Top 1 Mistake Big Companies Make

On Social Media

My second post this year treats the topic

of mistakes on social media. I am sure that

most of you will find yourselves and your

practices mirrored in this article, especially

if you are a medium to big company.

I noticed that usually small business

owners and even some medium-size

businesses have a tendency not to do it,

but this soon vanishes as the number of their online followers and fans grows.

What on earth could I be talking about?

I’m talking about social media interaction. The majority of those whose businesses

are on all major and relevant social media platforms tend to ignore their fans and

followers.

‘That is not true!’, I hear you screaming; you don’t believe me. After all, you say, it isYOU who organizes all those contests and lots of people like them & participate; it is

YOU who adds fresh and engaging content each week that people never forget to

‘Like’ or ‘Share’. And let’s not forget that it’s YOU who always has a question for your

followers, and your followers always give you their answers.

So in your opinion your social media profile is a very interactive, engaging and

interesting one that people love.

I am going to show you that not everything on your profile is as ‘cool’ as you think itis. But in order for me to make my point, I am going to need a bit of help from your

side.

Will you…?

It is all in the replies

Now, please think about the last

successful, big, BIG business that you

have recently visited on Facebook (it

can be your own big BIG company).

Did you read any of the

comments people wrote on their

page/photos? I bet they have hundreds

of comments, don’t they?

And… even if you did not read them all

(it would be insane to do so), you

probably skimmed through some tens of comments, right?

Did you see any comments from that business posted as replies to fans’ reactions?

I doubt you saw ten. This is the number one mistake on social media big businesses

do… they tend to ‘forget’ to reply to the comments they get.

So you have a Like-Share-Comment contest; if you want people to comment on your

profile, to engage in discussions and to be interactive, then you need to reply to their

comments, not just enjoy the immensity of the social interaction you are getting.

If you have a ‘Question of the Week’ marketing plan, then you will want people to

answer to your question.

But do you stop there?

No, if you get answers, ask more questions. If you are looking for opinions, ask

‘Why?’. If you want reviews, ask for more details.

Engage. Interact. Communicate.

Let your fans know that you are there, that you exist, that your profile is more than a

marketing tool, that you are truly using it to get closer to your followers, not just to‘spread the word’ about your company or your products…

So next time you think about posting something on Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn or

any other social platform, think about at least 5 more questions and answers that

you could ask or give to your audience.

Speaking of which…

When was the last time you interacted with your fans on social media platforms?

What were you talking about?

Hugs,

Mari.
