DISTRICT CHAMPS!Golden Eagles advance to national championship tournament

The Laramie County Community College womens soccer team punched its 7th national tournament ticket in 13 years after winning both games at the District C Tournament on Nov. 6-7.

The Golden Eagles entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed in the North division and played Utah State Uni-versity Eastern in their first match. LCCC took care of business, beating USU 3-0. Sophomore Erin Elder led the team in scoring with two goals.

The Golden Eagles then moved on to the regional finals and redeemed their two-game regular season losing streak to Otero Junior College with a 3-2 victory.

I believe we will be able to outmatch most of our opponents when it comes to speed and moving the ball, and I think the quality of players that we will have

coming off the bench will help us maintain a high level of play all the time, coach Jim Gard-ner said at the begin-ning of the season.

Gardner predicted correctly as the team ran over all its opponents in the closing games of the season.

But the talent of the team isnt just in the starting lineup. Theres also depth on the bench.

The Golden Eagles havent skipped a beat while substituting dur-ing games as the offense looks as explosive as it did when the starters were on the field. Once the women created chemistry within the team, Gardner said thats when they would be difficult to beat.

Jemma House ended the regular season as the Golden Eagles lead-ing scorer with 13 goals. Erin Elder was close behind with 12 goals and Eden Stoddard scored 10.

House also led the team with 10 assists.

A ock of old duck decoys has been painted and decorated as a Fundraiser for the COMEA Shelter by the artists at In-dian Paintbrush Studio & Friends Art Gal-lery and Gift Shop, 1610 Capitol Avenue, in the Hynds Building. Half of the money raised from selling the ducks will be do-nated to the shelter. The ducks will sell for between $25 and $55 during November.
