"A physician once told me that nothing arouses so much

bitter enmity and heated arguments among his

colleagues, as the subject of cancer. This may be due tothe guilty recollections of cancer victims expiring who

might have been saved; or of the memories of patients

pronounced hopelessly ill who recovered under the

treatment of a 'quack,' or who miraculously livedwithout further treatment. Possibly these guilt reactions

and the remorse over exhausting the money of patients

and their relatives in futile cancer treatments, account

for some of these psychological manifestations whichare expressed in hostility and attack."

Antioxidant supplementation and risk of incident

melanomas: results of a large prospective cohort study.

    Asgari MM

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether antioxidant supplement use is

associated with melanoma risk in light of recently published data

from the Supplementation in Vitamins and Mineral Antioxidants(SUVIMAX) study, which reported a 4-fold higher melanoma risk in

women randomized to receive a supplement with nutritionally

    appropriate doses of antioxidants.

Conclusion: Antioxidants taken in nutritional doses

do not seem to increase melanoma risk.

Non-sunscreen photoprotection: antioxidants addvalue to a sunscreen.

    Matsui MS, et al

Non-sunscreen protective strategies have been developed.

These include topically applied botanical extracts and other

antioxidants as well as topical DNA repair enzymes.

Standard terms of photoprotection such as sun protection

factor (SPF) do not accurately reflect the photoprotection

    benefits of these materials.

Botanical antioxidants and vitamins C and E to a broad-

antioxidants, and DNA repair enzymes can contribute

value when applied topically to human skin in vivo.

Oxygen breathing may be a cheaper and safer alternative to

    exogenous erythropoietin (EPO)

Recently discovered normobaric oxygen paradox demonstrates that

renal tissue can be stimulated to increase EPO production via a simple

pattern of oxygen breathing at normal atmospheric pressures. This

leads directly to the hypothesis that oxygen breathing may provide

chemotherapy patients with a convenient and inexpensive alternative to

ESAs. Stimulating endogenous EPO production eliminates the small

risk of immune system reaction associated with ESAs. Further, the

endogenous physiological EPO doses provided by this method may be

safer, in terms of cancer mortality, than the exogenous pharmacological

    doses inherent in ESA administration.

(290-320 nm) component, is the primary cause of

    many adverse biological effects including

    photoageing and skin cancer.

A preponderance of evidence from the best

observational studies... has led to the conclusion that

    public health action is needed.

Primary prevention of these cancers has been largely

neglected, but we now have proof that the incidence

of colon, breast and ovarian cancer can be reduced

dramatically by increasing the public's intake of

    vitamin D."

A daily dose of vitamin D3 could cut the

risk of cancers of the breast, colon and

ovary by up to a half, a 40-year review

    of research has found.

The evidence for the protective effect of

    the "sunshine vitamin" is so

    overwhelming that urgent action must

be taken by public health authorities to

boost blood levels, say cancer specialists.

    Dear Dr. Weeks,

    In our studies we successfully

    destroyed prostate and breast cancer

    tumors and metastases withmembrane disrupting peptides;

    examples for these are naturally

    occurring peptides like mellitin.

    These peptides destroy the outer

    cell membrane and cause rapid

    Melittin alone is extremely toxic

to cells and induces immediate celllysis, but becomes inactive when

    coupled with avidin.

    The incorporation of the MMP2

    target sequence into the peptide

was used as a means for targetingtumor cells.
