The course will examine what depression is as well as some helpful strategies to support both yourself and your loved one. HOLDING ONTO HOPE This is a 2 day course designed to assist carers on their caring journey. Topics covered include navigating the public mental health system, stress management, grief and loss in relation to mental illness and ways to move forward. This is a perfect introductory course for those who may be new to the caring role, as well as being a great opportunity to meet other people who are in a similar role. 8 Stages of Healing This is a 10 week course to help carers move from ‘just coping’ to living better with the effects of mental illness, and bringing the focus back on their own life journey, healing the hurts of the past and moving forward. This 2 day workshop looks at the principles of Emoon Intelligence as they apply to the caring role, using techniques for self- awareness and social awareness, to improve relaonships, and increase opmism. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: Managing Our Emoons Beer This is a 1 day workshop examining the effects of substance misuse on mental illness. The course looks at how best to support someone with a dual diagnosis, focusing mainly on the Stages of Change model and harm minimizaon. SUBSTANCE USE & MENTAL ILLNESS

SMILES (Simplifying Mental Illness + Life Enhancement Skills)

Training focuses on strengths for carers, provides information and skills, and opportunities to share their experiences.

Carers can also receive emotional support, information and individual advocacy.

SAFETALK

Four hour session to

prepare anyone over the age of 15 to identify persons with thoughts of

suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources!

STRESS & RESILIENCE A 1 day session designed to assist carers to identify and manage

their stress, and develop effective coping strategies to increase resilience, ie. relaxation and problem solving.

Mental Health First Aid

Over 2 days carers explore the common mental illness in

Australia and their symptoms, and how to provide help until

appropriate professional treatment is given or the

crisis resolves.

This 5 week course provides carers with the opportunity to

acknowledge and address some of the issues relating to loss and grief in relation to caring someone with

a mental illness, explores grief reactions and uses the seasons as a way of understanding the cycle

of change.

Seasons for Growth

A 2 day course where carers learn to apply a suicide intervention model. It helps caregivers

recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide. It then explores how to connect with them in ways that understand and clarify that risk, increase their immediate safety and link

them with further help.

ASIST—Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

COMMUNICATION FOR CARERS

A 2 day course designed to improve communication skills and discusses the impact of mental illness on communication. Participants

will develop active listening and empathetic communication skills, and learn tools for appropriate boundary setting.
