International Dot Day is cele-brated on September 15 eachyear to harness the creativi-

ty in each of us. The inspirationbehind the event is the children'sbook 'The Dot' by Peter H Reynolds, which emphasisesthe importance of a simple thinglike the dot.

Students of Nursery cele-brated this day by completing acaterpillar by using their indexfinger to make dots as a revisionactivity of number values. Theyalso did ear bud painting on var-ious things like a dice, dragon-fly, globe, doughnuts, grapes etc.

The little wonders of Kinder-garten during this global cele-bration of creativity, courage, andcollaboration did an array of ac-tivities like word building withplay dough and joining the dots toreveal an image. They enthusias-tically decorated yummiliciouscookies with cheese, chocolatesauce, jam, choco chips and gems.

The students of class I de-coded the name of Vashti by

solving 2 times tables and drewobjects of their choice using thedot technique. They also wrotethe word ‘Thank You’ on a hand-kerchief using paint and earbuds. They listened to The DotSong-a beautiful song whichtalks about making a mark.

'Make your mark' and seewhere it takes you. The studentsof class II celebrated Interna-tional Dot Day through a fun ac-tivity in their maths class re-lated to multiplication. They en-circled the correct number ofcolourful gems using a bangleto indicate the product of the ta-

bles dictated by the teacher.Students of class III collabo-

rated with their partner schoolin Texas, USA, on this event. They understood the importanceof noting down good ideas andto journal regularly. To fosterself-expression they explainedthe concept of multiplicationthrough the AI app autodraw.

The students of class IV dis-played an excellent variety ofart work combined with amaz-ing imagination when encour-aged to use their creative skillsto draw starting with a little dot.

Students of class V enthusi-

astically used MS Paint to rep-resent various fractions. In ge-ography pupils used dots to dig-itally mark the biosphere re-serves of India in a PowerPointpresentation template.

The activities motivated thestudents to explore skills of cre-ativity and imagination thusleading to experiential learningthrough self-discovery in a play-way method. The students ofBirla High School will not beafraid to make a mark wherev-er they are and will always en-deavour to discover the creativ-ity within themselves.

I t was an ordinary day at school.Normal classes were going on. Noexams were scheduled in the near

future, and we were going through thecurriculum. I don't know why, but I hadthe intuition that day that somethingfunny or exciting was going to happen. However, when three periods wereover with nothing out of the ordinaryhappening, I started having doubtsover my intuition.

Suddenly, our principal came toour classroom, and to everybody's sur-prise, informed us that the school wasplanning to take the students on anexcursion to Araku Valley the comingweek. It was going to be a two-day

trip, and we would becovering Araku Valley,Kothapalli waterfalls, strawberry gardens atLambasinghi, and anight stay at Anantagiri.I cannot explain to youin words how I felt at

that time. More than the trip, Iwas awestruck about my intu-ition coming true that day. It'sone day that I will remember fora long time.

WIND IN MY HAIR'Tons of mistake to not regret...A whole life to spend....And it doesn't end...'

If I were a cartoon character, Iwould probably be Rapunzel fromDisney Tangled. I have always be-

lieved myself to be thecentral or pivotalcharacter of my life.Rapunzel similarly isthe main character ofthe movie Tangled. Ipossess her energyand charisma to someextent. Her bravery

and positivity is something I strive toachieve. Rapunzel is extremely opti-mistic. She believes that every cloudhas a silver lining. Her optimism andperseverance to push forward throughthe most difficult times lead her to herdestiny. Rapunzel expresses her emo-tions through her paintings. She hasbeen locked in a tower for 18 yearswithout any, or almost no company, except her pet chameleon, Pascal. Herbeing isolated from the world for 18years is something that has been mo-tivating me these two years. Her iso-lation had unleashed her multifacetedalter egos. She is an expert cook, a bak-er, singer, an artist and of course a

dreamer. Her being locked away in atower had made her mind pose sev-eral questions about the supposedlydangerous, unknown world ahead ofher. Rapunzel was no ordinary andstereotypical girl. I would like to pos-sess her innate healing powers. Beingable to heal people in a world where

everyone is hurting will be a veryblessed opportunity. Her powersabound in her extremely long blondehair.

Rapunzel has the purest and mostbeautiful souls. She is very forgivingand empathetic person. Criminalsare people we despise. But she lookspast all their murderous and un-kindly gestures and puts her trust inthem. She converts Eugene Fitzher-bert, the most notorious thief, into agenuine person. Through her loveand kind soul she is able to bringabout the Eugene who was lost andburied deep within due to lack of loveand affection. I would love to be ableto forgive people and give themchances like her. Rapunzel is an ex-tremely loyal friend and downrightrefuses to fight Cassandra who at onepoint turns against her. I would liketo be like her and fight alongside myfriends at any situation. Lastly, Iwould like to learn that it is not nec-essary to like everyone or be liked byeveryone. Rapunzel never gave peo-ple any reason to hate her but somegood people actually thought she waspretentious and rambunctious whenshe was just being her true self.

pions Mumbai Indians on Sundaynight. It is imperative for RCB to im-prove upon their batting as they seekto keep their place in the top half ofthe points table. It will be importantthat the openers -- Devdutt Padikkal(217 runs) and skipper Virat Kohli (203runs) -- provide a solid start. But theopening duo would also need supportfrom the middle-order, which crum-bled against Kolkata Knight Riders.

