11 de Agosto 2014 Saludos, En los últimos años, el cine latinoamericano ha crecido en calidad, y nos ha demostrado la importancia que tiene el séptimo arte como una herramienta fundamental para mostrarnos las diferentes realidades que se viven a lo largo de nuestro continente, pero sobre todo, ha servido para sensibilizarnos y comprender la importancia de estrechar lazos entre nosotros. Es por ello, que me complace ver cómo el Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara en Los Ángeles, está por inaugurar su cuarta edición, mostrando una vez más el crisol de raíces que cohabitan en nuestra ciudad y recuperando las diferentes expresiones artísticas que existen en Los Ángeles, sin duda, una de las ciudades más interesantes del planeta. La Universidad de Guadalajara, en conjunto con Fundación Universidad de Guadalajara, EUA, nos ha apoyado en demostrar el interés que tiene nuestra ciudad en impulsar las distintas expresiones artísticas que enriquecen e identifican a la ciudad de Los Ángeles. ¡Nuestra ciudad está de fiesta, y abrimos los brazos para dar la bienvenida a otra edición de este festival en Los Ángeles! Con la firme intención de incrementar el acceso al cine mexicano e iberoamericano y aumentar su visibilidad facilitando el intercambio de ideas a través de la narración de historias y de temas socialmente relevantes, Fundación Universidad de Guadalajara en EUA, se complace en anunciar la cuarta edición del FICG in LA, en donde cineastas, actores, productores y público en general se darán cita para disfrutar, y promover nuestra diversidad cultural mediante el diálogo y la apreciación de películas de estreno y de una selección de lo mejor del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara.
El interés por las películas iberoamericanas y mexicanas ha venido avanzando en la meca del cine internacional, tal como lo demostró nuestra edición pasada al convocar a más de dos mil asistentes. Sin duda, la cuarta edición del FICG in LA demostrará nuevamente el aporte cultural que se realiza en Estados Unidos, al generar una mayor demanda de películas, y poner de relieve la importancia del séptimo arte para plantear y discutir temáticas significativas concernientes a nuestra sociedad.
Este año se suman al FICG in LA las secciones de DocuLab y Guadalajara Construye, con la firme intención de incrementar la participación de nuevos documentalistas e interesados en la industria y el mercado del cine latino y a las que les vaticinamos un rotundo éxito.

With a strong commitment to facilitate access to the Mexican and Ibero American cinema and increase its exposure through the exchange of ideas expressed in narrative storytelling about subjects with social relevance, it is a great pleasure for the University of Guadalajara Foundation in the USA to announce the fourth year of the FICG in LA were filmmakers, talent, producers and the audience will meet to enjoy and promote our cultural diversity through dialog and the appreciation of new films of one of the best selections of movies from The Guadalajara International Film Festival
The interest in Mexican and Ibero American films has grown in the “Mecca” of the International Cinema. Last year we had more than 2000 attendee’s, therefore, without a doubt this fourth edition of the FICG in LA will show once more the cultural contribution we are experiencing in the USA by generating a higher demand for movies utilizing “The Seventh Art” to present and talk about very significant issues of our society.
This year’s edition of FICG in LA will include the Doculab and Guadalajara Construye sections with the strong intention of increasing the participation of new documentary filmmakers and individuals involved in the movie industry and in the Latino movie market. We already perceive that it is going to be a total success.

El Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara (FICG),
se ha planteado como principal misión el impulsar el cine
mexicano e iberoamericano a nivel internacional.
The goal of the Guadalajara International Film Festival
(FICG) is to promote Mexican, Ibero-American and Latin
American movies at an international level.
Constantemente estamos a la búsqueda de crear espacios para que los cineastas iberoamericanos puedan promocionar sus películas y compartir experiencias con realizadores de todas latitudes. Es en ese contexto como surgió FICG in LA. Al llegar a su cuarta edición vemos que ya se ha convertido en una de las puertas de ingreso más importantes para la cinematografía latina desde a los Estados Unidos.
Este año nos complace anunciar las secciones de Guadalajara Construye en Los Ángeles 1 y DocuLab.1 Los Ángeles, con lo que buscamos que largometrajes de ficción y documentales de realizadores latinos e iberoamericanos radicados en Estados Unidos y Canadá; así como producciones de estos países, pero de contenido latino en etapa de postproducción puedan llegar a su conclusión. Es por ello que FICG in LA, crece a cuatro días con la finalidad de incluir las primeras ediciones en Los Angeles del DocuLab y Guadalajara Construye.
Se refuerza también el hecho de que FICG y FICG in LA son iniciativas vinculantes, pues el proyecto que resulte ganador calificará de manera automática para ser considerado para Guadalajara Construye 9 o para la Competencia Iberoamericana de Documental en la 30 edición del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara.
El crecimiento que ha tenido FICG in LA este año, fue posible gracias a la decidida aportación de recursos por parte del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA) y el apoyo y asesoría del Consulado de México en Los Angeles. Con su participación lograremos que este Festival se convierta, para orgullo de todos, en un referente importante de la difusión de nuestra cultura en los Estados Unidos.

