TRENCHLESS SPOT REPAIRS BACKGROUND
Short Length Liners (Patch Liners), Junction “T Seals” or Lateral “T Seals” have become part of the everyday rehabilitation techniques used in the repair of Faults & Leaking Joints in underground Sewer and Stormwater Pipelines.
These spot repair techniques all use a resin Impregnated woven Felt/Polyester/Fibreglass Matrix to seal isolated faults in pipelines with the use of a rubber inflatable packer. Generally these techniques used an Epoxy, Urethane, Polyester or Silicate Resin.
All resins have a long ambient cure period and unless an accelerant or heat is introduced the cure period cannot be reduced. However, if too much accelerant or heat (steam) is introduced to cure these resins, it may boil the resin, burn and blister the internal PU/PE/PVC sealing coating of the matrix, and steam discharge can collapse existing PVC off takes such as Lateral / House Service Lines.

WHAT IS HOT SLEEVE?“HOT SLEEVE” is the electric blanket to the trenchless spot repair industry. It's a tight fitting sleeve (Heating Jacket) cover that fits over the rubber inflatable “Patch Liner” or “T Seal” packer and using a DC current to evenly heat the internals of a patch matrix resulting in a passive but “SPEEDY” resin cure period.
“HOT SLEEVE” reduces resin curing times by over two thirds, reducing equipment and labour times per installation – in effect doubling and tripling your daily revenue result at the same daily running cost by allowing more installations per day.
THE HOT SLEEVE PROCESS
HOT SLEEVE FACTS
The Cure/Hardening/Setting times will be subject to resin type. However as a guide a resin that takes 90 minutes to cure at ambient conditions will take 30 minutes using the “HOT SLEEVE”.
The client must test to achieve the ultimate cure period, it is recommended that a “HOT SLEEVE” wire temperature not exceeding 70ºC is used. Generally the “HOT SLEEVE” reduces cure periods to one third of the ambient cure period.
“HOT SLEEVE” control unit has settings from 0 to 80 units. 60 units is the recommended setting as all heating resistances have been designed to that target factor.
The “HOT SLEEVE” control unit is fitted to your existing robotic equipment control system; it uses certain conductors in the existing coaxial cable to supply power.
The “HOT SLEEVE” is also available with a separate Trolley, Control Unit, and Reel with Conductor Cable for power supply.
The patch resin matrix is then attached to the Rubber Inflatable Packer completing the patching assembly.
The “HOT SLEEVE” is used as an accessory cover (Heating Jacket) to the Rubber Inflatable Packer that passively heats and cures the patch matrix to a hardened state.
The completed assembly is then inserted into the damaged pipe and positioned to the location of the fault and inflated.
Once inflated the “HOT SLEEVE” control unit is set to 60 units and turned on.Once the “HOT SLEEVE” is fastened to the Rubber Inflatable Packer the “HOT SLEEVE” is protected by a thin film of plastic that covers the entire surface to avoid any resin damage.
