Let’s talk business...

If 2017 was very much a pivotal year for Limerick, a turning point for the city and region then 2018 will be viewed as one in which it galloped further ahead.

Fast forward 12 months and Limerick’s economic progress has even quickened with the establishment of Limerick Twenty Thirty to take the city and county to another level - more than 2,600 jobs having been announced since the start of the year alone, bringing to 12,000 the number announced in five short years.

Limerick City and County Council has launched the planning process and also secured a total of €170m in funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) for another pivotal project, the Opera Site.

Economic Development in Limerick is being driven by Limerick City and County Council, in conjunction with the IDA and Enterprise Ireland, and in the small business sector by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO), Limerick.

In Limerick in 2017 the Local Enterprise Office through an investment of €825,000 by way of grant aid assisted in the creation of over 281 new jobs in the small business sector resulting in a net increase of 122 jobs in businesses supported by LEO bringing the total number of jobs supported by LEO over the past number of years to 1893.

There is no doubt that home-grown business ideas that display innovation and creativity will enable us to grow jobs, challenge for market share and demonstrate our capability to adapt in a challenging global economic climate. We have to depend on our entrepreneurs to provide innovative products, processes and knowledge based solutions that will enable us to develop our local economy and enhance job creation.

The development of Owner Managers of small businesses is seen as vital to the continued growth of the small business sector. In 2017 LEO Limerick invested €374,000 in training and development and other programmes to support the growth of business. This level of activity will continued in 2018 and the training and development programme has something for every small business to assist them in their development and growth.

The supports for small business in Limerick are in place through the Local Enterprise Office and there has never been a better time to get into business in Limerick. National Ploughing Championship

From the 18th to 20th September, the ‘Local Enterprise Village,’ managed and funded by the Local Enterprise Offices, including LEO Limerick will be home to 31 diverse start-ups and small businesses from all over the country. Many of the small businesses will be making their debut at the Championships, using the opportunity to launch new products and services to the 280,000 visitors

expected by the National Ploughing Association (NPA).
