Alternator - turns mechanicalenergy into electrical energy &connected to flying wheel.

Camshaft - controls the openingand closing of the intake andexhaust valves.

Distributor - operates the ignitioncoil making it spark at exactly theright moment.

Piston - . It is the moving

component that is contained bya cylinder and is made gas-tightby piston rings .

Cranshaft To move piston.Valves - valves helps to pass

    exhaust gas to turbo charger.

Working: The fuel is burnt on the grateinside the furnace. The gases ofcombustion produced by burning offuel enter the combustion chamberthrough the flue tube and strike againstthe fire brick lining which directs themto pass through number of horizontaltubes, being surrounded by water.

After which the gases escape to the

    atmosphere through smoke box andchimney

The water surrounded over the fix typesget heated and converted into steam. This steams being collected into thecrown of boiler. This steam is suppliedby steam stop valve.

Fresh water is generallyproduced on board usingthe evaporation method. There are two things thatare available in plenty onship to produce freshwater Seawater andheat. Thus fresh water isproduced by evaporatingsea water using heat fromany of the heat source. The evaporated sea wateris then again cooled bythe sea water and thecycle repeats.

Generally the heat source available istaken from the main engine jacketwater. The temperature available fromthis jacket water is about 70 deg.centigrade. Thus in order to producefresh water at 70 degrees we need toreduce the atmospheric pressure, which is done by creating a vacuuminside the chamber where theevaporation is taking place.

Also, as a result of the vacuum thecooling of the evaporated sea waterwill also take place at lowertemperature. This cooled water iscollected and transferred to the tank.