We are constantly finding ways for Ibero-American filmmakers to promote their films and share their experiences with moviemakers from all over the world. Now that we have reached our fourth year, we realized that we have become one of the leading platforms for Latino cinematography to enter the United States market.
This year we are pleased to present for the first time two work-in-progress competitions: Guadalajara Construye in Los Angeles and DocuLab Los Angeles for filmmakers seeking postproduction funds. The competition was open to fiction and documentary projects that are currently in postproduction, made by either Latino or Ibero-American directors living in North America (USA or Canada), or by American and Canadian directors who have a film with Latino or Latin American content
We would like to highlight the fact that because FICG in LA is an extension of FICG the winning projects in each competition will automatically qualify to be considered for Guadalajara Construye 9 or DocuLab.7 Guadalajara, or for the Ibero-American Competitions of the next edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG30) – March 6 - 15, 2015.
The growth experienced by FICG in LA could have never been possible without the support and dedication of institutions, such as Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA) and the constant support of the Consulado General de Mexico in Los Angeles, with whose participation we will transform this Festival into a pivotal event in the promotion of our culture in the USA.

I am very proud this year to present the best of Mexican
and Ibero-American cinema, here, in Los Angeles, and
even more so, to bring two new artistic programs to our
festival that support and nourish emerging filmmakers
– Guadalajara Construye 1 in Los Angeles and
DocuLab.1 Los Angeles. .
From the very beginning, it has been FICG in LA’s mission to establish a launching pad for filmmakers by providing them with resources and tools, and creating a community of supporters through sponsors who champion filmmakers’ success over time. We are now seeing the very beginning of this mission’s fulfillment through our work-in-progress competitions.
FICG in LA is also a place to promote the regional cultural diversity of Mexico and Latin America. Film is such a compelling medium, as it gives us a window into other worlds that are, at times, unfamiliar, but resonate nonetheless. In order for stories to continue to be relevant to audiences, they must challenge the notion that filmmakers are not contained within a fixed social and cultural milieu. Filmmakers are collaborative by nature, as well as by necessity – and many of the collaborations this year have taken place across borders. This is reflected in many of the films we are showcasing this year, in which collaborations range from Mexico-Canada, Argentina–US, and Chile-US. We are seeing both industries and audiences overlap in ways that signal a long-term change.
Lastly, I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous support we’ve received this year from our sponsor community, and from nonprofit organizations that believe in our cause. Through these relationships, we are developing sustainable programs that will continue to support emerging filmmakers and the creation of multicultural content for years to come.

Desde el principio, la misión de FICG en LA ha sido establecer una plataforma de lanzamiento para cineastas, proporcionándoles recursos y herramientas para crear una comunidad de seguidores a través de patrocinadores que defienden el éxito de los realizadores. Ahora estamos viendo el principio del cumplimiento de esta misión a través de nuestras competiciones de películas en post-producción.
FICG in LA es también un lugar para la promoción de la diversidad cultural y regional de México y América Latina. El cine es un medio muy convincente, ya que nos da una ventana a otros mundos que son, a veces, poco familiares, pero que resuenan profundamente en cada uno de nosotros.
Con el fin de que las historias sigan siendo relevantes para el público, hay que modificar la idea de que los cineastas están limitados a un medio social y cultural determinado. Los cineastas son colaborativos por naturaleza, así como por necesidad – Esto se refleja en muchas de las películas que presentamos este año, en el que las colaboraciones van desde México-Canadá, Argentina y Estados Unidos, y Chile-Estados Unidos. Estamos viendo que las industrias y el público se entremezclan y veremos muchos cambios a largo plazo.
Por último, quiero agradecer el enorme apoyo que hemos recibido este año de nuestra comunidad de patrocinadores, y una extensa comunidad de organizaciones sin fines de lucro que creen en nuestra causa. A través de estas relaciones, estamos desarrollando programas sustentables que continuarán apoyando a los cineastas emergentes y la creación de contenido multicultural en los años venideros.

El árbol de la vida mexicano es una pieza escultórica de barro creada
por artesanos nativos del municipio de Metepec, Estado de México.
En sus orígenes, estas esculturas ilustraban a través de sus imágenes
la historia de la creación que narra la Biblia. La pieza, apegada al estilo
tradicional de los diseños, es un hermoso canto a los misterios de la
existencia y nuestras raíces.
Mexican Tree of Life is a sculptural piece of mud created by native
artisans of the town Metepec, State of Mexico. Originally, the sculpture
illustrates through their images the Creation story from Bible. The
piece, attached to traditional designs, is a beautiful hymn to the
mysteries of existence and our roots.

NALIP, la Asociación Nacional de Productores Independientes Latinos contribuye al desarrollo de realizadores Latinos y la creación de contenido Latino a través de sus programas enfocados en cine, documental, televisión, y formatos digitales.
Desde su fundación en 1999 por un grupo de productores Latinos, NALIP ha desarrollado varios programas con impacto nacional: la Cumbre de Medios (NALIP Media Summit), el Laboratorio de Escritores Latinos (LWL), la Academia de Productores Latinos (LPA), el Programa de Asesoria para Artistas Latinos (LAMP), Realiza Tu Documental (DYD), El Mercado de Media (LMM), y la Guía de Recursos en Línea (LMRG). Estos programas fueron diseñados para mostrar todas las etapas de la creación del medio: desarrollo, producción y distribución, con un énfasis en el apoyo a creadores Latinos por medio de nuevos conceptos y oportunidades.

The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP)advances the development of Latino content creators through its programs focusing on narrative, documentary, TV, and digital formats.
Since their founding in 1999 by a group of Latino producers, NALIP has created a proven track record of collaboration, success and determination to work in the advancement and development of Latino talent and projects. This is all in addition and in combination with their current signature programs: the NALIP Media Summit, the Latino Writers Lab, the Latino Producers Academy, the Latino Artists Mentoring Program (LAMP), Doing Your Doc, the Latino Media Market, and the Latino Media Resource Guide. These programs are designed to showcase all stages of media creation: development, production, and distribution with a keen eye on how it all comes together, particularly in providing Latino content creators with new concepts and opportunities.

