See Mauritius not for what it is, but for what it can be. There are immense investment opportunities in Mauritius. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Co-operation Agreement (CEPCA) with India would be concluded soon- Pravind Jugnauth, Mauritian Prime Minister

India accords great importance to the steady development of umbilical relations between our two countries. The early finalization of the CEPC Agreement will provide great impetus to trade and mutually benefit bother Countries.- Suresh Prabhu, India's Commerce & Industry Minister

TOWARDS 2020: INDIA - MAURITIUS

Mauritian Prime Minister Mr. Pravind Jugnauth was in India to a rousing welcome by the Government of India and he sought trade and investments from India which offer immense potential in that country. India and Mauritius reviewed the entire gamut of their bilateral ties and discussed ways to further expand cooperation during a meeting between Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart. India is Mauritius's largest trading partner and has been the largest exporter of goods and services to the Indian Ocean island nation since 2007.

The various ongoing bilateral development cooperation projects were discussed and new proposals for critical partnership projects in health, disaster management and energy were agreed upon.

I am very happy that Trinity’s India Mauritius Trade Fair is taking place by the Chamber for Impex and Health. Mauritius & India share a very cordial and very good relationship. Mauritius, for Indians, we feel is like a second home.

Mauritius is a place where you can see Indian culture unadulterated, practiced by people for generations. Mauritius & India share a very close relationship because we feel that India & Mauritius have so many things in common that we must shape our future together.

So this fair that is organized there is at the right time and at the right place because we feel India & Mauritius can shape our own future, our own destiny together. I congratulate the Prime Minister of Mauritius and thank him for naming their digital tower in the name of our former Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. MAURITIUS AT A GLANCE:

Mauritius has a liberal trading policy coupled with state-of-the-art logistics, infrastructure and reliable support services which is fully integrated into the international trade eco-system. Mauritius is a key member of regional economic blocs such as the African Union, COMESA, SADC and the Indian Ocean Rim, benefiting from no trade barriers.

Mauritius has great trade relations with Europe and the UAE, with its closest neighbour being Reunion Island which belongs to France, only 220 km away. Travel west and you’ll come across the big island of Madagascar, 805 km away. The East coast of the African continent is about 1800 km further west. Among the African countries that can be approached from Mauritius are Mayotte, Comoros, Seychelles, Ethiopea, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, Swaziland, Lesotho, Maldives, etc.

It's time for Trinity's next mega show in Mauritius, the last one being a grand success, with many repeat exhibitors. This year we have the support of the Chamber for Importers, Exporters and Health, besides a number of other industry associations. Around 68 per cent of Mauritius' total population of over 1.2 million are people of Indian origin. Most of them are descendants of indentured labour taken from India between 1730 - 1834 until early decades of the 20th century.

Over the years, Mauritius has crafted a strong growth-oriented developmental path which has enabled it to achieve one of the highest per capita income of Africa. Indeed, from USD 400 in 1968 its development strategy has put Mauritius at the brink of becoming a high-income economy with a per capita income of around USD 10,000 today.

As an innovation-driven and knowledge-based economy, Mauritius is underpinned by a broad spectrum of sectors which offers a number of excellent business opportunities in numerous fields: agro-industry, aqua-culture and ocean economy, education, financial services, healthcare, hospitality, property development and smart cities, ICT-BPO, life sciences, logistics, manufacturing, media and creative industries, amongst others.

TAKING MAURITIUS - INDIA RELATIONS TO A NEW HIGH:

India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mauritius on cooperation in the field of traditional system of medicine and homeopathy. It envisages exchange of experts, supply of traditional medicinal substances, joint research and development and recognition of the traditional systems of health and medicine in both countries. It also aims at promotion and popularization of the diverse Indian traditional systems. Mauritian Minister of Health and Quality of Life, Mr. Anil Gayan, announced the setting up of a research centre on traditional medicine being used in countries from the region and beyond. The MoU was signed during the visit of AYUSH Minster, Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik to Mauritius. It will promote cooperation in the field of traditional system of health and medicine between the two countries which already share these traditions due to our unique historical and cultural ties.

Indo - Mauritius ties date back to the early 1730s, when artisans were brought from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.[1] Diplomatic relations between India and Mauritius were established in 1948. Mauritius maintained contacts with India through successive Dutch, French and British occupation. At present, around 68% of the Mauritian population is of Indian descent.

Relations with the present government took off to a flying start when, the Mauritian Prime Minister was the only non-SAARC leader to be invited to witness the swearing in ceremony of the new Government in New Delhi in May 2014. So close are relations that Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, has been known to call Mauritius “Little India”. Abhay Thakur, High Commissioner of India in Mauritius, stated that Mauritius derives higher benefit than other countries from the treaties signed with India. He said that according to comparisons between many countries, including South Korea and Cyprus, Mauritius has a favourable treatment. India will soon share with Mauritius the results of its comparison exercise to show how Mauritius is far better than the other countries.

Last year, the Mauritian Prime Minister declared that the venue of this mega trade fair - Cyber Tower 1 would be called Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower and we are delighted to be back this year in the same place, named after our late leader. This exhibition and conference venue is in the heart of Ebene, which easily could be the business capital of Mauritius - easily accessible & where thousands work and stay.

India has become Mauritius’ largest source of imports since 2007. Mauritius has remained the largest source of FDI for India for more than a decade. In 2014-2015 India exported goods worth US$ 1.9 billion to Mauritius and imported goods worth US$ 21.19 million from Mauritius. Besides petroleum products, main items of India’s exports to Mauritius are pharmaceuticals, cereals, cotton, electrical machinery, apparel and clothing accessories. Indians are hugely attracted to the Mauritian tourism industry. The number of Indian tourists has been on the rise during the past few years. In 2015, Mauritius received 72,145 visitors from India, compared to 61,167 in 2014.
