Belta Profile

Toyota Belta is also known as Yaris in the middle eastern, European and Americanmarkets. Belta in Pakistan it is seen in two forms, hatchback and sedan. The hatchback

models are in the market by the name Vitz (1000cc) manual and automatic and Belta

(1000cc , 1300cc and also 1500cc but rarely seen in Pakistan) automatic. But uptill now

the sale is more of 1000cc as it low on the buyers pocket in respect to high fuel prices.

Upto now the market is not going for Belta due to its positioning and being a second

hand (imported) car. Its price varies from options condition of the car usually one can

get it between 0.90 million till1.15 million rupees.

As mentioned before Belta’s smaller/hantchback version is known as Vitz/Yaris. There are

certain reasons for Vitz to capture the local market now but earlier when it was imported andwas available for only 0.5 million rupees but now the same car is worth around 0.8-1.0 million

rupees. The same situation might be attained by Belta in future but currently it’s not so.

HIGHLIGHTED POINTS

High duties on the imported cars by the government.

Rare availability of new spare parts.

Expensive and few areas from where the cars computer unit could be

maintained, and if ruined it has to be imported or got a second hand from the

open market.

People have an open choice for purchasing locally assembled cars in due to it

PRICE, MAINTAINANCE, WARRANTY, AVAILABILY OF PARTS, GOOD

RESALE VALUE IN COMPARATIVE TO IMPORTED CARS.

Belta was launched in Japan in the month of November 2005, and its import

started in the year 2007-2008.

Belta is a sedan version of Vitz/Yaris.

It is available in automatic transmission.

In Pakistan it is only available in 1000cc and 1300cc

It is also known as Toyota Vios.

Its predecessor is Toyota Platz & Echo(USA version).

Beside Japan its manufacturing is being done also in Thailand.

Its fuel capacity is 42 liters or 11.1 gallon(USA).

CONCLUSION

Although Belta is now taken as Dog in the BCG Matrix it will soon make a better position

in the market. The following are few point that can be highlighted:

Platz was the older version of this car which got discontinued in the year 2005

and the company came up with Belta.

Belta or any other imported (used) car doesn’t provide any sort of warranty.

Price of Belta parts are some way higher and rare in some markets, but as the

people have started buying Belta this will change soon in the same way as waswith Vitz when introduced in Pakistani market.

Its main competitors in the local market are Honda City, Toyota Corolla Xli and

Gli, if we take about hatchback cars Suzuki swift can eat its share.

Even though Belta’s price is between 9.5 lakh – 11.5 lakh the local manufactured

cars with the price range of 1.05 million(Swift), around 1.3 million for Honda city

and Toyota Corolla have better demand/market and its due to the point

mentioned above and its being brand new zero meter car.
