Module 1

Civil Airfield Ground Lighting Course An all-round comprehensive classroom and practical session AGL Training Course essential for any personnel involved in AGL systems and airside operations.

Course Outline This course explains the main principles of Aviation Ground Lighting. The course demonstrates how AGL has progressed and reacted to the changing needs of modern aircraft and airfields. This introductory level course explains the current design formats and layouts of AGL civil airport lighting systems and their unique colour and functions. Delegates are taught the correct maintenance procedures and principals of maintaining efficient AGL lighting systems this includes several practical sessions on how to set & site luminaires across several airfield locations. The course additionally provides delegates with a unique opportunity to work with and comprehend AGL Control Systems, AGL Contestant Current Regulators, Airfield Signage and AGL Primary & Secondary Circuits used across airfields; firstly in a classroom and then in monitored practical sessions.

The Civil Airfield Ground Lighting Course enforces to the delegates that Safety is of prime importance when working airside. The course explains both the application of the ‘Health and Safety at Work Act’ and the ‘Electricity at Work Act’ as applied to Aviation Ground Lighting as well as other safety related issues in relation to working ‘airside’. The course is structure is primarily based on the guidelines of CAA CAP 168; however additional relevant material is taken from ICAO Annex 14, FAA Advisory Circulars and other international approved AGL authorities where necessary.

This course has several night time sessions set for the delegates to complete to help monitor individual’s progress throughout the course. Additional 1-2-1 training help and support will be offered to any delegate requiring it.

Refresher Course - Civil Airfield Ground Lighting Providing personnel with latest updates and changes in statutory regulations essential for working with AGL Systems and Airside Operations.

Course Outline

This course is specifically designed for any AGL and airside personnel that have not attended the ATC module 1 course or similar within the last 3 years.

The training course updates delegates in the current design changes, formats and layouts of AGL civil airport lighting systems and regulatory changes in the last 3 years. Delegates are taught any new maintenance procedures and principals of maintaining efficient AGL lighting systems, including the introduction of LED luminaires. The course includes several practical refresher sessions on how to set & site luminaires across several airfield locations. The course additionally provides delegates with any new knowledge or delivers practical working sessions updates that are needed when working with AGL Control Systems, AGL Contestant Current Regulators, Airfield Signage and AGL Primary & Secondary Circuits used across airfields.

module 3 Airfield Ground Lighting Maintenance This intermediate level training course is targeted towards AGL personnel that are involved in planning maintenance schedules, maintaining AGL luminaires & Constant Current Regulators and scheduling and setting AGL performance targets for airfields.

Course Outline This Training Course has been designed to provide AGL engineering and management personnel with both practical and classroom sessions to help improve an airfields AGL programming maintenance efficiency and teach the practical setting, maintenance and sighting of airfield luminaires. The course includes the maintenance tasks required for approach, threshold, runway, taxiway inset and elevated luminaires; additionally, PAPI and Constant Current Regulars (CCR’s) is included for delegates. The training programme helps delegates to produce airfield maintenance schedules and targets and how to monitor these activities and continually improve performance.

This course has night time sessions set for the delegates to complete.

Civil Airfield Ground Lighting Design Course This intermediate level training course is targeted towards AGL professionals that are involved in Designing and the Sighting of AGL Luminaire patterns, Luminaire layouts, Signage and Series Power Circuits for modern airfields.

Course Outline

The course looks in depth and detail at the lighting patterns specified in both CAP 168 and ICAO for Approach Lighting Systems, Runway Lighting Systems and Taxiway Lighting Systems. Further training is provided to delegates on the specifications of AGL Mandatory Signage and designing individual Series Circuits of Luminaires including, being able to specify the size and type of Constant Current Regulators (CCR’s) most efficient the airfield circuits they are working on.

The course additionally and importantly examines the essential guidelines when the AGL designer is allowed to use their own judgment when designing AGL Lighting Systems whilst remaining within the regulatory guidance of the CAA, CAP 168 and ICAO requirements. Many times AGL Design Engineers and Maintenance personnel will encounter practical difficulties in AGL Design Layout particular to their airfield. The course will teach the delegates how to efficiently and legally overcome these issues.

The course requires delegates to have a working knowledge or general understanding Airfield Lighting Systems and Equipment. The completion of ATC Module 1 training course or similar would be advantageous although not essential. Please contact one of our Training Managers to discuss in greater detail the level entry any delegate attending this course is expected to be at.

