Montanwerke Brixlegg – in the
middle of the beautiful inn valley
– is proud to look back on more
than 500 years of history.
Already 4000 b.c. copper smelting
had taken place in Brixlegg. right
up to the 20th century copper
and silver ore was extracted in
tyrol and refined into pure metal
in Brixlegg.

today Montanwerke Brixlegg is
a 100% recycling business.
pure copper is made from
secondary materials like copper
containing scraps and alloys.
in Brixlegg, pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical refining processes are being employed in the production of high purity copper and the recycling of economically important metals from the secondary raw materials. in pyrometall-
urgical refining, the metals are smelted and refined at a temperature of approx. 1100° c in the blast furnace. the finish-ed molten mass contains approx. 99 % copper and is cast into anode plates.

elecTrolysis (Tankhouse)
the anode plates are the source pro-duct for the hydrometallurgical re-fining process, in which copper is being refined by means of an electro-chemical process. the copper is strip-ped mechanically and processed as cathode copper. the copper is known for its high level of purity – the copper content is more than 99.99 %.
f o u n d r y – c a s T i n ground billets and slabs made of pure copper are cast on vertical semi continuous casting machines in different qualities and dimensions.

cathodes from Brixlegg are listed under the ticker symbol “Brx” on the london Metal exchange (lMe) as “cathodes grade A”. they complywith the standard en 1978 and the AstM B115.
copper caThodes
round billets and slabs are cast in form of 8 meters length and of varied dimensions with or without oxygen, silver-, phospho-rous or low-tin alloyed and are then cut to the customer’s requirements. these products comply with the standard en 1976 and AstM B170, B379, B187, B224 and B5.copper finds use in the electrical and elec-tronic industry for transformers, contacts (re-
lays), chip supports, cables; in the automoti-ve industry as transmission and connection components for engine control and diagno-sis; in the construction industry for hot water and heating installations, under floor heating installations, as well as for mechanical engi-neering and plant construction and medical technology.
copper BilleTs and slaBs
Granosthe slag from the blast furnace is put on the market under the trade mark “granos”. this product is used for removing the coatings on metal, for de-rusting steel parts (bridge building, shipbuilding, automotive industry).
Nickel Sulfateis used for nickel-plating in the galvanic industry.
Copper Oxychlorideserves as active fungicidal agent for plant protection.
Flowbrix An aqueous suspension concentrate developed by Montanwerke Brixlegg Ag which is well known for being extremely effective as fungicide for plant protection

precious metals are recovered from the anode slime of the tankhouse. gold is used in the dental industry, for jewellery, minting and for electric contacts. silver is used for photosensitive coatings in the photo industry, for alloying purposes, for jewellery and dental industry as well so for min-ting. platinum is used for jewellery, temperature sensors and electrodes. palladium is used in catalytic converters.
since 2002, Montanwerke Brixlegg Ag ist the owner of kovohuty, a.s. in krompachy in slovakia, which has approx. 200 employees. kovohuty, a.s. is also a recycling business, producing around 60.000 t of anodes a year from secondary raw materials. further pro-cessing into cathodes takes place at Brixlegg. production of continuous cast wire rods was resumed in krompachy in 2007. the nominal capacity oft the wire rod plant is 50.000 t per year. in further processes our customers draw these wires into diameters they require for applications in the wides imaginable ran-ge of products. for further informations and contacts go to the kovohuty, a.s. homepage www.kovohuty.sk
recent decades have seen the group, a family business at the start, rise into the foremost rank of world suppliers to the electricity in-dustry. the production units make bars, pro-files and copper wire, keeping in step with the technological evolution in extrusion, drawing and industrial engineering, to achieve our present capacity and production quali-ty, meeting the most demanding standards. At the same time, the company has logically extended it‘s expertise to design and ma-nufacture based on semi-finished products using increasingly sophisticated components. this total industrial process, relying on highly customer-orientated distribution logistics, is today established in ten countries through subsidiaries and partners with more than 500 employees. for further informations and contacts go to the gindre homepagewww.gindre.com
