Transit Essentials
Transfer Based NetworkHalifax’s network provides many riders with
direct routes downtown, but routes have low
frequencies and overlap. A transfer based
network has fewer routes running at high
frequencies. High frequencies and good
transfer points make transferring simple.

A transfer based network has a few high
frequency routes. High frequencies and
good transfer points make it easy to
change lines. In this Halifax example
(left), transfer points are shown with
black circles. Riders from the Navy Line
could transfer to the Orange Line to
reach Downtown Halifax, or the Blue
Line for universities and hospitals.
