2.  Identify and discuss the development of the tourism industry in one of the six resort areas

in Jamaica (Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Mandeville & the South Coast, Port

Antonio, Negril). Students in their response should address the following questions.

Groups should address the following:

  What is the history of the resort area as it relates to tourism? (How has tourism developed

over time within that area)

  Identify and explain the type of tourism predominately practiced in that area (i.e.

Ecotourism, heritage tourism, adventure tourism). Provide evidence.

  Analyze the social, economic and environmental impact of tourism within that area.

  Identify and explain the role of tourism centers, boards, located in that area or is there a

need for one. .

  Is the location accessible by air land and sea? What is the more favourable mode of transportable in relations to the development of the area.

  Does the location provide the necessary support services to facilitate tourism in the area?

(Attractions, transportation, restaurants etc.). Provide evidence.

  How is the resort area marketed? (i.e., by a tourist board, chamber of commerce, resort

area website, brochures etc.).

Instructions!

Each Course is assessed based on two written examinations and two term papers (a few coursesdeviate). The term papers are;

1.  Individual Research Project (29 October 2012)

2.  Group Research Project (26 November 2012)

1.  Group Work 

  Group Presentation is takes place in week 12 of the semester.

  Presentations should be 15-20 minutes in length.

2.  Individual Research Assignment

  The individual research assignment is a 2500 worded project. Assignment must be

 presented as a formal research, typed and bounded, following the appropriate research

standards outlined in the assignment. This assignment is valued at 30% of the course

grade.
