HOW TO RIDE

Remember: drivers don’t carry cash and cannot make change!

IDENTIFYING YOUR BUS Each bus has an assigned number or letter and is named by its farthest destination. The destination of each bus is displayed on the headsign above the windshield and also to the left of the front door. If you have any questions about which bus to board while using the transit system, please ask the driver or call the CAT Main Office for assistance. CAT buses are also equipped with onboard audio announcements which broadcast the major stops and schedule time points.

BOARDING THE BUS

CAT bus stops and shelters are conveniently located throughout the Harrisburg metropolitan area. Within the urban and suburban areas, you may only board or exit the bus at these designated locations. If you are catching the bus in a rural area, you may “flag down” a CAT bus (refer to the FLAG STOPS on page 6).

Please plan to arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time and stand where the bus driver can clearly see you. Be sure you are standing at the stop for the direction you wish to travel.

EXITING THE BUS

Within one block of your desired stop, pull the cord located overhead the seating area to signal the driver. If you are unfamiliar with the area, let the driver know where you want to exit and they will let you know when your stop is next.

Please exit from the rear of the bus when possible. Remember to always check for traffic when exiting the bus.

BIKE RACKS

All CAT buses are equipped with racks on the front bumpers that can hold up to 2 bicycles at a time. Use of the bike rack is free of charge and available to all passengers. To use the rack, pull it down into the horizontal position and secure your bicycle on both sides. Please return the rack to the vertical position when unloading your bicycle if there are no other passengers using it.

SERVICE ANIMALS & PETS

Service animals are allowed on all CAT vehicles.

Pets may be brought on CAT vehicles but must be in a pet carrier at all times. Emotional support animals are considered pets and must be in a pet carrier at all times.

STANDING IN THE AISLE

Should the bus seating fill to capacity, standees are allowed. Please hold on to a pole, seat handle or strap while standing to help maintain balance.

FLAG STOPS

Make your own bus stop! If you are boarding a CAT bus in a rural area and there are no nearby designated stops, you can “flag” or simply wave to signal the driver. The bus will stop at the closest safe spot to allow you to board.

Be sure to stand on the correct side of the road for your direction of travel.

If you are exiting the bus in a rural area, tell the driver where you are going and pull the cord when approaching your destination. Remember to always check for traffic when exiting the bus.

TRAVEL TRAINING

Travel training is available for the Fixed Route schedule bus system and Shared Ride services. To set up a training session, contact CAT by [email protected].

LOST & FOUND

Please remember to collect all personal belongings when leaving the bus. CAT is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Perishable and cloth items will be disposed of immediately. Other items will be held for 30 days. For our full policy, visit cattransit.com.
