What made you decide to choose your major?

I thought I would be a biologist when I was in high school. But, my parents persuaded me to pursue finance. During my first year at Radford University, I was introduced to Financial Accounting and the class changed my perspective. Financial accounting is not just number crunching habit but an art of logic and analytic skill. The more I learn finance and accounting, the more I undertand the relationship between them.

What advice would you give to others to help them succeed? "Proactive" and "passionate" would be my two words to share. We are living in a competitive and instantaneous world. Therefore, if we do not go ahead of the popular trend, we will be left behind. Pro-activeness is our competitive edge. Locating our passion and nourishing it overtime definitely gives us a sense of responsibility, and motivates us to achieve our goals.

What are your career goals? I want to work in the field of business valuation. The reason why I chose business valuation is the ability to see the realistic interaction of finance and accounting, which closely relates to what I am studying now.

How has your undergraduate experience prepared you to achieve these goals?

With the invaluable orientation and advice from my two academic advisors, Dr. Beach and Dr. Chatham, I am very satisfied with the course selections that I am pursuing because I can connect the concepts I learn in accounting to its practical use in finance. The availability of technology, such as the trading room, the Bloomberg terminal, and other financial analytic tools, allows me to access the real world  with experience.
