Quanta Commitment CoinDEAN DENNOCENZOIBEW Local Union 876 member and MJE Foreman, Dean Dennocenzo, has been awarded a Quanta Commitment Coin for his dedication to safety. Dean was traveling on M-69 near Felch, Michigan, when he came upon someone who had collapsed alongside the road. He and another motorist stopped, called 911, and flagged down the driver of a passing vehicle who Dean recognized as an EMT. The EMT stopped, completed an evaluation, and determined the person was in cardiac arrest. The EMT began CPR while Dean grabbed the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) out of his MJE work vehicle to assist. The AED recommended administering six shocks after which the person regained sinus rhythm. When the ambulance arrived, the person was transported to a nearby hospital and is doing well today. Dean’s quick response and resourcefulness is a testament to him and his commitment to safety.

LEE MARIETTAIBEW Local Union 876 member and MJE Journeyman Lineman, Lee Marietta, has been awarded a Quanta Commitment Coin for his commitment to safety. While performing a Zonar inspection on a transmission line right-of-way, Lee was interrupted by an elderly man stating his wife was drowning in a nearby pond. Lee assessed the situation, called 911, and handed the phone to the gentlemen instructing him to stay on the line. He then entered the water and pulled the woman to safety. Fortunately CPR was not necessary and Lee remained with the couple as calming figure until EMS arrived. Lee’s immediate response and assistance is a testament to him and his commitment to safety.

Operations Talent On-Boarding ProgramMJE has developed a comprehensive on-boarding program. This program targets newly hired personnel and directs them through a clearly outlined career and developmental plan. The program is designed to rotate the employees through various positions in the company including project controls, estimating, purchasing, field engineering, and safety. In doing this, it supplies the employees with the necessary training, skills, on-the-job knowledge, experience, and professional growth. At the end of the rotation schedule the participants will have a diverse background of experience and a well-rounded view of our industry. MJE currently has four employees involved in the on-boarding program. Tony Gartland, one of the participants, feels the program has been a great experience. He has found value in meeting a variety of people across the company; he has learned a great deal from each one of them. Josh McCole, another participant, had similar thoughts in that the program has connected him to the company’s office support systems while being hands on in the field. Josh is thankful to have made exceptionally supportive employee connections throughout his learning process. Both Tony and Josh are looking forward to what the future holds for them as the program continues. MJE is excited about the on-boarding program and its benefit to the current and future employees. Pictured below are the current participants involved in the program.

Internship OpportunitiesMJE has developed an internship program. This summer eleven young adults joined MJE’s staff and interned in areas including engineering, accounting, business, fleet and equipment, and information technology. By offering internships MJE is able to reach out to young talent and familiarize them with our culture, tools, and processes in hopes of their future return. The program is an excellent way to cultivate, develop, and recruit driven students that will become the industry’s future workforce.

Jeff Gregory, now starting his senior year at Michigan Technological University for Engineering and Business Management, interned with MJE Drilling. Jeff said,

“Upon completion of this internship it has solidified my desire to become a project manager. I enjoy seeing the work that is being performed benefit different communities. I enjoy the construction and electrical industry and believe it would be a good fit for me.”

We thoroughly believe in this process and we wish all of our interns well in their future careers.

Quanta AED Program Quanta Services is a team of entities operating with the efficiencies of one powerful company. With over 25,000 employees they believe their people are their greatest asset. Quanta values each life and will go to great lengths to protect the lives of every member of the Quanta family as well as the general public.

Years ago one of Quanta’s operating units had an event occur where a life was saved using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Quanta took notice and realized this device could save more lives if every operating unit had AEDs available. As a result Quanta began purchasing AEDs in 2011. To date, over $8,000,000 has been spent implementing an AED program throughout their operating units across the nation. Over 5,500 units have been purchased, saving 16 lives thus far; five of which were employees saving someone from the general public. Quanta has experienced benefits that far outweigh the program’s cost because of the supreme value of a person’s life.

Quanta’s Board of Directors and Executive Management Team will continue to lead the way in this endeavor and Quanta Services will continue to purchase additional Physio Control LIFEPAK CR Plus AED units for all of their operating units.
