The Romanians do trust the minister Leonard Orban' action plan of activating the European funds, a grim subject for us. In case the bet is successful(Go d help us!) what could we possibly gain out of it? The assimilation of the European funds is, at this moment, Romania' s only chance to prevent the economic collapse. The hard austerity measures applied by the actual power cannot bring prosperity, be it relative, for the population ,unless they are doubled by s teps of stimulating the economic growth. The executive director of I.M.F Christine Lagarde as well as the prestigious economists such as Joseph Stiglitz have appealed to the completion of the austerity project with steps of stimulating the ec onomic grow th. In ou r case the consu mption has been r educed through the reduction of population income and the economic crisis has diminished the demand of Romanian products meant for export. The economy has no chance of growing in these conditions; the only hea lthy source of fun ds meant for economic deve lopment rests in the European funds. These funds, at the same time allow the establishment of various projects which train the local capital and have a multiplying effect on the economy, in other words they generate activities which create workplaces in connected econo mic domains. We have all seen that foreign investments are mostly relative especially when they are bas ed on the assembly of components produced in different countries, such as the case with the Nokia factory at Jucu. At the same time the European funds can gi ve solutions for financing the infrastructu re works. An eloquent example is represented by the financing of Transylvania highway with European fun ds, recently announ ced. The Minister Leonard Orban is yet to have influence over the other members of Government and cannot control their performance in the establishment of projects with European backing. We should have created ministry of European aff airs immediately after the i ntegration as it happened with the Poles who became champions in funs absorption, but we preferred offering our ministers small feuds which they administrated as they wanted according to their will, with the staff hired on preference-based criteria . Originally , our politicians and civil servants seemed to be more concerned by the fact that they had to report every cent spent. Pushed from behind, , they finally managed to invent a corrupt bureaucratic system which would turn the European funds into an illegal source of i ncomes. Lets take the example of the ANOFM president,, arrested under the accusation that he had claimed bribe of tens of hundreds euro in order to approve the European project cofinancing. Consequen tly, the E uropean funds offer us a huge chance for economic revival but only on condition we give up our old habits related to preference and corruption. Europe gives us nuts but doesnt crack them for us.