This Civil AGL Design course has night time sessions set by the Training Managers for the delegates to complete.

Authorised Person (AP) Civil Airfield Training Course This course is specifically designed for personnel that are required, or progressing their career development to deliver Authorised Person (AP) duties on modern civil airfields. The course concentrates on the AP’s duties and responsibilities needed to achieve compliance with Safety Rules and Procedures and necessities of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Course Outline

ATC has over 35 years’ experience in installing AGL systems and working in live operational airside electrical works and installation projects. Every ATC project delivered required an Authorised Person (AP) to oversee duties to achieve compliance to the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and meet the requirements identified in BS EN 61821:2011. Refresher Course - Authorised Person (AP) This course is specifically designed for current Authorised Persons that have not attended an AP refresher Civil Airfield Training course in the last 3 years. The course concentrates on the changes in AP’s duties and responsibilities over the last 3 years needed to achieve compliance with Safety Rules and Procedures and necessities of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Course Outline

Delegates will be taught the changes and updates to the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and how to meet the new requirements identified in BS EN 61821:2011. Running alongside these critical updates delegates will receive refresher training on the key components and responsibilities of an Authorised Person on Civil Airfields. Competent Person (CP) - Civil Airfield This specialised civil airfield CP course has been designed by ATC around the essential Airport Safety Regulations & Procedures and the Electricity at Work Regulations Safe Working Procedures.

Course Outline

The course is designed specifically to train delegates to achieve Competent Person authority at Civil Airfields and those who need this certificate to carry out their airfield duties and operations. Delegates are introduced and trained in the principle components of LV distribution systems and equipment at Civil Airfields. The CP course is centred on the essential safe working procedures of the Electricity at Work Regulations and airport Safety Regulations and Procedures. Military Airfield Ground Lighting Course An all-round comprehensive classroom and practical session AGL Training Course essential for any personnel involved in Military AGL systems and airside operations.

Course Outline

This course explains the main principles of Aviation Ground Lighting. The course demonstrates how AGL has progressed and reacted to the changing needs of modern aircraft and airfields. This introductory level course explains the current design formats and layouts specifically for AGL military airfield lighting systems and their unique colour and functions. Delegates are taught the correct maintenance procedures and principals of maintaining efficient AGL lighting systems this includes several practical sessions on how to set & site luminaires across several airfield locations. The course additionally provides delegates with a unique opportunity to work with and comprehend MCS (control Systems), AGL Contestant Current Regulators, Airfield Signage and AGL Primary & Secondary Circuits used across airfields; firstly, in a classroom and then in monitored practical sessions.

The Military Airfield Ground Lighting Course enforces to the delegates that Safety is of prime importance when working airside. The course explains both the application of the ‘Health and Safety at Work Act’ and the ‘Electricity at Work Act’ as applied to Aviation Ground Lighting as well as other safety related issues in relation to working ‘airside’. Military - Modular Control System (MCS) Course

Defense Estate Approved mandatory training course for any personnel carrying out Servicing & Repairs on Military Modular Control Systems.

Course Outline

This course is operated solely by ATC under the control of Defense Estates. Any personnel ‘Working On’ or undertaking ‘Servicing & Repairs’ on UK Military MCS equipment must attend and satisfactory pass the ATC MCS Course Exam. This 5-day training course comprises of both classroom lecture sessions and practical fault finding on MCS equipment. This will cover basic MCS design, MCS operation and maintenance and provide a general aspect of AGL to give a background to the MCS.

There are evening exercises and an end test that all delegates must take. Delegates are expected to achieve a minimum overall pass mark of 75% in order to achieve the certification required to work on military Modular Control Systems.

Authorised Person (AP) Military Airfield Training Course This course is specifically designed for personnel that are required to deliver Authorised Person (AP) duties on military airfields. The course concentrates on the AP’s duties and responsibilities needed to achieve compliance with Safety Rules and Procedures and necessities of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Course Outline

ATC has over 35 years’ experience in installing AGL systems and working in live military operational airside electrical works and installation projects. Every ATC project delivered required an Authorised Person (AP) to oversee duties to achieve compliance to the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and meet the requirements identified in BS EN 61821:2011. Since 1995 we have been delivering and continually developing Authorised Person (AP) courses and delivering these across the world to AGL engineers, technicians and military and electrical contractors involved in airside electrical engineering. This course teaches delegates the knowledge required to carry out Authorised Person (AP) duties and responsibilities in order to control the operational or maintenance of installed AGL systems on military airfields.

