What an encouragement it is anytime God's children come together to worship and praise Him. We rejoice that Peyton King was baptized Sunday night, it is always a blessing to witness someone obey the Gospel! Few things are more intangible than hope. Just the sound of the word "hope" has a ring to it of encouragement and possibilities. I like the word so much that Renee and I named our youngest daughter Hope. It would be impossible to convey all the blessings derived from hope. Our lives are molded and colored by this intangible from the Lord. As a Christian, hope becomes an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast. Life is not brought to a sudden shipwreck where there is an abiding hope. As long as our eyes are fastened on heaven, the winds may blow, the seas may toss us, but nothing can impede our spiritual progress toward our home with God. Consider these great bible examples of an abiding hope and an obedient faith, that should help us increase our hope in the Lord today. During the years that Noah spent building the ark, he was very much in the minority. But he won! When Joseph was sold into Egypt by his brothers, he was the minority. But he won! When Joshua crumbled the walls of Jericho with the blasts of the horns, he was the minority. But he won! When Elijah brought down fire from heaven and put the prophets of Baal to shame, he was in the minority. But he won! When David was ridiculed and laughed at by his brothers, went out to meet Goliath, he was in size the minority. But he won! When Christ was crucified between two thieves, by Roman soldiers, he was the minority. But He won! Paul said, "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." (1 Corinthians 15:19). But our hope is not just for this life only, but the hope for the life to come, that spiritual life with God and Christ for eternity. Surely we should take hold on this hope, and treasure it to the end. "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13). God Bless, Todd CELEBRATING OUR 150th Anniversary. I will occasionally throughout this year include some news bits from different years in our history. From 1928, Claude B. Stephenson recorded an average attendance for Sunday school of 110 per Sunday. In his notes he interestingly reported the weather as "fair" to describe 42 out of the 52 Sunday mornings for 1928. He also noted that Bible class teachers were expected to visit any members of their class that were absent on any Sunday. Serious business in 1928!

    “From Where I Sit”

    Todd Parsley

I hope that you enjoyed our time together this past Sunday as much as I did. What an encouragement it is anytime God's children come together to worship and praise Him. We rejoice that Peyton King was baptized Sunday night, it is always a blessing to witness someone obey the Gospel! Bobby McCoy also asked for the prayers of this church and we certainly appreciate a heart like Bobby's. Bobby has been a blessing to me in so many ways since I came to Centerville.

Carter’s Corner GLOW NIGHT 5TH QUARTER WAS A HUGE SUCCESS this past Friday night. The final 5th Quarter of the basketball season included a great crowd of 70+ students, Glow volleyball, glow sticks, laser lights, and lots of neon colored décor. We are thankful for the opportunity to provide our students with a safe and fun environment on Friday nights after sporting events as well as the opportunity to reach out to students who do not usually attend our activities. We are in the process of

planning our first ever 5th Quarter: Extra Innings to following a home baseball and softball game this Spring. 5th Quarters have been a vital part of our youth ministry here in Centerville for many years, and I am looking forward to watching 5th Quarters evolve in the future. SPRING CALENDARS ARE NOW AVAILABLE. It’s hard to believe that Spring time is almost here, but we have a great list of events lined up for our youth of all ages. Make sure you pick up a copy in the office, the Lighthouse, the Youth News Board, or online. APPLICATIONS FOR THE SR. HIGH RETREAT are also ready to be picked up from the Youth News Board or in the Lighthouse. The retreat is scheduled for March 5-8, and we have a great list of activities planned for our students. With the great growth our Sr. High youth group has experienced this year, we are expecting a big group of students to attend. We have upgraded our cabin

reservation this year to a larger cabin in expectation of a great group of students. Make sure to pick up an application and turn it in by no later than Wednesday, February 26th. OUR ANNUAL SOUP-ER BOWL PARTY is set for this coming Sunday night, Febraury 2nd, in the Lighthouse after evening worship for our Jr. & Sr. High Students and their families. Everyone is asked to bring a can of soup and your favorite finger foods to share. We will stay in the Lighthouse until the end of the game or until 10:00 (whichever comes first). I hope you are making plans to attend THIS WEEK’S 2020 CHALLENGE READING is Matthew chapters 16-20. I am proud of the commitment our young people are continuing to make this year, and I hope that all of our congregation will continue supporting our endeavor of reading through the New Testament this year. As you read Matthew 16-20 this week, notice how Jesus’ teachings become more serious and difficult for the disciples to understand. Jesus understood the importance of challenging His followers to grow in their faith as they spent more and more time with Him. In the same way, Jesus challenges us to grow in our faith as we spend more time with him also. May we all strive to dig in to the “meat” of God’s word as we study through the New Testament this year. In Him, Carter
