Fall in love with our travel offerings at Community Education Travel’s (CET) Travel Talks! scheduled for Thursday, February 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. The session will be held at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. Attendees should enter Door 2 at the front of the building by the flagpole (park in Lots A or B). There will be several breakout sessions providing in-depth information on several CET destinations (see below). CET staff, volunteers and travel partners will be on hand to answer questions on all upcoming tours, day trips and motorcoach tours, as well as supply informational brochures. See Luxor’s impressive Temples of Karnak. Uncover countless ancient treasures including the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El Bahari, and the Colossi of Memnon. Sail to the lush oasis of Kitchener Island aboard a felucca (wooden sail boat). Includes a tour to Abu Simbel and an evening sound and light show of the pyramids. Portugal in Depth Oct. 2-13, 2019See all of Portugal at a relaxed pace, thanks to well-planned, two-night stopovers in Lisbon, Oporto and the Algarve, and overnights in Tomar, Viseu and Evora. You will visit must-see attractions including the Ossuary Chapel in Evora, its walls covered with thousands of human bones and skulls; the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Fátima, a pilgrimage site where apparitions of the Virgin Mary were reported by three local children in 1917; the Church of São Francisco in Oporto, the city’s most important gothic monument originating from the 14th century; and Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon. Built in the 16th century and now regarded as Lisbon’s most important landmark, it was traditional for Portuguese seafarers to pray in the chapel before their departure to the unknown. Enjoy an olive oil tasting in Belmonte, a wine tasting at a Port wine cellar in Oporto and Portuguese tapas specialties in the countryside.
