Topo Basics Topo maps have

“Contour Lines”. The contour lines show

the elevation of the ground at each area of the map.

This area is at the 2000 foot

elevation.

This area is at the 1500 foot

elevation.

Areas with few contour lines have

less change in elevation.

Areas with many contour lines have

more change in elevation.

Almost all maps, not just Topographical Maps have a scale to show distance.
