Yummz Food Pvt Ltd is a multi activity company where they have CA Store, Food Processing Unit and Banana
Ripening Chamber situated in Badkula in Nadia district (WB). The proprietor (Mr. S. N. Tiwari ) is from
Baranasi in UP and set up this unit in Badkula as there was a immediate need of a Ripening Chamber in the
region since the surrounding area has a concentration of Banana Growers. The ripening chamber has a capacity of
40 MT per day.
FEEDBACK FROM AGRICULTURE UNIVERSITY
Prof. Pranab Hajra, Faculty of Horticulture, BCKV. Kalyani, Nadia district, WB expressed enthusiasm over
conducting the said training program. The faculty, staff and participants were very enthusiastic about the
program.
Prof. Pranab Hajra, Faculty of Horticulture, BCKV. Kalyani, Nadia district, WB Introduced the Organizers to
the participants and explained the importance of the naturally ripened fruits. He inspired the participants to
follow the details of the course and encourage them to actively interact to understand the course better. He had
a positive outlook towards organizing skill development courses and was of the view that such trainings are
necessary for the youth of the nation.
He opined that the youth who undergo this training program would be able to handle the ripening chambers in
a more scientific and systematic way. Moreover they themselves can successfully become potential
entrepreneurs by talking up ripening chambers as agriculture allied activity.
The staff and students were very encouraged to know about the financial assistance and the impetus available
from the Government to build the interest in the Agriculture sector of the country. They applauded the efforts
of NCCD for organizing such trainings all across the country.
FEEDBACK FROM TRAINEES
The participants expressed happiness about the training program and found it very useful. They felt that the
information given by experts and faculty was a great learning experience.
They were very happy to visit M/s. Yummz Food Pvt Ltd. as they got the chance to see the ripening process live.
and get an hands on experience. It was a great learning experience for them when the staff of M/s. Yummz Food
Pvt Ltd. explained to them the entire procedures followed at M/s. Yummz Food Pvt Ltd. The officials showed
them around the whole unit of M/s. Yummz Food Pvt Ltd. showing them the Sorting, grading lines, machinery
and controls, ripening chambers. The trainees found that the entire information shared very informative and
useful.
The training program is a practical on the job experience and helpful in understanding the operations of ripening
chamber and how the Government is actively involved in support of the cause. The efforts made by NCCD in
organizing the program at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwa Vidyalya, Kalyani, Nadia, WB, were appreciated by
all. Prof. Pranab Hajra, was also thankful for the efforts put in for smooth conduct of the program

They appreciated the efforts of the government and NCCD.
The faculty was of the view that the general public should be educated and made aware of the harmful
effects of carbide and encourage people to use natural ripening.
They thanked Yummz Foods Pvt. Ltd. for opening their doors to the participants, which was an excellent
learning experience for the participants as well as the faculty.
They wanted the training to have a mention about the proven ways of identifying carbide ripened fruits.
They opined that such trainings should be more frequent as the need and aptitude of the general public is
positive towards fruit ripening

Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Agriculture Sector with focus on Fruit Ripening.
As per the agenda of the honorable Prime Minister, Agriculture is the driving force of the Indian economy.
Government is laying special emphasis on the development of Agriculture and Horticulture sector and
encouraging the citizens to come up with projects and business to support this sector. Ministry of Agriculture,
Govt. of India has introduced a two-day training programme on “Capacity Building in Fruit ripening”. This
training programme offered by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India is being carried out by National Centre for
cold chain development (NCCD) in the Faculty of Horticulture, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya on 17-18
August, 2015.
The training programme was inaugurated by Prof. Asit Kumar Chakravarty, Honourable Vice-Chancellor,
BCKV. Welcome address was delivered by Prof. Pranab Hazra, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture, BCKV. Training
was imparted through different lectures and visuals delivered by Shri Dipankar Sur, Project Head, ICE, Prof. R.
S. Dhua, Prof. Md. Abu Hasan and Prof. Debabrata Basu of BCKV and others.
The training was offered to 35 potential banana growers and traders selected by Nadia Krishi Vigyan Kendra,
Gayeshpur. The trainees and entrepreneurs have been educated on the scientific procedures and best practices of
fruit ripening, hazard of calcium carbide as the ripening agent and financial viability of setting up the fruit
ripening chamber and MIDH guidelines and financial assistance. On 18th

PREPARATION FOR THE SESSIONS:
After receiving the approvals for conducting trainings from National Centre for Cold Chain Development
(NCCD), we contacted Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalya, Nadia Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Gayeshpur and
owners of fruit ripening chamber, the response was overwhelming.
The existing ripening units in Nadia were enthusiastic to open their doors for the field visit and were also happy
to share their entrepreneurial journey with the trainees. Mr. Manoj Kumar, Manager of the ripening units Co-
ordinate effectively with the organizers to ensure participation by all concerned in the industry.
The related companies, agriculture universities and bank representatives were contacted for the lectures to be
given during the training. They were extremely enthusiastic and to be part of the training.
AGENDA: GENERATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND ENTERPRENURIAL
OPPORTUNITIES; AWARENESS ABOUT HARMFUL EFFECTS OF
CARBIDE
The objective of the program was to:
Train Human resources in banana ripening technology
Educate the trainees about the harmful effects of Carbide ripened fruits
Educate the trainees in real time conditions to give them hands o experience
Promotion of standards, scientific procedures and best practices in banana ripening.
Assist in providing employment opportunities to the trained candidates through our existing network of
promoters of banana ripening chambers.
Educate the potential entrepreneurs about
o The financial viability of setting up a Banana ripening chamber.
o The Technical standards on Banana Ripening established by Ministry of Agriculture.
o New MIDH guidelines and financial assistance available
o Financial assistance available from Indian Banks
Provide feedback concerning future training needs, and participate in the design of annual training
activities.
The prospective employers i.e.: ripening chamber owners allowed practical trainings in their facility and actively
participated with the trainees, and clears the doubts of trainees during the practical session. The participants were
banana growers and agricultural graduates who were made aware about the benefits of entering the field of
agriculture.
They have been registered in our database and will be in touch for the preparation of DPRs etc.
Actual employment generated will be monitored and reported to the NCCD
