PROFILE
The Community Mobilization Against Desertification is a land use Non-Governmental Organization
established to improve resource management and alleviate poverty in South West Kenya. The
Government of Kenya officially registered the Organization as an NGO in 1995. It has its co-
ordination office in Rongo Town of Rongo district. Currently C-MAD works with small-scale farmers in
Rachuonyo, Homa-Bay, Rongo, Migori and Suba districts of Nyanza Province.

Food for the Hungry is a not for profit Organization that works with churches, leaders and families to
provide the resources they need to help their communities become self-sustaining. When disasters strike,
Food for the Hungry is often one of the first organizations on the ground to provide and facilitate
emergency relief assistance to those in urgent need of food, shelter, and medical care. FH is committed
to implementing long-term development programs such as agriculture training, clean water and food
security programs, church development, child development, nutrition education and HIV/AIDS care and

Practical Action’ vision is of a world free of poverty and injustice in which technology is used to the

Founded in 1966, Practical Action has built up a reputation as a respected international NGO which

PROFILE
KICIP started as a Primary Health Care Programme under the Church of God in East Africa, Kima
Mission Hospital. By then its main activities were health education, expanded programme on
immunization, maternal child health, Family planning and nutrition among others.

PROFILE:
RODI was started as a CBO in 1989 to enhance food and income security among poor farmers using
sustainable agriculture techniques. It was registered under NGO acts in 1999.
RODI was founded with an aim to address poverty, food and income insecurity, among poor
communities using as much as possible resources oriented development approaches. Concern about the
high levels of poverty and the way poverty pushes people into crime, because their coping and
survival mechanisms are criminalized and the fact that rehabilitation of prisoners both inside and
outside prison, hardens petty offenders, made us have interest in working with prisoners and ex-
prisoners and their communities.

PROFILE:
Kenya Institute of Organic Farming (KIOF) is a Non- Government Organization (NGO) focusing on
sustainable improvement of livelihood of smallholder farmers though organic farming. The institution
has been in operation for last twenty two (22) years.
The organization started officially in 1986 but launched its first activities in 1987, being the farmers
training and extension program in the central districts of Kenya. The interest in farming methods
appropriate to small- scale farmers, having few financial means has stimulated a relatively quick
growth of the organization. KIOF’s goods success in the field and resulting publicity has prompted
development organizations not only in Kenya but also from other African countries to request for
training of their extension staff on organic farming. Also a demand for general information on organic
farming has become apparent.

PROFILE:
Forest Action Network (FAN) is a networking Non Government Organisation with head offices at
Nairobi, Kenya. Established in 1995, FAN has since worked with local communities, policy makers and
researchers to develop a niche in advocating for an improved policy and legislative climate to support
the sustainable management of natural resources. With stakeholders at the local, national, regional
and international levels, FAN's scope of operation gives it both a national and international outlook.

BRIEF PROFILE:
Kitui Development Centre, Kenya was established in 2001 as a charitable organization under the
NGO Coordination Act 1990. The organization is dedicated to the improvement of living standards
through reduction of hunger, disease and poverty by utilizing appropriate knowledge, skills and
abilities among communities in the Kitui District. Empowerment leads the community to a change from
negative attitudes behaviours and practices in order to give life increased hope and dignity. We
achieve his by working with communities to improve health, care and education for children and
provide socio-economic opportunities for families.
KDC Orphans and Vulnerable Children Care and Support Project (OVC), with the support of the
International Labour Organization, focuses on supporting the national plan of action (SNAP) in the fight
against the worst forms of child labour through economic empowerment of communities in the Kitui
