TYPICAL HIGH SCHOOL DAY

• Presently/Block Schedule

• 5 classes per semester

• 4 classes consisting of 80 minutes

• 1 skinny block class consisting of 45 minutes

• This results in a total of 9 credits per school year

Students must earn 6 out of 9 credits to be

promoted.

SCHEDULING CLASSES

Your child should have received a registration packet

yesterday which includes his/her appointment time.

Registration Appointments will be held at your child’s

middle school on the following days:

• Knox Doss Middle School – March 5th thru March 8th

• TW Hunter Middle School – March 18th thru March 21st

• Station Camp Middle School – April 2nd

WHAT IS A PROOF OF RESIDENCE?

Proof that you live at the address listed for you in the registration materials.

Must provide copies of 2 items from the “Acceptable” list, even if you are here out of zone.

TYPICAL FRESHMAN SCHEDULE

Most freshmen take these classes:

• English I

• Algebra A / B or Algebra I Honors

• Physical Science

• Wellness

• World History and Geography

• Fine Art (Visual Art, Theater, Music, Band, Etc.)

• 1 to 2 Elective Classes

WHAT IS AN ELECTIVE??

(General Elective)

Any class that you take that is NOT

already chosen for you as state or

county requirements.

It can be something you like, but may

be something that you have to take

because we could not meet your

requests.

WHAT IS AN ELECTIVE FOCUS?

Three credits in a single subject area:

(must be beyond minimum requirements if there are

requirements in that subject)

SHOULD MY STUDENT TAKE HONORS OR AP COURSES?

HONORS

• More rigorous content (than

standard)

• State curriculum, County

guidelines

• More work required (than

standard classes)

• More personal responsibility

required

• 3 points added to the final course

grade

ADVANCED

PLACEMENT • Most rigorous content

• Nationally approved curriculum

and activities (College Board)

• Standardized test taken at the end

of course

• College credit may be granted

based on score

• 5 points added to the final course

grade

For Both: Teacher recommendation and parent approval required

REPEATING CREDITS

• Students will only be able to repeat a

class if they fail a course.

• However, both the F and another grade

appear on transcript.

• A class cannot be repeated to improve

the grade.

• Credit Recovery is another option to

earn credit for a failed course.

CELL PHONE POLICY

• Phones and other recording devices are only

permitted at teacher’s discretion.

• If being used without permission, the phone will

be confiscated.

• Consequences:

1st offense – given back at the end of the day

2nd offense – phone will only be returned to the

student’s parent/guardian.
