Tori’s CSE 3 PosterComputational Thinking:

Throughout the beginning of our course, we learned as a class so much about computers, along with learning how to be computer literate. We learned several things that gave us the ability of computational thinking, including: -the difference between software and hardware- -binary digits and how they go from being a code into what we see on the screen - the limits of both humans and computers and how to use them as efficiently as possibleLater on we learned the importance of social networking, computer etiquette, and so much more that allows us to be as savvy on computers as possible.

Making Information Available to the World with HTML and Web Pages:

The first lab this quarter, we got to make our own webpage using the coding language XHTML. This was the first time I was ever exposed to computer programming, and it was a lot of fun to see immediate results from the code I was making. Later on, in lab three, the TAs exposed us to more advanced coding, where we can:• change the font• make tables• make horizontal lines and even create images that will send you to a different link when you click on them. They also taught us to use the Secure Shell Transfer Client to put all of our Masterpieces on the world wide web!

Desktop Publishing with MS Word:During this lab, we were given the opportunity to play with the “Styles” ribbon on Microsoft Word. Before this lab, I thought I knew everything there was to know on Word. However, we learned how to make an interactive table of contents, create headers, and move images in around the text to make it fit in the best way possible. In this lab, we also learned about the Color Models and were then given the opportunity to make a document of our own, discussing our career goals.

Data Analysis and Visualization with MS Excel:

This lab taught me the basics of using Microsoft excel. Never using the program before, I found the lab to be extremely useful. We learned how to make charts, use functions, color code what we were using, and even to make graphs and charts of the data we inserted!

Visual Programming with Alice:

This lab taught me how to use the fun of programming to create virtual worlds. We learned how to use loops, commands, and calls to manipulate different characters and objects into scenes.

Dynamic Webpage Programming with JavaScript:

JavaScript and labs 7 and 8 took programming to a whole new level. We took webpages similar to those we made in XHTML and made them interactive. JavaScript gives you the ability to call functions, create loops, and make buttons that actually perform in order to give an individual the feeling that they are actually interacting with the webpage.

Presentation of Information with MS PowerPoint:

During this lab, we were able to show off all of the cool things that we made while using excel. We used PowerPoint and learned how to:-use special effects on all of our slides-paste in charts or graphs from other programs to use as a visual aid-using the design tab to add to the aesthetic appeal of the slides