Demian Bichir es uno de los actores más famosos y respetados tanto en México, su tierra natal, como en Estados Unidos. En el 2012 recibió una nominación de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias (Academy Award®), de los SAG (Actors Guild) y una nominación para los Independent Spirit Awards por su interpretación de un inmigrante ilegal que trataba de encontrar a su hijo enajenado, en el largometraje de Chris Weitz’s “A Better Life”. Demian es el primer actor nacido en México nominado por la Academia para el premio como Mejor Actor desde 1957. Actualmente, Demian tiene papeles protagónicos en la aclamada The Bridge, en FX, ganadora del Premio Peabody, y interpretando a “Esteban Reyes” en la exitosa serie Weeds de Showtime.
Sus espectaculares créditos cinematográficos incluyen su interpretación de Fidel Castro en el film Che, Savages de Oliver Stone, The Runaway, The Heat y Machete Kills.

En 2014, Demian Bichir coprotagonizó la película Dom Hemingway y tiene un rol protagónico en la película independiente Death rodada en Buenos Aires.
Demian Bichir is one of the most well-respected actors in his home of Mexico and the U.S. He received a nomination at the 2012 Academy Award®, SAG Award and Independent Spirit Award for his portrayal of an undocumented gardener trying to connect with his estranged teenage son in Chris Weitz’s A Better Life. He is the first Mexican-born actor to be nominated for the Best Actor award by the Academy since 1957. In the U.S., Bichir stars in the Peabody Award-winning television series from FX, The Bridge. Bichir is also beloved for his portrayal of “Esteban Reyes” in the hit Showtime series Weeds.

In Mexico, Bichir is an Ariel Award-winner for Best Actor and a recipient of the Medal of Honor for Merit in the Fine Arts, given by the Legislative Assembly of Mexico City. The ACLU recently appointed him as Celebrity Ambassador for Immigrants Rights.
Bichir recently wrapped shooting on his directorial and screenwriting debut, Refugio, a coming-of-age story of a young dreamer, born in the circus, who embarks on a search for his long lost love.
In 2014, Bichir co-stars in the film Dom Hemingway, and plays the lead in the independent film Death in Buenos Aires.

Gabriela Teissier es presentadora de noticias en “Noticias 34: Primera Edición”, Univision 34 KMEX-TV, la principal cadena de televisión en español de la nación. En los últimos ocho años, Teissier ha tocado temas como educación, sanidad, inmigración o temas de actualidad en su programa de mañana de dos horas. Ha entrevistado a importantes personalidades como el presidente Barack Obama, el Presidente de Israel y Premio Nobel Shimon Peres, la periodista y ex primera dama de California, Maria Shriver o el expresidente de El Salvador Antonio Saca.
Acaba de recibir el reconocimiento “Mejor Presentadora de Noticias” del prestigioso LA Press Club. Teissier ha sido nominada siete veces a los premios Emmy. Este año, fue galardonada con un premio Emmy por su excelencia en periodismo y su papel en el primer debate bilingüe en vivo a la alcaldía en Los Angeles, producido por Univision.
Gabriela nació y creció en la Ciudad de México y ha estado en frente de las cámaras durante toda su vida. Se crió en una familia con profundas raíces en el mundo del entretenimiento y el periodismo. Sus talentos se extienden al canto, el baile, a la actuación y la escritura.
Gabriela también es activa en la comunidad. Es parte de la organización sin fines de lucro ACT Today!, que ofrece terapia y servicios a las familias con personas con autismo. Además, también participa en el comité de la American Heart Association de Los Angeles. Gabriela y su esposo mantienen un delicado equilibrio entre el trabajo y criar a dos hijos.
Gabriela Teissier is a news anchor for “Noticias 34: Primera Edición,” Univision 34 KMEX-TV, the number one television station in the nation. She just received “Best News Anchor” recognition from the prestigious L.A. Press Club. Also this year, she was awarded with an Emmy for her role in the first, bilingual mayoral live debate in Los Angeles, produced by Univision.
She has interviewed important dignitaries like President Barack Obama, the President of Israel and Nobel laureate Shimon Peres and journalist and former first lady of California, Maria Shriver just to name a few. She also enjoys going out in the field and producing multi-part series, where her writing skills come to life.
Gabriela was born and raised in Mexico City and has been in front of the cameras all her life. She was raised in a family with deep roots in the entertainment and journalism world. Her talents range from singing and dancing to acting and writing.
She is also active in the community. She is on the board of ACT Today!, a non profit organization that provides therapy and services for families with people with Autism, and is also a board member with the American Heart Association. Gabriela and her husband keep a delicate balance between work and raising two children.

