CHARACTERISTICSNewly developed plastic mould steel, which, compared with grades 2311 and 2738, offers: higher hardness and better through-hardening polishability to grain size 600 (high-gloss polishing characteristics on request) grain reliability even with delicate grain designs, improved weldability, higher thermal conductivity.
Nitridable, hard-chrome platable, surface hardenable as supplied; thanks to the higher basic hardness, better supporting effect for surface-finishing processes (e. g. PVD coating).
APPLICATIONWith no dimension restrictions for compression and injection moulds, for example for bumpers, instrument panels, chairs, garbage containers, bottle crates, TV cabinets, etc.
DELIVERED CONDITIONHighHard: hardened and tempered to 310 – 355 HB ( approx. 1,050 – 1,200 MPa)
Normal hardness: hardened and tempered to 280 – 325 HB ( approx. 950 – 1,100 MPa)

CHARACTERISTICSModified, corrosion-resistant mould steel, polishable, etch-grainable, economical to machine.
APPLICATIONInjection dies, mould inserts, slit dies, profile dies, extrusion tools, drop forging tools and coaxial housings for processing PVC aminoplastics and additives; blow moulds.
Important note: When processing aminoplastics and PVC alloys, excessive work tem-peratures (> 160 °C) can result in highly aggressive fission products, such as hydrochloric acid HCI, which can cause corrosion on the surface of the mould. No mould steel is resis-tant to this. The production temperature of 160 °C should therefore not be exceeded.
DELIVERED CONDITIONHardened and tempered to 265 – 310 HB ( approx. 900 – 1,050 MPa) Annealed on request
CHARACTERISTICSSulphur-alloyed standard mould steel with very good machining properties. Not suitable for polishing, etch-graining or hard-plating. Through-hardening properties comparable with 2311 ISO-BM.
APPLICATIONFor core parts of compression and injection dies with no special surface requirements and low mechanical stress. Mould assemblies for low-stress mould frames.
Note: Due to the controlled sulphur content (economical machinability), the material has poor toughness properties.

CHARACTERISTICSThis hot working steel, specially developed for the aluminium and magnesium casting industry, is characterized by extremely high toughness properties. The design of this steel is based on an alloy modification for resistance to tempering brittleness, as well as special secondary metallurgical measures which result in the ISO-B grade. This provides the basic requirements for long tool life in die casting and pipe extruder processing. With targeted heat treatment steps after the forging process, such as fine structure treatment, the key properties of the steel, such as: fine-structured texture non-directional toughness in all test positions temperature fatigue resistance
are reliably achieved. Experience in practice shows that this material offers significantly better tool life results than the standard grades 2343 ISO-B and 2344 ISO-B.
APPLICATIONHighly stressed diecasting moulds and inserts with long tool life expectancies. Pipe and rod extrusion tools, such as die holders, insert and bridge type spider tools, liners and liner holders. Plastic moulds subject to abrasion stress with tool hardening up to 50 HRC, combined with surface coating where applicable.

NOTES: The measurement uncertainty of the Brinell hardness test based on the diameter procedure is 3 % (s. DIN 51225 and ISO/R 156). When converting Brinell hardness values to other units of measurement (HV, HRB, HRC, tensile strength), it must be taken into account that the values in the table are mean values. When assessing any discrepancies, the conversion scatter must therefore be taken into account in addition to the measurement uncertainty. (see message from ECSC No. 3 dated March 1980 and No. 4 dated March 1982).

The values specified only apply to rod lengths up to 2,000 mm for rods with finished sizes between 16 and 25. Allowances and permissible tolerances for the thickness of flat rods are determined using a reference dimension, which is the equivalent of half the sum of width and thickness. The values in the table only apply to flat rods with a 8 : 1 width-thickness ratio.
