TOUR OF THE ELISABETH C. MILLER BOTANICAL GARDEN & DUNN GARDENS IN SEATTLE Thursday, April 2, 2015 Limited to 15 people Miller Garden in June – Photo by Barb Christopher HPSO Travel Club is pleased to announce a rare opportunity to visit two acclaimed Seattle Gardens: The Elisabeth C. Miller Garden and Dunn Gardens. The Miller Garden visit will include a tour of the garden by Richie Steffen, the garden’s curator, and Holly Zipp, head gardener. A box lunch with the garden staff will follow on the covered terrace of the house. A docentlead tour of nearby Dunn Gardens, another of Seattle’s finest gardens, coincides with that garden’s centenary. HPSO Board member and horticulturalist Robert Herald and Treasurer Lois Moss lead this tour. The Miller Garden, on a dramatic site overlooking Puget Sound, contains an extraordinary range of plants introduced to the region by Betty Miller, and together with the charitable foundation that supports it, forms the basis of one of the Pacific Northwest’s most important centers for horticultural education (‘Great Plant Picks’ is one of its programs). A very limited number of visitors are allowed at the garden each year. The Dunn Garden, originally designed in 1915 by Olmstead Brothers, evolved over two generations. Along with the Miller Garden, it contains a remarkable collection of woodland plants. Both gardens will have fine displays at the time of the visits.