Luengas cuenta con estudios en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) en la rama de Ciencias de la Comunicación de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales. Inició su carrera llevando cine a zonas marginadas de la Ciudad de México, dentro del proyecto de “Cine Móvil” de la Cineteca Nacional de México. También trabajó como portavoz de prensa y difusión de la Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México.
Luengas fue conductor y director del primer noticiero cultural de la televisión mexicana en el canal 11 de la Ciudad de México obteniendo el Premio Nacional de Periodismo en el área de difusión cultural. También ha sido presentador de televisión de grandes festivales artísticos y culturales, como el Festival Internacional Cervantino que reúne en Guanajuato a figuras de fama mundial.
Por sus logros y desempeño, Rubén Luengas fue considerado un embajador del periodismo al ser invitado especial del gobierno alemán para presenciar y documentar para el canal 11 de la televisión mexicana, la caída del Muro de Berlín.
Luengas también se ha desempeñado como profesor de Periodismo en la carrera de Comunicación en la Universidad Intercontinental, además cuenta con amplia experiencia en radiodifusión, iniciada en la conducción del noticiero “Enfoque” de Stereo 100 y la del noticiero “La Ciudad” de la cadena Radio Mil.
En televisión, fue corresponsal desde la Ciudad de México para los canales de Univisión y Telemundo en los Estados Unidos.
En el 2001 se trasladó a Los Ángeles, California, para conducir el programa “Buenos Días” y el noticiero “En Contexto”, por el que recibió en México durante dos años consecutivos, el Premio Nacional de Periodismo que otorga el Club Nacional de Periodistas.
Durante 4 años, fue conductor del programa Contragolpe en KPFK 90.7 FM y actualmente es presentador del programa “Hablando Claro con Rubén Luengas” que se transmite a nivel nacional por Univisión Radio.
Luengas studied the Communication Studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Faculty of Political and Social Science. He began his career bringing cinema to marginalized areas of the City Of Mexico, including the project “Cine Móvil” of the National Film Archives of Mexico. He also worked as press and publicity spoke person of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City.
Luengas was director of the first cultural Mexican television news on channel 11 in Mexico City, receiving the National Journalism Award in the area of cultural promotion. He has also been TV presenter of artistic and cultural festivals such as the International Cervantes Festival in Guanajuato, which brings together world-renowned figures in the arts.
For his achievements and performances, Ruben Luengas was considered an ambassador of journalism after being a special guest of the German government to witness and document for Channel 11 TV Mexico, the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Luengas has also served as a professor of Journalism at Intercontinental University. He also has extensive experience in broadcasting, he began leading the news program “Focus” Stereo 100 and the news program “The City” chain Radio Mil.
On television, he was a correspondent from Mexico City to channels Univisión and Telemundo in the United States.
In 2001 he moved to Los Angeles, California, to anchor the program “Buenos Días” and the TV news magazine “En Contexto”, for which he received for two consecutive years in Mexico, the National Journalism Prize awarded by the National Press Club.
For four years, he was the air host of the Backlash program in KPFK 90.7 FM and is currently host of “Hablando Claro con Rubén Luengas” which airs nationally on Univisión Radio.

De acuerdo con su misión, la Fundación Universidad de Guadalajara apoya a las organizaciones en la región de Los Ángeles y California que ofrecen servicios técnicos, educación secundaria y de nivel universitario, así como programas culturales y artísticos a las comunidades mexicanas e hispanas que viven en y alrededor de Los Ángeles.

In keeping with its mission, the University of Guadalajara Foundation supports organizations in the Los Angeles and California region that offer technical, continuing, high school and university-level educational services, as well as cultural and artistic programs to the Mexican and Hispanic communities living in and around Los Angeles.
Therefore, we have chosen to donate proceeds to two non-profit organizations that reflect this mission, Covenant House California and Digital Dove.
Covenant House provide shelter and a wide array of in-house programs, including medical and mental healthcare, educational support, GED preparation, job readiness and skills training, drug abuse treatment and prevention, legal services, life skills training and aftercare. These programs are designed to provide our youth with a holistic approach to leaving the streets and achieving independence.

The outpouring of remarkable unique stories, coupled with the enthusiasm of Covenant House California’s residents, led HBO and its parent company, Time Warner, to provide a seed grant for the creation of an onsite program. Built on the philosophy that creativity is a valuable personal and professional asset, Digital Dove offers classes in video arts, media advocacy, employment training, and sponsorship.
Over 500 students have participated in classes, lectures, and field trips, and have together created 60 original films. Digital Dove films have screened at numerous youth film festivals, HBO’s west coast offices, and the Los Angeles Film Festival, as well as LA County training seminars and high schools. Graduates have gone on to train in industry vocational programs, obtain college film degrees, and find full-time employment in the entertainment industry.

Ema finds out she is pregnant with an unplanned child. That same week, her beloved grandmother becomes gravely ill. Spending her last days at her grandmother’s side, Ema is forced to spend time with her estranged, larger-than-life mother, getting to know her and seeing her with new eyes. As she spends time with the people gathered around her grandmother in her last days, Ema re-evaluates her beliefs, her fears, and her set ideas about family, love and parenthood.

Nicolás Echevarria was born on August 8th, 1947. He is a Mexican film director and cinematographer with over 20 films under his directorial name since 1973. His film Cabeza de Vaca was screened at the 41st Berlinale.
Echo of the Mountain (Eco de la montaña) takes a look at the life and work of Santos de la Torre, a great Huichol artist who, like his people, lives in oblivion. Despite having made a magnificent mural for the metro station, Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre, Santos lives in isolation and is ignored by his country. This documentary follows his pilgrimage to Wirikuta, where he asks the gods for permission to make a new mural. During his journey across 385 miles of “Peyote Route,” Santos begins his creative process and decides on his new mural, which aims to illustrate the history, mythology, and religious tradition of the Huichol people.

