Misuse of water may soon entail Rs

500 fine or 3-month imprisonment under

the UP Municipalities Act 1959 sections

270 and 277.District administration has

asked Lucknow Municipal Corporation and

Jal Sansthan to open helplines for water

conservation inviting public to post

complaints and pictures of buildings

people misusing water resources. Both

agencies also need to identify and make a

list of people found exploiting

underground and supply water.

Recently , Jan Suvidha Kendra's

helpline number 052226111178 9 opened

a folder titled `water conservation'.

People can complaint against misuse of

water and also give suggestions for water

conservation on these helplines. The DM

said municipal commissioner and general

manager of Jal Sansthan will be

responsible to ensure wastage is stopped

exploitation of water. These messages will

be directed to LMC and Jal Sansthan to

take corrective measures. LMC's revenue

department has been asked to submit

details on number of water-bodies and

their condition by May 30 so that

reformative measures may be taken.

People applying for water-supply

connections must install rain-water

harvesting projects in their houses

(especially HIGs and MIGs) to obtain

approval.
