1.ObjectivesThis is a hands on course intended to develop your knowledge of appliedeconometrics throughthediscussionofselectedtopicsrelatedtoempiricalresearchinmanagement.Thetoolsandtechniquesthatyouwillbeexposedinclassarefoundinpaperspublishedintopmanagementjournals.Afterthiscourseyouareexpectedtobe able to discuss and implement the techniques presented in class in your ownresearch.TotakethiscourseyoumusthavesuccessfullycompletedEconometricsI.Youshouldalsohavedevelopedbasicskillsinstata.2.ContentsThe topics covered in this course include: Introduction to the course; Datamanagementusingstata;Matching;Difference‐in‐differences;RegressionDiscontinuity; Heckmanmodels;EventHistoryAnalysisandMarginaleffectsusingstata.Wewill useStata15 in all classes. Youmust bring your own laptop to class. Stataestimationcommandswillbeintroducedduringthecourse.3.MethodologyClasses will consist of lectures and seminars. Students are expected to prepare inadvance and actively participate in each classes. There will be several exercisesdeveloped in class related to the application of the tools and techniques discussedduringthecourse.Thecourseinstructorwillprovidethestudentsaccesstodatasetsthattheywilluseinassignmentsandexercises.Alistofreadingsinadditiontothoselistedintheoutlinewillbemadeavailableasthecourseprogresses.4.GradingThiscoursewillbeassessedbasedontwocriteria:Contributiontoclasslearningandtwopresentationsthatthestudentsareexpectedtododuringthecourse.
‐ Contribution to class learning will be determined by active participation inclassdiscussionsandyourabilitytodemonstratethatyouhavepreparedthematerialsassignedtoaparticularclass(50%ofthefinalgrade).

‐ Assignment1:Prepareapresentation(max5minutes)ofaresearchideathat
youcoulddevelopduringyourPhDusingeconometrics.Thefollowinginformationmustbeincludedinyourpresentation:
A research question, how existing papers have approached this questionempirically, the dataset that could be used to answer this question, a potentialeconometric technique could be used, what are the main empirical challengesandlimitationsthatyouseeimplementingthistechnique.For this assignment you should not present your own empirical analyses orresults.Thepresentationswillhappen inour first class.The slidesmustbe sent to thecourseinstructortwodaysbeforethecoursebegins(25%ofthefinalgrade).
‐ Assignment2:Forthefinalassignmentthestudentswillpresenttheresultsofa
smallempiricalprojectthattheywilldevelopduringthecourse.Theinstructorwillprovidedatasetsduringthecoursethatcanbeusedtodevelopthisproject,studentscanalsousetheirowndatasets.Theobjectiveofthefinalprojectisnottopresentstatisticallysignificantresults.Theassessmentcriteriawillbebasedonthechoiceoftheeconometrictechniquegiventheavailabledataandtheawarenessthatthestudentshowsintermsoftheadvantagesandlimitationsofthechosentechniques(25%ofthefinalgrade).Detailsforthefinalpresentationwillbeannouncedinclass.
