Irish Trade Union Congress
Formed in 1894. The British TUC asked it to amalgamate in 1900, but was rejected. In 1939, about
half of its membership walked out to form the Advisory Council of Irish Unions, which became the
Congress of Irish Unions in 1945. The two organisations were reunited in 1959 to form the Irish
Congress of Trade Unions.
