Transferring to High School in 2014

Applications

• All applications should be made to the borough in which you live. For most people, this will be Ealing. https://www.eadmissions.org.uk

• It is better to apply online rather than on paper.

• The closing date for online applications is 31st October. Paper applications must be in by 25th October.

Applications

• Choose six different schools that you would be happy for your child to attend and put them in your preferred order on the application form. You can choose schools in Ealing or outside the borough.

• It is important to choose as many schools as possible: if you only choose one or two and you are not successful in your application, you may be offered a school that you are not happy with.

Choosing a school

• Secondary schools vary greatly and what is suitable for one child will not be suitable for another.

• Look to see whether the schools have specialism e.g arts, sciences that might suit your child better.

• Attend the schools’ open evenings where you can tour the facilities and listen to the headteacher’s talk to parents where you can ask questions.

Choosing a school

• If you cannot go to all the schools’ open evenings, visit their websites for information to help you decide whether you would be happy for your son or daughter to attend there. Don’t just read the Ofsted report.

• Talk to us about your proposed choice of high school if you would like some further help.

Choosing a school

• Be realistic. Look carefully at the number of places a school has available as well as their admission criteria and consider how far you meet this criteria.

• Get advice from Ealing through their drop-in sessions.

Information

• www.ealing.gov.uk/education• Admissions service 020 8825 5522• Admission advice sessions at Perceval House,

room MO21 on 9th, 10th and 11th October between 10 and 4pm.

• Admissions fair 16th October 2.30-6.30 pm at Ealing Town Hall.

Expectations in Year 6

SATs week

Week beginning 11th May 2015.

• 11th Reading test.• 12th Grammar, punctuation and spelling test.• 13th Maths paper 1 and mental maths test.• 14th Maths paper 2. Level 6 maths test.• No separate writing or science test.

What do levels mean?

• Level 4 is the minimum level expected.• Level 5 is above expectations.• Some children may achieve Level 6.• Level 3 is below the level expected and

children may struggle at high school if they do not get Level 4s.

What do we expect?

• We expect all children to work hard and complete any homework tasks.

• We expect good attendance and punctuality.• We expect children to have positive attitudes

to school.• We expect parents to support us in

encouraging children to attend any after school booster classes etc.

What we will do

• Give your child every chance to succeed.• Provide extra targeted support in class and

through booster lessons where necessary.• Report to you at the end of the school year

your child’s results, both in the tests and the teacher’s assessment.

• Pass on our records to your child’s high school.