Echevarria nació el 8 de Agosto de 1947. Es un realizador y director de fotografía originario de México Ha dirigido más de 20 películas desde 1973. Su película Cabeza de Vaca fue seleccionada para proyectarse en la edición 41 de la Berlinale.
Eco de la montaña es una mirada a la vida y obra de Santos de la Torre, un gran artista Wixarika (huichol) que, como su pueblo vive en el olvido. Aun siendo el autor de un enorme mural en la estación de metro Palais Royal- Musee du Louvre, Santos vive aislado e ignorado en su país. El documental sigue al artista en su peregrinaje a Wirikuta, donde pedirá permiso a los dioses para hacer un nuevo mural; es un viaje de 620 kilómetros por la llamada Ruta del Peyote y por el proceso creativo de Santos durante la realización del nuevo trabajo que ilustrará la historia, la mitología y las prácticas religiosas del pueblo huichol.

After a decade as a theater director, Ventura Pons directed his first film in 1977, Ocaña, retrat intermitent, which was officially selected by the 1978 Cannes Film Festival. With 25 feature films, 23 produced by his own company, Els Films de la Rambla, he has become one of Catalan’s best-known film directors.
Flamboyant and unapologetically gay, hiv-positive, Ignasi Millet has led a colorful life, and hasn’t allowed his sexual orientation to deny him a family, hence his marriage to a woman, with whom he’s had two sons and is now openly a lesbian. This documentary portrays Ignasi’s joie de vivre as well as the difficult times he faces: his company goes bankrupt, and he is on the brink of losing his house. Also, his regime of 29 pills per day, and his weekly visits to the clinic where he is part of a trial of a new retroviral medication are reminders that aids is far from being cured.

Matías Lucchesi is a director, producer, and screenwriter born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1980. His feature film Natural Sciences won the Primer Corte Award at the distribution festival Ventana Sur 2013. The film also won the Grand Prix at the Generation Kplus section of the 64th edition of the Berlinale.
In a rural school in the middle of the mountains, a girl who is staring to become a women feels the profound need to discover her true identity. She does not know who her father is and she determined to find him but her mother does not approve it. The hostility of winter in such a harsh place turns this desire into a real threat: freezing in the middle of nowhere. Going behind the school authorities and her mother; her teacher decides to help her. They set off on this quest for truth, but it is not going to be an easy journey. Their only clue is a small rusty plate.

Damian John Harper, born in 1978 in Boulder, Colorado, received his B.A in Anthropology and worked as an ethnologist in southern Mexico. In 2006, he attended the University of TV and Film in Munich where he began his studies on documentary film and advertising direction. Damian describes himself as a filmmaker, photographer and damn good father.
Mateo, 17, prepares to migrate to Los Angeles in order to support his humble family in their small Zapotec village in southern Mexico, yet before he can depart, the leader of the local gang demands that he commit murder to become a member.

Solidarity
Solidarity is a narrative drama short film following two undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles dealing with loss who connect through collective action. The first immigrant is a Mexican woman named Ines, played by Elpidia Carrillo who works in a garment factory sweatshop. The second immigrant is a Lithuanian man named Tomas, played by Mantas Valantiejus, who works in a butcher shop.
Solidarity es un cortometraje del género dramático que sigue los pasos de dos migrantes indocumentados en Los Ángeles. Ambos han perdido algo en sus vidas, ambas historias se conectan a través de la acción colectiva. Uno de estos indocumentados es Inés, representada por Elpidia Carrillo, quien trabaja en una fábrica clandestina de ropa. Después de una breve pesquisa, la policía concluye que el disparo que estuvo a punto de matar al comisario de justicia Constantino Zegarra era una bala perdida. After a short investigation, police conclude that the gunshot which nearly killed Judge Constantino Zegarra was nothing more than a stray bullet. But Constantino, who unlike his peers, fervently adheres to the letter of the law, is convinced someone tried to take him out. He re-opens the investigation, and soon finds himself breaking some of his own rules to prove himself right.

Horacio Alcala studied filmmaking in Venice and Berlin. While working in French TV, he joined the Cirque du Soleil in Europe where he discovered the circus world. Since 2006, Alcala has lived in Madrid where he runs the production company Cámara Boreal. His main interests are music and the performing arts. Grazing the Sky participated in the Encuentro Iberoamericano de Coproducción Cinematográfica, in FICG26.
Grazing the Sky is a compelling look at the lives of trapeze artists and other circus performers. The film was shot for over two years covering 11 countries, including the Americas, Europe and the Near East. It follows the nomadic lives of circus performers. The audience follows 10 protagonists as they try to reach perfection and meet their lofty goals. The documentary sheds light on the contemporary circus world, and focuses on performers who devote themselves to the greatest show on earth.

El documental expone al circo contemporáneo, pero se concentra en los personajes que dedican su vida al mayor espectáculo del mundo. Observa de forma ilusionada cómo se desafía a la gravedad e intenta capturar todas las facetas del arte del trapecio con sus logros y dificultades. El espectador compartirá el esfuerzo de 10 protagonistas que buscan alcanzar la perfección y otras grandes metas.
Horacio Alcalá estudió cinematografía en Venecia y Berlín. Mientras trabajaba en la televisión francesa se unió al Cirque du Soleil en Europa. Desde 2006 dirige la productora Cámara Boreal en Madrid; la música y las artes escénicas son el tema principal de su trabajo. A ras del cielo participó en el Encuentro Iberoamericano de Coproducción Cinematográfica, en el marco del FICG26.