All eyes on Maxwell The likes of Glenn Maxwell (233

runs) and AB de Villiers (207 runs)will have to perform in unisonagainst a strong CSK attack. Aus-tralian Maxwell did justify his highprice tag during the first leg, be-coming the side’s top scorer. He

would be raring to go once again aswill the ever-reliant De Villiers. TheRCB bowlers will also have to forgetthe underwhelming display againstKKR. While pacers Mohammed Sir-aj, Harshal Patel bowled well, Kiwiquick Kyle Jamieson, leg-spinnerYuzvendra Chahal and all-rounderWanindu Hasaranga all had leakedmore than 10 runs an over.

Sam Curran fit to play CSK could have suffered the re-

versal in their tie against Mumbaihad it not been for youngster Rutu-

raj Gaikwad’s mature unbeatenknock of 88 off 58 balls. The team’sleading run-getter Faf du Plessis (320runs), Moeen Ali were out for duckswhile Ambati Rayudu was retiredhurt on nought. Veterans SureshRaina and Dhoni also failed to reachdouble-digit scores and the side wasreeling at 24 for 4. But Gaikwad wasnot ruffled and kept his calm, steer-ing the three-time champions to a re-spectable 156 for 6. He stitched cru-cial partnerships with all-roundersRavindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo, who smashed 23 runs off eight de-liveries, taking the team over the 150-run mark. Defending a modest total,CSK showed immense resilience asthe bowlers led by pacer Deepak Cha-har and Dwayne Bravo handed the“Yellow Army” their sixth win of theseason. A win on Friday will takethem back to the top of the table. CSKwill also have the option to chooseyoung England all-rounder Sam Cur-ran, who had been one of the break-out stars of last year’s IPL, shiningwith both the bat and the ball. PTI

There are some times when our batsmen look to do that to get some extra

opportunity. Virat is obviously desperate to do well, he likes one-on-one sessions to get

his confidence and basically find his rhythm. It definitely looks like he has found it.

The Hammers suffered a gut-wrench-ing 2-1 defeat against United in thePremier League when David De Geasaved Mark Noble’s stoppage-timepenalty after Jesse Lingard’s late win-

ner. But David Moyes’ men got a measure of re-venge three days later as Manuel Lanzini’s firsthalf goal dumped United out in the third round.Solskjaer made 11 changes and Moyes opted for10 alterations, with West Ham’s understudiesmaking the most of their moment in the spot-light. Ryan Fredericks ghosted past Alex Tellesand cut back for Lanzini to sweep past Unitedgoalkeeper Dean Henderson in the ninth minute. That was enough for Moyes to secure a first winover United since they sacked the Scot after lessthan a season in charge in 2014. It was also WestHam’s first victory at Old Trafford since 2007.

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea won 4-3 on penal-ties after a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. Much-maligned German forward Timo Werner head-ed Chelsea into the lead in the 54th minute, fin-ishing off Reece James’ cross for his first goal in

11 games. With Villa fan Prince William watch-ing from the stands, 19-year-old striker CameronArcher equalised in the 64th minute with a close-range header from Matty Cash’s cross. Jamesscored Chelsea’s winning penalty in the shoot-out after Ashley Young and Marvelous Nakam-ba missed for Villa. Harry Kane ended his goaldrought as Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito San-to knocked out his former club Wolves 3-2 onpenalties after a 2-2 draw at Molineux. TanguyNdombele gave Tottenham a 14th-minute leadwhen he charged down Conor Coady’s clearanceand shot past John Ruddy.

Arsenal eased to a 3-0 win against third tierAFC Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium. TheGunners, featuring 10 changes from the week-end win at Burnley, went ahead in the 11thminute. Gabriel Martinelli was fouled by NestaGuinness-Walker and Alexandre Lacazette slot-ted home the penalty. Emile Smith-Rowe doubledthe lead in the 77th minute and Eddie Nketiah’simpudent flick wrapped up the win three min-utes later. AFP

Karim Benzema capitalised on anearly Mallorca mistake at the San-tiago Bernabeu before three goalsin five minutes put Madrid 3-1ahead, two Asensio strikes coming

either side of a curling effort from Mallorca’sLee Kang-in. Asensio completed his treble witha bending shot of his own in the second halfand went off to a standing ovation, leaving Ben-zema to add his second and Isco to tap inMadrid’s sixth late on. Benzema’s second goalwas his 200th in La Liga, making him only the10th player to reach the milestone. “ClearlyKarim is playing very well,” said Madrid coachCarlo Ancelotti. “Not just himself but for theteam. He is a complete striker.” Victory liftsReal Madrid two points clear of Atletico at thetop of La Liga, with Sevilla up to third afterthey had earlier eased past Valencia 3-1. Asen-sio was born in Palma and began playing forMallorca aged 10, only to join Real Madrid in2016. He declined to celebrate any of his threegoals but will have made an impression on An-celotti, who was giving the 25-year-old his firststart of the season. “Asensio did very well. It is

true that from that position he can hurt the op-ponent, between the lines he has a lot of qual-ity,” Ancelotti said. Benzema now has eightgoals this term and there were noteworthydisplays too from Eduardo Camavinga, thehugely exciting 18-year-old midfielder, as wellas Madrid’s two central defenders, David Ala-ba and Eder Militao, whose distribution wasinstrumental in almost all the goals.

Despite scoring two late goals to beat Va-lencia, Ancelotti criticised his team for againbeing too open at the back. Mallorca hadchances but they were blown away by Madrid’srevitalised attack. The first goal, though, wasa gift, as Josep Gaya failed to control a rou-tine pass across the defence and then slippedtrying to recover, allowing Benzema to raceclear and finish. Militao instigated the sec-ond with a driven pass out to Vinicius, whoseangled pass sent Rodrygo in behind. His de-flected cross was prodded out by Mallorcagoalkeeper Manolo Reina, for Asensio to fin-ish. Lee hit back almost immediately, weav-ing past Militao and Alaba and curving a shotinto the bottom corner. AFP