Refresher Course - Authorised Person (AP) This course is specifically designed for current Military Authorised Persons that have not attended an AP refresher Military Airfield Training course in the last 2 years. The course concentrates on the changes in AP’s duties and responsibilities over the last 2 years needed to achieve compliance with Safety Rules and Procedures and necessities of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Course Outline

Delegates will be taught the changes and updates to the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and how to meet the new requirements identified in BS EN 61821:2011. Running alongside these critical updates delegates will receive refresher training on the key components and responsibilities of an Authorised Person on Military Airfields. Since 1995 ATC have been delivering and continually developing Authorised Person (AP) courses and delivering these across the world to AGL engineers, technicians and military and electrical contractors involved in airside electrical engineering. Competent Person (CP) - Military Airfield This specialised military airfield CP course has been designed by ATC around the essential Airport Safety Regulations & Procedures and the Electricity at Work Regulations Safe Working Procedures.

Course Outline

The course is designed specifically to train delegates to achieve Competent Person authority at Military Airfields and those who need this certificate to carry out their airfield duties and operations. Delegates are introduced and trained in the principle components of LV distribution systems and equipment at Military Airfields. The CP course is centred on the essential safe working procedures of the Electricity at Work Regulations and airport Safety Regulations and Procedures. The course meets the criteria contained in Appendix 7 of HTM 06-02.

Combined AGL Maintenance & CCR Training Course This 3 day course has been designed specifically for new and experienced AGLEngineers & Technicians that work on both airfield CCR’s and Luminaires. The course delivers both practical and classroom theory and can used as either an introduction level or refresher course.

Course Outline

This course covers the main principals of AGL Luminaires and Constant Current Regulator servicing and maintenance. Delegates are taught the main procedures and principals of maintaining efficient AGL systems from the CCR to the Luminaire. The course includes theory and practical sessions on both types of equipment alongside the teaching the critical elements of the ‘Health & Safety at work Act’ and ‘Electricity at Work Act’ when working airside on modern airfields.

AGL Inspection & Testing Course This course is designed for AGL Engineers & Technicians carrying out the Inspection & Testing of AGL Series Circuits and AGL Luminaires within the airfield.

Course Outline

To teach delegates the correct procedural and safe working practices when testing AGL series circuits for installation resistance, voltage drop and earth leakage. The course also instructs delegates on the correct photometric testing procedures of luminaires across the airfield ensuring they meet the required statuary output regulations.

Requirements of Electrical Installations – 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 Amendment 3 Course

This course is for Airfield Engineers & Technicians with responsibility for the Design, Installation or Maintenance of Electrical Systems related to 17th Edition Wiring Regulations training.

Course Outline

This 4-day training course has been designed for airfield electrical engineers and technicians with the responsibility for the design, installation or maintenance of airfield electrical systems related to the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations training. This is a benchmark qualification relating to the IEE Wiring Regulations.

Delegates are continually assessed by ATC training managers in both in written and practical exercises and will work on a range of relevant airfield equipment to support their working knowledge.

This course has several night time sessions set for the delegates to complete to help monitor individual’s progress throughout the course. Additional 1-2-1 training help and support will be offered to any delegate requiring it.

An online examination is undertaken on the final day.

Delegates are encouraged to bring any materials used by their own employer i.e. copies of risk assessments or management systems to evaluate how their materials fit in to the context of the training.

Mechanical to Electrical Conversion Course This course is designed to equip delegates predominantly from a mechanical engineering background with an understanding of LV electrical installations at modern airfields.

This is an electrical course designed for airfield personnel who have limited low voltage knowledge. This course teaches the delegates an increased awareness of electrical principals, practices and basic electrical legislative knowledge to carry out basic tasks safely within the electrical industry.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Training Course This Portable Appliance Testing training and assessment course covers the training and assessment for the EAL Portable Appliance Testing Certificate. It is designed for current PAT operatives or new entrants wishing to gain a formal qualification in Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing).

Course Outline

1 day Portable Appliance Testing training and assessment course is a formal qualification issued by EAL and administered / delivered by ATC. The qualification follows the industry recognised IET (IEE) Code of Practice published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