Fernando Coimbra, born in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, studied filmmaking at the University of Sao Paulo. He worked as an actor, dramatist, and video director for Teatro Oficina theatre. He has written and directed nine short films, including Tropico das Cabras and Magnifica Desolação, and the feature O lobo atras da porta, winner of the Latin American Horizons Award at the 61st Edition of San Sebastian.
When a child is abducted, their parents, Sylvia and Bernardo, meet at the police station with the prime suspect, Rosa, Bernardo’s lover. Giving conflicting testimonies leads them to the darkest corners of desire, deceit, and wickedness in the relations of these three characters.

Tres octogenarios emprenden un viaje para cumplir el último deseo de un amigo en común. Durante el trayecto tendrán que salvar los escollos de la ancianidad y la incomprensión de sus familias, pero también vivirán una suerte de situaciones pintorescas y entablarán relación con una serie de personajes que cambiarán sustancialmente su concepción del lugar que ocupan en el mundo: hay vida después de los 80.
Three octogenarians set out on a trip in order to fulfill the dying wish of a lifelong friend, in spite of the disapproval of their families and the limitations of their advanced age. Along the way, they find themselves embroiled in a series of comedic misadventures and meet a cast of colorful characters. Their journey fundamentally alters each characters’ sense of self and their place in the world. There is, indeed, life after 80.

Sara nació y se crió en México. Se mudó a Nueva York en 2005 y encontró su pasión por el cine, un sueño que ha perseguido desde entonces. Ahora reside en Los Ángeles, donde actualmente trabaja en producción de cine y televisión mientras escribir y dirige sus propios proyectos. Además está desarrollando su primer largometraje Falcon Lake por el cual ha recibido el fondo del Instituto de Cine de Tribeca para la realización de largometrajes.
Ha participado en diversas muestras y festivales de animación alrededor del mundo. En 2004 fue distinguido con una residencia en el Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada. Su trabajo se caracteriza por un acercamiento intuitivo a la música y el video, trabajando dentro de una dinámica relajada que favorece la improvización.
Sara was born and raised in Mexico. She moved to NYC in 2005 and found her passion in filmmaking, a dream she has pursued ever since. Now residing in Los Angeles, she currently freelances in film & tv production while writing and directing her own projects. She is currently in development on her debut feature project Falcon Lake, and she is the recipient of the 2014 Tribeca Film Institute All Access Grant for feature filmmaking.
Has participated in various international animation festivals and exhibitiions around the world. In 2004 he was distinguished with a residency at the Banff Center for the Arts, Canada. His work is characterised by an intuitive approach to music and video, working within a relaxed dynamic which favors improvisation.

Un día en familia / A Family Day
In a small town in Mexico, where violence is equivalent to manhood, Diego and his family live day-by-day. He struggles to fit in and prove his worth to his father because he is, by nature, a quiet and sensitive child. The threat of psychological and physical abuse from the older men inthe family constantly looms over Diego. One day, he finally meets someone he can relate to, and his eyes are opened to the consequences of his family’s actions. Diego is left with a choice: will he follow in his family’s footsteps, or will he risk his life and follow his heart?
It is a Sunday family outing in Chapultepec Park. El Negro is not cheered up by a boat ride or a visit to the zoo. His apathy changes when a question leads us to discover that happiness exists in the park, but it has a price.
En un pequeño pueblo de México vive Diego; un niño que crece en una familia en la que violencia equivale a hombría. A él le cuesta mucho trabajo ser aceptado en su hogar ya que es muy diferente: es un niño muy sensible y tímido. Todo los días tiene que lidiar con abuso psicológico o físico por parte de alguien de su familia. Un día Diego conoce a Fernanda, una niña con quien tiene mucho en común, pero al mismo tiempo se descubre la verdad acerca de su familia. Ahora Diego tiene que decidir: ¿seguirá los pasos de su familia, o arriesgará su vida para seguir a su corazón?
Es un domingo familiar cualquiera en el Bosque de Chapultepec. A el Negro, ni el paseo en lancha o visitar el zoológico parecen alegrarlo. Su apatía cambia con una pregunta que nos lleva a descubrir que el parque es un lugar donde la felicidad existe.

Raúl es una película y productor de televisión, director y guionista desde 1996 Después de trabajar para una variedad de empresas de producción audiovisual, fundó Kanaki Films para producir sus propios proyectos audiovisuales. Dirigió y escribió el guión de Nömadak TX, el largometraje documental español que ganó la mayor cantidad de premios en festivales internacionales en 2007, y actualmente está dirigiendo la película Un Día Más estafa vida (también conocido como Another Day of Life), basado en la obra del mismo nombre de Ryszard Kapuscinski.
Pablo Ángeles cursó la licenciatura en diseño de la comunicación gráfica en la uam - Xochimilco. Ha trabajado en posproducción haciendo animación y efectos visuales en películas como Avatar de James Cameron; Hellboy 2, de Guillermo del Toro; Lovely Bones y Tin Tin, de Peter Jackson; El Hobbit, entre otras.
Raúl is a film and television producer, director and screenwriter since 1996. DocuLab.1 Los Angeles
Por la importancia que representa fortalecer y apoyar el desarrollo de la producción y promoción del documental Latino y Latinoamericano, y a sus creadores, FICG in LA ha organizado DocuLab.1 en Los Ángeles, que se llevará a cabo los días 4 y 5 de Septiembre del 2014.
DocuLab.1 Los Ángeles es un evento de especialización documental entre reconocidos expertos y docentes en ese campo y cineastas enfocados en el género documental.
Esta iniciativa está abierta a documentalistas latinos e Iberoamericanos radicados en EE.UU o Canadá y a cineastas Estadounidenses o Canadienses que tengan documentales con contenido latino o latinoamericano en etapa de postproducción.
DocuLab.1 Los Ángeles selecciona 10 documentales que cumplan los criterios anteriores. Tres serán elegidos para ser presentados y evaluados por un jurado de notables, miembros de la industria y patrocinadores, que tendrán la posibilidad de contribuir a la finalización de los proyectos.
El proyecto que resulte ganador además calificará automáticamente para ser considerado para DocuLab.7 Guadalajara o para la Competencia Iberoamericana de Documentales de la próxima edición del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara (FICG) - 6 al 15 Marzo, 2015
Because of the importance of strengthening and supporting the development of the production and promotion of Latino and Latin American documentary, and its creators, FICG in LA has organized DocuLab.1, which will take place on the 4th and 5th of September 2014.
DocuLab.1 Los Angeles is an event specialized on documentary, among teachers and recognized experts in the field and filmmakers focused on documentaries.
This initiative is open to Latin American and Latino filmmakers residing in USA or US or Canadian filmmakers who have Latino or Latin American content documentaries in postproduction.
DocuLab.1 Los Angeles selects 10 documentaries that meet the above criteria. Three were chosen to be presented and evaluated by a panel of notables, industry members and sponsors, who will be able to contribute to the completion of projects.

