Design Brief Design a bridge in WestPoint bridge

builder. Minimal overall cost. If bridge is below 24m, excavation of

river banks is required. The highest point must not exceed

8.5m above the river banks. Must be constructed of no more than

50 joints and no more than 120 members.

Design Brief Bridge deck must be 10m wide to

accommodate traffic. May choose from different member

materials. May choose either hollow or solid

members. Must be able to support its own weight

along with a 480kN load from passing traffic.

Design Brief Bridge can either have one lane or

two lanes on the deck. The bridge must comply with safety

provisions of the 1994 LRFD AASHTO Bridge Design Specification.• Material densities• Load combinations• Tensile strength of members• Compressive strength of members

Final Design This design of bridge was decided to

be the final design because it was the cheapest and most versatile bridge design.

it also follows all of the constraints listed in the design brief.
