A MESSAGE FROM OUR OPERATION SERVICES DIRECTORIn late May, the demolition of the Recreation building and the former Parks and Recreation office in Municipal Park were completed. These buildings sustained damaged during hurricane Florence and our Town Council elected to move forward with demolition. This is exciting news, as it means we move one step closer to the first phase of the Municipal Campus Master Plan. In the coming months we will begin the process to collect engineering design and costs associated with phase one.

However, Municipal Park is not the only site we are making progress with. The future Sturgeon Creek Park, located along South Navassa Road, will soon begin its initial master planning process. Over the course of the next several months, staff will be work with a consulting firm to complete this process, which will include community input meetings about what this future park site should include. Be sure to stay tuned to our social media channels and the Town’s webpage for updates on when those meetings will occur.

Aside from these big projects the Town is pushing forward with other items related to our adopted PROS Plan. You may notice some new programs in this guide that are derived from that plan. Programs that target the teen, tween, and youth populations, programs geared towards water safety, as well as offering programs in different areas of the Town. With an ever growing catalog of classes, programs, and parks I hope you will join us in one fashion or another. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have something you would like to share. We are always looking for feedback.