Sofian Khan is a writer/director. His New York-based production company, Capital K Pictures, is responsible for a wide range of content. He directed, Small Voices -- a short docudrama about human trafficking-- won Best Short at the 2008 South Asian International Film Festival. Sofian was recently awarded a Jerome Foundation Grant for his feature project ‘Gaucho del Norte”.
Gaucho del Norte follows a year in the life of a Patagonian sheepherder recruited by an Idaho rancher to work in the lonely deserts and mountains of the American west. The nomadic three-year journey takes Eraldo Pacheco and his herd of more than a thousand sheep through the ups and downs of breathtaking landscapes and a psychologically demanding lifestyle in complete isolation. Back at the ranch, newly arrived Peruvian sheepherder Jhonny Quispe struggles to adapt to an American dream different to the one he imagined.

Gaucho del Norte sigue la odisea de los pastores de oveja latinoamericanos que son reclutados por rancheros estadounidenses para trabajar por tres años, completamente aislados, cruzando el desierto del lejano oeste en el invierno, y las montañas durante el verano, junto a mas de mil ovejas. Seguimos a Eraldo Pacheco --”ovejero” chileno-- desde su pueblo en la Patagonia, hasta Idaho en EEUU, donde trabajaría por tres años, dejando atrás a su esposa y dos niños. En el rancho de Idaho, Jhonny Quispe, recién llegado de Perú, lucha por adaptarse a un sueño americano muy distinto al que imaginaba.
Andrés Caballero es co-director de “Gaucho del Norte” y ganador de el fondo de Jerome Foundation. En 2014 fue nombrado NPR Above the Fray Fellow para producir una serie sobre el Pentecostalismo en Camerún, salud pública y el conflicto inter-religioso en la Republica Central Africana. Hotel de Paso is a documentary that portrays the everyday life of the deported immigrants that live on this old hotel formerly called “El Centenario” and now known as “Hotel Migrante”; this place represents a microcosm or underworld where good and evil meet through protagonist and antagonistic characters. As life and time go by, as if it was a purgatory with lost souls, every character evolves building this film in a choral manner; each voice brings something different through his own holds: his past, his emotions, frustrations, his survival... all of them have to resolve their migratory situation either by trying to cross illegally again to “the other side”, returning to their home city or country or by surviving on the border.Between the confinement and the wait, the inhabitants of this hotel have to accommodate their lives to the rules and dynamics imposed by those in charge, a civil organization called “Ángeles sin Fronteras”.

Hotel de Paso es un documental que retrata la vida cotidiana de emigrantes deportados que viven en este viejo hotel antiguamente llamado “El Centenario” y ahora conocido como “Hotel Migrante”, el cual representa un microcosmos o submundo que permite la convergencia entre el bien y el mal, entre personajes antagónicos y protagónicos. Mientras la vida y el tiempo transcurren, como si se tratase de un purgatorio con almas en pena, cada uno de estos personajes evolucionan a lo largo de la historia construyendo coralmente esta película y cada una de estas voces aporta algo desde sus propios asideros: los de su pasado, los de sus emociones, los de sus frustraciones, los de su supervivencia, teniendo que resolver su situación migratoria, ya sea intentando el cruce ilegal nuevamente hacia “el otro lado”, regresando a su ciudad o país de origen o sobreviviendo en la frontera. Entre el encierro y en la espera, los habitantes del hotel tienen que adecuar sus vidas a las reglas y dinámicas impuestas por los encargados del lugar, una asociación civil llamada “Ángeles sin Fronteras”.

Karina Garcia Casanova is a Mexican born filmmaker based in Montreal, Canada. Her award winning short films (The Great Thinkers, Disown Delete) have been broadcast and shown in numerous films festivals. She is currently directing and editing Juanicas, her first feature documentary with EyeSteelFilm, one of Canada’s leading production companies (Up the Yangtze, Last Train Home, SPIT).
Juanicas is an intimate portrait of Mexican immigrant family affected by mental illness. Using material shot over almost 10 years, filmmaker Karina Garcia Casanova documents her complex relationship with her mother and brother, both suffering from bipolar disorder. She starts filming when Juan, her brother returns to live in Canada after several years in Mexico. At first the camera provides a distance that helps them reconnect with each other, but soon old patterns returns. As her brother’s downward spiral unravels, the viewer is taken on a journey as heart-wrenching as it is illuminating.

