Hunter Hayes (Feat. Jason Mraz) ‘Everybody’s Got Somebody But me’

Concept The concept behind my video is two teenager walking through the town, getting slowly more and more angry by the sight of happy couples around him, and eventually just walking off in frustration.

I am going to take the lyrics very literally, and try to incorporate some humour

into it. The protagonist is going to go to a park and work his way to different places,

only to be driven out by happy couples.

Alternatively, the protagonist could just be in a park, and lip sync it there,

where there are multiple shots of him doing various things, such as on the swings or the roundabout.

Performance and Narrative The song is about a man not liking the fact that his girlfriend left him. So I plan on having my actor be acting all happy, only to show how sad he is when it

comes to the bridge of the song. This means the video will have to be fun, for the slowdown to work effectively.

However, as soon as the song picks back up, it will be equally as effective, and hopefully comedic.

The performance is going to be done in a local park, and possibly other local

areas such as;

A local diner

The streets around the town

The movie theatre

The Museum

Lighting The lighting for my music video is going to be natural, and open. This is because my video has a fun vibe, and having low, dark lighting would be

completely the opposite of what I want the audience to feel.

To have dark, intense lighting would suggest that the protagonist is feeling dark and brooding; as the lyrics would suggest. But the music is light and fun, which must be reflected in the lighting.

The fact that the protagonist is going to be lip-syncing in a park is a refection

on the bright, fun feel of the song.

Costume

The protagonist’s clothing is going to be simple, yet warm. This is because he is going to be in an open space, and it is Autumn. However, he has to be able

to move easily in it, and be able to dance. However, if we have to film over two days, then there will be the small

problem of having the actor wear the same clothes throughout the entire shoot. This may be a problem because the actor will have to be informed prior

to either change into clothes for the shoot, or bring the clothes used for the shoot for the second day.

Camera & Editing The camera work is going to be very simple. I’m going to set up the camera

on a tripod in the park, and have the actor lip sync each verse and chorus individually, not moving the camera. This makes it seem like it’s consistent. However, I’m going to have different shots where the actor is on various

things in the park, such as the swings, and a bench, before we move to the other possible locations.

Editing, however, is going to be medium paced; as it is a relatively fast-paced song. But it also has to be fun, to fit with the actual music. So rather than

having a lot of different shots and random, unneeded shots. I am going to use FinalCut Pro to make sure I sync the music with the video.
