What you need to do
For this assessment you are required to collect evidence that shows how you assisted with the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of a youth development project.
For assessment you need to:
1 collect evidence showing that you helped to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate a youth development project.
2 get a workplace observer to complete an observation form that verifies this evidence is current and correct and done by you.
3 write about the project and make a presentation to show your assessor to support your collection of evidence.
4 get your assessor to verify that you have completed these tasks with competence.
What is a project?
A project is a small-scale project carried out under the professional supervision of a project coordinator. For example, a project could be an issue-based workshop, a holiday programme, a youth week initiative, or another project identified by young people, the community or your organisation. Your project coordinator could be a senior youth worker or other authorised person.
Assisting with a project
Your presentation needs to show how you assisted with:
project planning.
development of the project.
delivery and evaluation of the project.
You will prepare a detailed presentation of your work, supported by a collection of evidence and observation of your work from an observer or supervisor to complete this assessment.
Principles
You must follow the principles of the Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa (YSDA) and the Code of Ethics for Youth Work in Aotearoa New Zealand. The principles of the YSDA include:
being shaped by the bigger picture.
helping youth make positive connections.
promoting a consistent strengths-based approach.
promoting quality relationships.
triggering youth participation.
quality information processes.
The Code of Ethics for Youth Work in Aotearoa New Zealand is at www.arataiohi.org.nz/code

Collection of evidence
Collect workplace evidence as you assist a project coordinator or authorised person with the planning and development of their project. This will be the evidence that demonstrates you are able to assist others with the successful delivery of a youth development project.
Collect and attach your evidence to this assessment to show that you helped to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate a youth development project.
The evidence checklist on pages 11-12 of this guide provides a list of workplace evidence that could be used for your presentation and this assessment.
You can use your collection of evidence to support your presentation. Read through the requirements for Tasks 1 to 3 so you know what you need to include in the evidence that you collect. Ensure the evidence you collect supports your presentation. Assemble your evidence in the order in which you refer to it in your presentation. Label each page of the evidence with your name.
Remember to follow your organisation’s guidelines for confidentiality.
Observation
Your collection of evidence needs to be seen by an appropriate observer or supervisor. Your observer needs to complete the observation form provided with this assessment. This will show that your evidence is authentic – correct, current and done by you.
Presentation
You need to write about the project to support your collection of evidence.
Then you will make a presentation to show your assessor how you have been involved in the project.
Your presentation may be done in any size, shape or form.
For example, it could be a low-key discussion, a slide show, or a written report. You can include posters, pamphlets, displays, diagrams, photos, graphics and images.
You may choose to use technology to give your presentation from a distance if this has been agreed with your assessor.
The assessor may ask you additional questions.
This assessment contains an evidence checklist for you to use. Give this checklist to your assessor before you begin your presentation.
You can also look at the presentation checklist to make sure your presentation covers all the relevant points. Your assessor will fill this in when you present to them.