Juanicas es un retrato íntimo de una familia de inmigrantes mexicanos. Durante 10 años la directora Karina García Casanova documenta la compleja relación que lleva con su madre y su hermano, ambos diagnosticados con trastorno bipolar. El proceso de filmación comienza cuando Juan regresa a Canadá luego de haber estado recluido varios años en México. Al principio el hecho de filmar parecería acercar a la familia, pero luego viejos patrones de comportamiento resurgen. A medida que la condición de Juan empeora, el espectador es llevado por un viaje tan conmovedor como revelador.

Donde un programa compuesto por seis películas en fase de post-producción es presentado a todos los profesionales acreditados al Festival -productores, distribuidores, agentes de ventas, compañías de servicios, fondos de ayuda y representantes de otros festivales- con posibilidad de apoyar la terminación de los proyectos y su posterior exhibición.
Con el objetivo de contribuir a la conclusión de largometrajes de ficción, FICG in LA 2014 organiza la primera edición anual de Guadalajara Construye en Los Ángeles 1. Esta incitativa fue designada para cineastas latinos e Iberoamericanos radicados en EE.UU. y Canadá, y a producciones Estadounidenses o Canadienses de contenido latino o latinoamericano en etapa de postproducción.
Durante FICG in LA tres películas de ficción seleccionadas serán presentadas a un jurado de notables, miembros de la industria y patrocinadores con la posibilidad de contribuir a la finalización de los proyectos y su posterior exhibición.
El proyecto que resulte ganador además calificará automáticamente para ser considerado para Guadalajara Construye 9 o para la Competencia Iberoamericana de Ficción de la próxima edición del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara (FICG 30) - 6 al 15 Marzo, 2015.
This unique program selects and presents six projects that are in their post-production phase to industry professionals accredited to the festival (producers, distributors, sales agents, representative of production service companies, funding companies, and film festivals), who can enable the completion of these works-in-progress and their subsequent exhibition.
Wanting to contribute to the completion of Latino and Ibero-American films, FICG in LA has organized the first annual edition of Guadalajara Construye in Los Angeles. The initiative had a call for entries for feature films that are currently in post-production, made by either Latino or Ibero-American directors living in North America (USA or Canada), or by American and Canadian directors who have a film with Latino or Latin American content.
Three feature films seeking postproduction funds were chosen to screen for the jury and film industry professionals at FICG in LA with the opportunity to contribute to the completion of the project and subsequent exhibition.
In addition, the winning project will automatically qualify to be considered for Guadalajara Construye 9 or for the Ibero-American Competition of the next edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG30) – March 6 - 15, 2015.

Six characters from six different cities around the world (Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Oahu, Buenos Aires, Matera and Pamplona) experience an event in their lives that kills something inside them. Unable to cope with these deaths, they are lost and without direction. For different reasons, they will all travel to Pamplona during San Fermin Festival. This dramatic scenario will force them to confront themselves. The relationships with each other will help them face and overcome the conflicts that are killing their inner selves.
La rutina es como un mantra que ha acabado por aturdir a los seis protagonistas de Blue Lips. Por debajo de ese rumor escuchan una voz que les dice que algo no está bien del todo, pero desde hace tiempo ignoran ese ruido incómodo y continúan viviendo sin darle mayor importancia. Un día, sin embargo, todos tendrán que salir de sus hogares y no tendrán más remedio que prestar atención a ese mensaje que les había ocultado el día a día. Por extraño que parezca, será en los ruidosos Sanfermines donde todos encuentren un espacio propicio para la reflexión y el renacimiento.

Melody Djavadi es la Directora de Adquisiciones para Shoreline Entertainment. Nicolás is internationally known for Cabeza de Vaca (1991), one of the most important Mexican films of the 1990’s. He is a film producer, director, and photographer. His career started with documentary films, because of his interest in magic, religion and Indian rituals linked to the use of hallucinogens. In 1973, back in Mexico, he started to work in documentaries. Richard Ray Perez oversees a portfolio of Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program (DFP) partnerships and collaborations including “Stories of Change,” a multi-year DFP initiative with the Skoll Foundation, and the Sundance Institute TED Prize Filmmaker Award. In addition to his work at Sundance Institute Mr. Perez executive produced and directed the feature documentary film Cesar’s Last Fast that premiered in US Feature Competition at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and broadcast simultaneously on the Spanish-language network Univision and Pivot, the cable television network owned by Participant Media.

Nace en Cuernavaca, Morelos, en 1951.
Realiza sus estudios en la Universidad
Autónoma de México (U.N.A.M.) y, desde 1984,
expone su obra como pintor e ilustrador en
muestras colectivas e individualmente a partir
de 1989, en México, Estados Unidos, Holanda,
Francia e Israel. Su obra ha sido distinguida
en numerosas bienales en Argentina, Cuba,
Japón, Italia y Hungría.
José Esteban was born in Cuernavaca,
Morelos in 1951. He studied at the University
Autónoma of Mexico (UNAM). He began
having collective showings in 1984 and solo
exhibitions as a painter and illustrator in 1989.
He has had exhibitions in México, Estados
Unidos, Holanda, Francia e Israel. His work
has also been showcased in biennales in
Argentina, Cuba, Japan, Italy and Hungary.
