Dear Hiring Manager:

I am applying for an entry level, operator position, and I believe that I would be a great candidate for your facility because of my sense of urgency, analytical skills, and willingness to learn. I was recently chosen to be one of fifty selected for the first Community Foundation Workforce Scholarship. Honored by the award, I have strived and successfully graduated from Sowela Technical Community College with honors in Process Technology. I thoroughly enjoyed the intriguing degree program; especially the campus internship because it blended both hands-on learning experiences and the science behind it all.

My analytical skills have been improving and expanded upon over the past twelve years in the career field of Mass Communications which includes studying at McNeese State and working at KPLC-TV. In broadcasting, our daily goal is to work as a team. Coverage of breaking news and the process of broadcasting are constantly changing. This is also true for your industry, and I can be of much value to you in your workplace which involves troubleshooting, analyzing production quality, routine maintenance, and keeping customers and clients happy.

During severe weather events, my coworkers and I have worked around the clock. I believe in having a strong camaraderie to keep a team together during long shifts. I would really like the opportunity to become a part of your team working those long days and nights. I want to bring to the table my drive, sense of urgency, and ability to focus no matter the circumstances—keeping processes safely online during stressful events or extreme weather situations. I am a zealous, team player who doesn’t shy away from challenges.

You and I both firmly believe that everyone’s safety and the well-being of the community is a core value for any workplace. Like many companies in this area, your facility is undergoing expansion, and I understand your need to get projects happening safety and efficiently. Safety has always played a role in my life from growing up on a farm and machinery to working with ladders, generators, electrical components, and proper operation of masts and with KPLC. In addition, my instructors at Sowela consistent preached on safety especially during internships.

Through learning more about this industry, I am very interested in the control room aspect. My favorite class involved running simulators that operated pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, compressors, separators, and distillation columns. Other times we were asked to troubleshoot various related problems including loss of feeds, pump failure, and fouling of heat exchangers. I have received my Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®) which was well-received when touring the Westlake Chemical polymers, Citgo, Phillips 66, Axiall, Calcasieu Refining, and Lake Charles LNG. I would be delighted to meet with you for an interview to further express my interest in becoming a team member.

I am passionate about my career change, and a new operator with a strong and dedicated work ethic, morals and commitment is definitely what is needed now. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my skills and experiences can contribute to your ongoing success.

Thank you for your consideration,

Todd Ryan Taylor
