Using all 17 floors above ground and 2 floors below ground of building 11 which used to belong to Tokyo Denki University, 16 genres including contemporary art and design, and approximately 200 creators will gather together in Kanda. TRANS ARTS TOKYO is a prologue to the creation of a "Kanda Community Art Centre" in the city of Kanda. Going beyond genre, community, generation, and awareness, a wide variety of people will come together in the continual development of an art project which shares memories and expectations for the future. Transcending all manner of things to take a visible form; This is surely the "community art" we are aiming for. Tokyo Denki University which had been based in this area for around 100 years moved to Kitasenju in April 2012. This area is now awaiting a new redevelopment plan, and demolition work on the university build- ings have already begun. However, here where a great number of people gathered to study there remains the memory of its existence within the area of Kanda. In this period when the building still stands, an art project which shares the memories of the past and the hopes for the future will be held. The project will become the foundations for the establishment of a new art center for the community which will take shape in this area, and will continue to be developed. Tokyo University of the Arts (Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Oil Painting) is the organizer who established the Kanda Community Art Centre design committee (chairman: Ichiro Sato/Head of the department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, vice-chairman: Kubo Kinshi/ vice director of NPO Kanda Gakkai) in cooperation with business people active in the Kanda area. The running of the project will be managed by Command N (6-11-14 Sotokanda Chiyoda-Ku Tokyo) led by 3331 Arts Chiyoda (6-11-14 Sotokanda Chiyoda-Ku Tokyo) director Masato Nakamura (associate professor, the department of Painting, faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts).
