DeparttheU.SanduponarrivalinArusha–TanzaniaintoKilimanjaroInternationalAirportyouaremetbyyournaturalistguidewhowillhelpyougatheryourbagsandtransferyoutoabeautifullodgeforyourfirstovernightinAfrica:Ilborusafarilodge

Day2:VisitArushaNationalPark

VisitArushaNationalParkandthenheadbacktothelodgeforlunch.Youwillmeetwithyourmountainguideforahikebriefingandreviewofyourgear,tomakesureyouhaveeverythingreadyforhikingthenextday.(Overnightatthelodge.)

DAY3:MachameCamp

HikingTime:5-7hours Overnight:MachameCamp(9,900feet)

DrivefromthelodgetoMachamegatewherehikestarts.Onceyouarriveatthegate,youwillsigninattheparkofficeandthenyouwillbereadytostartclimbingwithyourguides.Onthetrail,youwillwalkthroughrainforestheadinguptoMachamecamp.Lunchwillbeservedonthetrailanddinneratthecampsite.

DAY4:ShiraCamp

HikingTime:4-6hours Overnight:ShiraCampsite(12,500feet)

Afterbreakfast,youwillstarthiking,leavingtherainforestbehindandcontinuingyourascentthroughtheheatherzoneandsmallvalleyuptothesteeprockyridge.Lunchwillbeservedonthetrailanddinneratthecampsite.

DAY5:BarrancoCampViaLavaTower

HikingTime:6-7hours Overnight:BarrancoCamp(13,050feet)

Afterbreakfast,youwillstarttheascentintosemi-desert.Thisisthelongerdaybutit'sextremelygoodbecauseitwillgiveyoumoretimetoacclimatize(helpingyourbodyprepareforthesummit).LunchwillbeservedonthetrailanddinneratBarrancoCamp.

DAY6:KarangaCamp

HikingTime:4-5hours Overnight:KarangaCamp(13,235feet)

AfterbreakfastyouwillascendtothesteepBarrancowallandtrekacrossridgesoftheKarangaValley.

Thisisanextremelytiringday,butthesceneryisgorgeous.Youwillarriveatthecampsiteforlunchand

havetimetorelax(maybegoforalittlewalkformoreacclimatizationiftimeallowed).Dinnerwillbe

servedatKarangaCamp.

DAY7:BarafuCamp

HikingTime:3-4hours. Overnight:BarafuCamp(15,300feet)

Todayisashorthikebutyouaregoingtoascendthroughanuphillpathacrossthebarrenrockyslopes.ArriveattheBarafuCampintimeforlunchandtakeanapbeforedinner.Gotosleepearlyandgetenoughsleepbeforemidnightasyouaregoingtobeawakenedbyyourguidetobeginthesummithike.Breakfastatmidnightbeforestarthiking.

DAY8:SummitDay

HikingTime:7-8hoursascenttothesummitofKilimanjaro(19,340feet)

andabout7-8hoursdescenttothelastcampsite.

Overnight:MwekaHatCampsite.

TodayisyourfinaldayontheroofofAfrica.Itisgoingtobealongtiringhike.Youwillbeawakenedbyyourguidebeforemidnighttobeginthelastchallengingascent.Breakfastwillbeservedthen.Duringthenight,itisextremelycoldwhenyoureachthispoint,soyouneedtodressinalotoflayers.Onceyoureachthesummit,youwillbeabletotakesomephotosandcelebrateyouraccomplishmentbeforeheadingbacktoBarafuCampforlunchandcontinuingdownalongtrailtothelastcampofthemountain.DescentdownfromthesummittoMwekacampissteep,sowehighlyrecommendusingtrekking/hikingpoles.Hikingpoleswillhelpprotectyourkneesespeciallywhenyouaregoingdownhilloruphill.

DAY9:MwekaHuttoMwekaGate

HikingTime:3-4hours.

ThismorningafterbreakfastyouwillcontinuedescendingthroughtherainforesttotheMwekaGate,whereyouwillhavelunchandbeawardedclimbingcertificatesandsaygoodbyetoyourguides,portersandcooks.Youwillbetransferredbacktoyourhotelforahotshowerandlaterontransferredtotheairportforyourdeparture.
