the halfway line and quickly released the ball to Price who slipped it forward first time into the path of Tom Moore, who ran towards the right to avoid the advancing presence of Nelson before drilling the ball past Sinclair from twelve yards out. Collingham had two more chances to increase their lead before half time: Craig Bridge released Grundy on the left and he cut in along the dead ball line towards the Blues goal before forcing a save out of Sinclair and Costa picked out Price with a long ball, but Wade forced him to turn inside tolook for a shooting optionand as he consequence, the diminutive front man had to rush his shot and as a consequence he struck the ball straight at Sinclair.

Our Visitors Today – Clay Cross Town FC

The club made the decision to change its name from Parkhouse FC in April 2012 in an attempt to secure a better geographic identity than it had failed to achieve over the previous twenty-three years under the former name.

The name was taken from the Clay Cross Town team that had originally formed in 1909 after the amalgamation of the Clay Cross Works FC and Clay Cross Zingari FC. In their first season they won the Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup being the first team from the town to do so.

The club folded though in 1911 with debts owing to the princely sum of £12. The club re-emerged again in 1919 and played their football in the Derbyshire Senior League. They enjoyed a period of success for the next five-years before once again closing the doors as the premier team of the town in 1924.

Eighty-Eight years later we chose to take the club, for the first time into the twenty-first century and so once again Clay Cross could officially boast a ‘Town’ club.

There has been no change to the members of the club or any of the management team so we will offer the same level of hospitality that previous visitors have enjoyed at Mill Lane and welcome everyone to our friendly club. The four links of the chain on our new club badge are there to depict the four trustees that were so important to the purchase of the Mill Lane ground in 1993 and the development of the Parkhouse club in its formative years.

The management team of Ant Lynam and Andy Thornton will once again be at the helm and hoping to improve on a twelfth place finish in the south Division last season.

After many years in the waiting we can now boast our third season with floodlights on our ground and the acquisition of the same was by funding only from ourselves and no grants from the FA or county association. We will therefore again be able to compete in the Floodlight Trophy this term after losing out in the final for the last two seasons.

last time out

Newark were reduced to ten men nine minutes into the second half, when Tyler Martin was shown a straight red card for a bad foul on Matt Ward, that fully warranted the match referee's decision to dismiss the Blues goalscorer on the spot. Ironically, as often happens, Newark upped the ante despite their numerical disadvantage and as Nelson marshalled Grundy and Price, Aaron Martin paced forward down the right wing and delivered a cross into Spencer's six yard box that only needed a touch, but the Blues had nobody on hand to provide one. Ward dropped a long free kick towards Costa but Wade reached the ball first and headed it clear at the expense of a corner which came to nothing. But Costa was soon on the attack again, cutting through the right channel before

shooting across the face of goal and narrowly wide of the left hand upright. Bridge picked up a stray pass in the centre circle and knocked the ball out wide to Driver whose long kick found Price beyond the back post, whose effort was blocked but fell into the path of Bridge who had continued his run, but when he struck the ball first time it flew wide of the left post. Sinclair did well to hold onto Driver's long shot and released the ball forward quickly, Cole Maule

sprinted forward down the left before a cross towards the Collingham goal that crossed the line beneath the crossbar and either by accident or design, Newark ware on level terms in the 70th minute. Once again, Sinclair came to the rescue, saving from Grundy as Collingham looked to regain their lead. Danny Purves struck a free kick somewhere into a distant back

garden, but minutes later planted a corner into the heart of Collingham's defence that was only cleared as far as Sam Wilford, whose spanking thirty yard shot was held by Spencer. The game had become a real end to end affair by now, but late in the day, Jackson Buckthorp's goal claimed all three points for Collingham after Buckthorp had combined with Jack Wilkinson and Sam Biggs out on the left flank and Newark had conceded the free kick that led to the goal described above. In stoppage time Wilkinson went to ground under a challenge by Will Carlisle in the penalty area, but the referee waved Collingham's appeals away.

Buckthorp threaded a pass through to Bridge, who looked odds on to score, but Sinclair got down to his left to pull off a great one handed save. Bridge and Price were both thwarted by Sinclair in the final minute of added time from Driver's left wing cross... and that was that! FT: Newark Town 2 v Collingham 3
