Coordinator is the pivot around whom the system moves for an effective orientation and energizing
Coordinator implements and brings into reality the policy divisions of NIOS
Coordinator, as a liaison officer between his/her low level functionaries and the District Centre/Regional Centre
Coordinator of the Study Centre as an academic learner in the network
◦ Coordinator ought to empower himself in the mechanics of distance education and in his/her parent subject too
◦ He/she shall be able to effectively bring forth the activities of his/her centre in report forms
◦ He/she shall be able to provide academic guidance to his colleagues and trainees
Roles and Responsibilities of the coordinator- academic endeavour
◦ Must ensure effective transaction of teaching-
learning practices at his/her centre ◦ Should be able to, in participation of his
colleagues, point out difficulty level of self-instructional material and obsolete information, data and errata’s for further and future development in the material ◦ Counseling schedules must be drawn-up on time
and communicated to Resource Persons and trainees ◦ The coordinator must ensure that trainees have
maximum participation in teaching-learning activities and their problems and difficulties addressed to.
Roles and Responsibilities of Coordinators as Mentors and Supervisors ◦ The Coordinator has to bring in an
environment of better inter relation between institution and the study centre for academic transactions resource sharing
◦ He/she has to act as the nodal mentor to cash in better services by Resource Persons in the mechanics of teaching and learning
◦ Must be able to provide help and guidance to Resource Persons and trainees alike in the institutional and collaborative ambience
Roles and responsibilities of Coordinators as mentors and supervisors ◦ Administration has given place to management
and in the ODL system. It is more a managed system than an administrative one. Every successful manager makes an event management successful. It equally holds good for a distance teaching system as it does for other systems. And every management has a strong element of supervision.
◦ The Coordinator of the Study Centre must supervise all its activities academic, financial, managerial, liaising and collaborative and submit regular reports to the concerned unit.
Office Administration: She/he has to ensure the availability of the entire
required infrastructure and logistic requirement ◦ Facility of Infrastructure

Special care need to be taken to check the identification of each teacher trainee before PCP and Workshop with I-Card and photographs of trainees available in the checklist or in admission data
Office Administration:
Four number of Resource Persons who will involve in PCP(one for core subject and one for Language, one for EVS and one for Maths) and evaluate the assignments during PCP and submitted the award list to the Study Centre Coordinator.
Course-wise attendance register, assignment receipt register ,assignment grading register, rechecking of answer sheets fees register, cashbook register ,identify subject-wise Resource Person to handle the PCP
Office Administration: 3 Human Resource facility- one Assistant, one
MTS, four Resource Persons to handle the PCP/Workshop Based Activities
Maintenance of trainee check list of admission data and see that each trainee put his/her signature after submission of assignments.
Maintenance of upto date list of the trainees enrolled in the Study Centre
Identification of Supervisors and Mentors for each trainee and maintenance of the trainee wise list
Prepare award list on assignments , School Based Activities and Workshop Based Activities-I for each learner in the prescribed format.
Maintaining files, registers and record keeping ◦ The Coordinator must maintain
Salary register for Study centre staff Expenditure register for normal expenses of the
Study Centre like electricity, water, postal charges etc.
Remuneration for Resource Persons, evaluators, experts in workshop, Practice Teaching, Mentor, Supervisors and miscellaneous expenses etc.
The remuneration bills of Training Personnel must be verified by the centre coordinator
The photocopy of all types of bills need be kept in separate file for reference

Schedule of PCP sessions
◦ The PCP sessions need to be conducted from 10 AM to 5 PM in two spells(First spell of 15 days for courses 501,503 and 504 for first year and second spell of 15 days 506, 507, 508, 509 and 510 for second year
◦ The PCP schedule (Time-table) should be prepared well on time and sent to students and Resource Persons
◦ Issue the intimation letter to Resource Persons and Teacher Trainees for PCP under intimation to State Nodal Officer and NIOS/Regional Centre
Schedule of PCP sessions ◦ Supply of course SLM, Handbook on academic
support system and Programme Guide to the Resource Persons
◦ Ensure to the teacher trainees to attend the PCP with Programme Guide, SLM and assignments
◦ Ensure teacher trainee to bring reading writing materials (200 sheets of paper, pencil, pen and eraser etc. for their own use)
◦ During the programme, the classroom arrangement (blackboard, duster, chalk, audio/visual material etc.) must be taken care
◦ Ensure of individual percentage of attendance of teacher trainee after completion of the PCP so as to certify the same in their examination application form.
Distribution of work among Resource Persons
◦ Course-wise selection of competent Resource Persons should be assigned
◦ The Resource Persons may be sensitized to the methods of interaction and discussion in the session which are different from formal teaching
Monitoring PCP activities ◦ The coordinator should monitor the way PCP
activities going on in the sessions
◦ Time-to-time feedback on academic transaction aspects in distance education may be given to the Resource Persons
◦ The Resource Persons may be facilitated to audio/video material in the session as supplementary teaching tools
Assignment Evaluation and Record Keeping

