Hello GBC family!
Due to COVID-19, it would be extremely difficult this year to have a packing party for
Operation Christmas Child. This year, we are encouraging each family to pack at least 10 boxes
in your home. Boxes will be on the second floor of the church, outside of the storage closet in
the fellowship hall.
In addition, our mission fund committee has agreed that GBC will cover shipping for our goal,
which is 500 boxes this season! I am including some information below that you may find
helpful in shopping for items to fill your boxes.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOPPING TIPS
Here are a few websites I use to buy in bulk to fill boxes. I pray this list helps you and your
family fill boxes this season to spread the Good News and Great Joy of Jesus Christ. Thank you
for all you do to make this ministry a success year after year at GBC!
www.hjcloseouts.com
Deals change on this website weekly, so be sure to check regularly. Things I have gotten here in
the past include: hats, drawstring bags, sunglasses, large plastic cups, pens/pencils, flashlights,
soccer balls, and pencil pouches. Be sure to carefully read the description of each item to make
sure how many you are actually buying. I think this company purchases items that have been
misprinted or surplus items. The code for free shipping is OCC .
https://westernstarballs.com
Soccer ball deals. I like size 4 or 5 for shoeboxes.
www.academy.com
Also has some good clearance deals on soccer balls from time to time.
www.dollartree.com
Dollar tree has the best deal on soccer ball pumps (when in stock, usually sells out fast). Free
shipping to store. I also like dollar tree for nylon rope and clothespins for clothes washing kits
for older girls, small hand tools and zip ties for older boys, bandanas, and coloring books (after
Christmas the coloring books go on clearance but sell out fast).
Other tips:
Follow “Shoebox Shoppers" on Facebook. She posts good deals from stores and websites as they
come available. She also posts neat ideas of things to include in your boxes. The creator of the
page is a year-round volunteer for OCC. I have learned a lot from her over the years.
Walmart has random clearance at times but seems to be the best price for notebooks and
crayons during back to school time. Staples/office max/office depot also have good sales during
back to school time. I also like Big Lots for notebooks especially if you can stack a 20% off
coupon during their “friends and family sale".
If you are comfortable with shopping in store, Rock Bottom in Greensburg usually has assorted
goodies in their dig bins that work for shoeboxes. They also have sales where you can fill a bag
for cheap which is a good way to load up on “fillers" for your boxes.
We have had good luck at Bargain Hunt (Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, Louisville) finding things
such as brand new clothes, school supplies, soccer balls, small toys, pencil pouches. They buy
out surplus from stores like Target. We have bought brand new clothes for as low as $0.10 each
from Bargain Hunt.
Kohls also has good clearance on clothes if you are there in the right time, we usually do the
best in October when the summer clothes are marked down.
Old Navy has great clearance on clothes, sometimes as low as $0.19 per item at times.
Dollar General has good clearance items. I like their sandals and “Croc” style shoes for kids that
are usually less than $1 on clearance.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact me or Kim Allen.
Blessings!
