OPENING OUR DOORS!We had two Open House events this past week and both were a great success, current families were able to see what their students have been working on thus far. As well as, prospective families could meet with teach-ers and staff, get a first-hand look inside classrooms and learn more about our programs. And, don’t forget to spread the word about MCS with your friends, so that we can continue to grow our thriving community!

It was a time of reflection as the Elementary and Junior High Chapels took a look back in time on the work and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and other notable figures in honor of Black History Month. The 6th grade stu-dents, led by Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Downey and Mrs. Nelson, gave a moving performance of ‘I Have a Dream’, inspiring us all to love deeper just as God has bestowed His love on us. A select few students also performed, ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ for parents and students. At the end, 6th grade students proudly stood next to their display boards which highlighted an individual of their choice. The boards told stories about the lives of these import-ant members of our history.
This is a tradition that has spanned over 18 years, and has featured an innumerable number of MCS students. As stated by our Director of Biblical Studies and Discipleship, Mr. Jackson, the hope and vison behind this Chapel is always to remember the stories and testimonies of those who have “relied on their faith in Christ Jesus to endure various forms of oppression.” We encourage you to ask your student about what they learned at Chapel!

MARANATHA CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS
The HS Choir had the opportunity to be a blessing in our local community this past week. They performed at the Boulder Creek Nursing Home in Poway, sharing in a selection of songs. Students also had the opportunity to visit with the residents and bless them with a few sweet gifts. It truly was a heart-warming event for all involved!

DO I SEE A SHADOW? Our budding artists in the junior high art elective class took their hand to sketching objects last week with Mrs. Rhoads. The added spotlight created shadows and dimension for the students, giving them depth and percep-tion practice. As always, we are impressed at the talents of our students!

Did you know February is Community Helper Month? Our preschoolers were visited by a very import-ant helper who is on the ‘big’ campus, MCS’ very own Nurse Sager.
Nurse Sager took time to teach our preschoolers how to wash their hands by using proper handwashing techniques. And, she did this through having our students learn a very fun song. We are sure to keep those germs away this season!

Our very own Noah Rupp won a CIF title in wrestling! He led such an impressive match, where no one scored on him in the entire tournament, he was named ‘outstanding heavyweight’. Noah will move onto Masters in San Marcos this weekend and we can’t wait to see how far he goes. Click on the video below to view season highlights.

It was a big week in Athletics for MCS, we had multiple teams advance to the playoffs and even a CIF win as well! Read below for the highlights! • Girls Varsity Soccer clinched their league last Friday and took on Brawley in the first playoff game this past Wednesday. It is the 4th straight league win for the team, and even though they didn’t advance to the next round of playoffs, we are extremely proud of their hard work as a team! • Our Boys Varsity Soccer team also made it to the playoffs as well, they take on El Capitan today at 3:30pm at Del Lago Academy in Escondido. If you can, head out and catch them in action! • Girls Basketball advanced to playoffs with their first game this past Tuesday against Chula Vista. While they did not advance to the next round, we want to congratulate them on finishing their season well!

HOPE IN THE STREETS — Our next Hope in the Streets event will be an outreach to families in need in Escondido on Saturday, February 16, 2019. The event will be held at Palmilla Apartments located at 776 E. Mission Avenue, Escondido, CA, 92025. We could use help on Friday, February 15, 2019, 5pm – 7pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will be sorting clothing and packing groceries in preparation for the outreach.
40 DAY FAST — Pastor Ray is encouraging the family at Maranatha to commit to praying and fasting for 40 days beginning in March. We will be focusing on Pastor Ray’s word for the year, UNITY. That we would be one with Jesus, as Jesus is one with the Father, that we as the Body of Christ would be one with each other.