Submission of assignments by trainees

Ensuring availability of assignments ◦ Ensure availability of 3 course-based assignments for each
course as per the schedule from each trainee. ◦ Ensure the submission of the assignments by the trainee
which must be written legibly and neatly. ◦ Must ensure that assignments are received by the Study
Centre on time from teacher trainees ◦ Download the Assignments of each course from website
and make available to students on demand ◦ Students may also be informed to download from NIOS
website, if available in it ◦ A turn-around time of submission of assignment by
trainees, their evaluation, received back at the Study Centre and return to the trainees concerned to be made so as to give academic feedback to students well on time
Submission of assignments by trainees ◦ Maintain the register of 3 assignments in serial order
◦ It should be ensured that positive/academic/constructive type margin comments are given by the evaluator on assignments
◦ Global comments on the covering sheet should also be provided by the evaluators
◦ Three sets of assignments with opinions should be sent by the evaluator to Study centre – the first copy for entry of awards, The second copy to accompany bills form the Study Centre for payment and the third copy for Study Centre records
◦ Issue the receipt of each assignment to the trainees with their signatures. The format of receipt of assignment has been given in Programme Guide
Evaluation of assignments
◦ Assignment must be obtained from each Trainee by the scheduled
date and get evaluated by the concerned Resource Person
◦ Decimal figures should not be used in assignment awards in numerical cases. Point five and above should be rounded off to the next higher value; below point 5 should be rounded off to the next lower value
◦ Assignment awards should be tallied with the ones given on the answer sheets before they are sent to Regional Centre for data entry, enrolment numbers and names should be neatly verified to ascertain accuracy
◦ Assignment award records and register for return of answer sheets should be neatly kept for future need and reference
Marks collected on assignments of each trainee need be upload on the website and a copy award list may be sent to the Nodal Agency/NIOS Regional Director as per the schedule in the prescribed award list for record.

Practice Teaching (PT)
School Based Activities (SBA) ◦ Trainee need be engaged in School Based Activities in
his/her workplace(school) ◦ Coordinate with Headmaster, Mentors and Supervisors ◦ School based activities managed by Mentors with the
Trainees and evaluated by Supervisors ◦ The three types of School Based Activities are – Case
study of a school child, Maintenance of school records and registers and contribution to school programme
o The SBA is of 4 credits of 100 marks and conducted in 1st year.
◦ After getting the marks from the Supervisors, the marks will be recorded in the Register and upload on the website and the same need to be submitted to the Nodal Agency/NIOS Regional Centre as per the schedule ◦ Collect all the records of SBA after evaluation from
Supervisors for record
Workshop Based Activities (WBA-I & II) ◦ One of the important activities of the Study Centre Coordinator
is to organize Workshop Based Activities for 12 days each year of the Programme
◦ Ensure the appointment of Resource Persons for Workshop. The service of Resource Persons handling PCP can be utilized
◦ Intimation letters for the Resource Persons and Teacher Trainees with a copy of workshop schedule need be sent well in advance ( please see Workshop-I/Workshop-II in appendices)
◦ The WBA is of 8 credits of 200 marks. 100 marks for each year and conducted in each year.
◦ Handbook on Academic Support system, Programme Guide, Practical Manuals are useful for the workshop
◦ Coordinators need to make a list of materials to be brought to the workshop by the Teacher Trainee (Chart Papers, Flannel Boards, Pencils, Eraser, Sketch pens, Crayons, Plain sheet Papers(500), Marker, James clips, Gum, Portfolio for evaluation, Carbon paper, Chalks, Duster etc.)
Workshop Based Activities (WBA-I & II) ◦ Multiple copies of the Rating Scales are to be
prepared (given in practical manuals to be utilized) by Resource Persons ◦ Rating on the activities of each trainees need be
done in every session as per the requirement by the Resource Persons ◦ Coordinator or his/her representative has to
observe trainee in each session. According to the performance of the Trainee individual rating need be consolidated at the end of the workshop. ◦ Activities are to be conducted as per the topics
giving in the Workshop schedule with internal flexibility of time. ◦ Special care need be taken for conducting
seminar
Workshop Based Activities (WBA-I & II) ◦ Coordinator must ensure demonstration of subject-
wise lessons in the workshop ◦ Every day at the close of the day feedback session
need be conducted. ◦ Monitoring the activities of the workshop and
evaluation thereof ◦ At the end of each session marks awarded to
each trainee need be collected from Resource Persons ◦ At the end of the workshop marks awarded to each
trainee need be sent to Regional Centre at the earliest ◦ At the end of workshop each trainee need be
provided with a certificate (Please see workshop-I/ Workshop-II in appendices)
Practice Teaching (PT) ◦ Coordinator must ensure commencement of the Practice
Teaching in the respective schools of the teacher concern ◦ Coordinator must identify Mentor and Supervisor for
each Teacher Trainee ◦ Organize orientation of supervisors and mentors on
practical activities ◦ Coordinate with Headmaster, Mentor and Supervisors ◦ The PT is of 8 credits of 200 marks and conducted in 2nd
year. There are total 40 practice lessons. 8 lessons out of 12 lessons will be supervised by the Supervisor and 20 lessons out of 28 lessons will be supervised by the Mentor ◦ See that the mentor in each subject of trainee will observe
at least five out of seven lessons and supervisor will observe two out of three lessons
Practice Teaching (PT) ◦ Monitoring Practice Teaching activities through Supervisors and
Mentors
◦ Collecting the marks of individuals Teacher Trainee on Practice Teaching from Supervisor
◦ Consolidation of marks on Practice Teaching for onward transfer to Regional Centre
◦ Collect all the records of Practice Teaching(PT) after evaluation from Supervisors and Mentors
◦ Keep the mobile number and full address of Supervisors, Mentors and Resource Persons for your use.
◦ Keep regular contact with Regional Centre for any kind of clarification
Note: Marks awarded in all the three activities: SBA, WBA and PT to be entered in the prescribed format and sent to Regional Centre expeditiously
Responsibilities of District Coordinator Get all the Resource Persons of the Study
Centre trained by the help of Master Trainers
Maintenance of list of Study Centres in your district along with mobile number, email address and full address of the trainees enrolled in each centre
Maintaining regular contact with each study centre coordinator for day to day activities
Monitoring the activities of Study Centre Coordinators, Workshops Activities, Supervisors and Mentors in the respective district.
