ERAS are periods that slide seamlessly from one to the next and

yet, within their time frames, are unique statements for their time. In Senscience’s new collection,

En Vogue, we celebrate the prevailing styles throughout history, from the colorful and demure

styles of the late 50’s and early sixties, to the dramatic updos’s and styled hair of the 80’s to the

avant garde looks of the millennium. En Vogue is about applauding fashionable hair design and its

adaptability using shape, color and style.

Before Shot 01. First, decide where the parting will be for your client, Then, taking an oval section from the front part area, work around the head, widening the oval as you round the back head shape (about half way between occipital and crown) and continuing the shape to meet back up at the parting in front.

02. You will leave the front hair line out of your sectioning to allow the base color to surround the face and enhance the overall effect.

03. Once your sectioning is complete, lace 6-8 foils through the side sections to pre-lighten the hair to an 9 level warm blond with ActiveLift and 20 volume (peroxide will vary according to your base color you are starting with).

04. Continue the pattern through your back sections. The density here is normally heavier, between 8-10 foils as stated at the beginning. You will need to be the judge of how much color you want to see for the individual client each time. (Do not worry about the lightener going fully to the scalp, as this color will be covered by the surrounding hair on top).

05. Opposite side of pre-lightening foil technique.

Once hair has lifted to desired level shampoo with Senscience Purify Shampoo, then blow-dry ready from placement of color tones.

06. When hair is dry, resection hair into oval and begin color placement with your lightest tone. Place 3 back to back foils.

07. Move to your middle tone and, directly under the light foils, place your second color choice to begin to build up your under color pattern.

08. Complete your foil pattern on the side by placing your deepest shade (your third color choice) in the remaining lighter area.

09. Continue your pattern through the back sections from lightest tone into darkest.

10. Once all foiled areas are complete, you are ready to apply your base color.

11. Apply base color to all remaining hair and time for 35 minutes. rinse and shampoo twice with Senscience Balance Sham-poo or True Hue Color Pre-serving Shampoo and finish with Senscience Balance Conditioner or True Hue Color Preserving Condi-tioner. Add Senscience True Hue Color Treatment Capsules when hair has been towel dried and is ready to cut for the ultimate color protection and shine.

TIP: Remember that when planning your color placement and shape, you must take into account the density of your client’s hair. This is also important to consider

when determining the number of foils you place in each area. When working with an ‘under-color’, you always want to make sure the base color does not fall

too heavily and overshadow your technique.SWING

cut & color technical

color formula

Before Shot

This is an elegantly simple yet effective cut which allows a multitude of finishes because of the flexibility of the length.

01. Take your first section in a semicircle across the front of the head shape from ear to ear.

02. Choose a generous length through the center of the front (at least to the nose or below) and make your first cut.

03. Following this guide, move to the sides of your shape and continue this ‘semicircular’ shape, pulling your shape out to gain length on the sides.

04. Continue to build this shape lifting your graduation a little more each time as you move back through the head shape.

05. Once you have run out of hair, move to the back of your shape. Decide on a suitable length (this will depend on how short your front graduation is) and cut to desired length.

06. Continue to work up the head until you run out of hair. Once your base shape is in, cross check from all angles to complete your desired finish.

If hair is naturally dark or has faded to a darker color and needs a little definition, sometimes a simple yet effective technique with just a few foils can bring color back to life!

01. Take a large triangle from temple to temple and back to the crown. Then take a smaller triangle from the crown to just above the occipital bone. Then, taking 1n (1.0) color with 10 volume, place a sliced foil of black at an angle against the smaller triangle. now leave a section of natural and then place another sliced foil following the same pattern.

SliCeS1n (1.0) with 10 vol

BASe COlOr4v (4.7) with 20 vol

02. Continue your foil placement moving forward on the head for about 7-8 foils until you come to the temple area. repeat on the opposite side, remembering to leave a slice of natural between each colored slice.

Once slices are complete, color remaining hair with the base color of your choice, in this case 4v (4.7). Process for 35 minutes and then shampoo twice using Senscience Silk Moisture Shampoo and finish with Senscience Silk Moisture Conditioner. Add Senscience True Hue Color Treatment Capsules, and you’re ready to begin your cut.

THISsoft and demure look with romantic curls is a perfect

vehicle that celebrates the age of innocence. Inspired by the feminine-looking hairstyles of

the late 50’s, this hairstyle has been updated for the modern woman to also exude coyness and

sensuality. The color is bold yet youth in all its glory.

Before Shot

Our model was colored using i.luminate 4A (4.1) for shine and depth.

01. Begin your cut by sectioning from temple to crown, moving the top hair out of the way.

02. Take a line from the temple to the bottom of the side (by the ear). Hold just between your fingers close to the scalp and cut.

03. Continue this graduation back with a traveling guide, working past the ear and into the back.

04. Once you have competed the side, move the ear aside and remove any excess softness you may have in your shape.

05. Tip: Pull ear back and away when cleaning shape to more easily clear the shape.

06. Once shape is clean, repeat on opposite side.

07. remember while graduating to always work past center in the back to make sure your haircut cross checks as you move through.

08. Once your sides are complete, move to the front top section that you have left out. Begin by pulling the section forward to an exaggerated length (much longer than the sides) and choose your disconnected length and cut.

09. Take your next section and gradually work back, lifting each section slightly as you go.

10. Once you run out of hair, cross check your shortest point from the back in with the longest point from the front.

11. Finish by refining your cut and scissor over comb to further define your fin-ished look.

INSPIRED by rebellious icons James

Dean, Elvis and Marlon Brando, this look creates a powerful presence with a raw edge for

today’s male. A man’s cut needs to show off his personality. The Edge provides strong shape

and gives one the adaptability to move from work to play quickly and effortlessly. Short and

sharp with extra length on the top helps a smooth look become tousled and wind swept while

still keeping its Edge.

Before Shot 01. Begin by separating the front of the hair from the back by taking a section from ear to ear.

02. remove the front hair in a clip in preparation to begin the braiding in the back. Then at an angle, take a parting from one side of the back and drop it at an angle to the bottom of the ear on the opposite side. Clip the bottom hair out of the way; now drop the crown hair down, ready to start your braid.

03. To the side of the back section take 3 strands. You are ready to start your braid.

04. now, taking a direct line across from your side section, begin to braid the hair.

05. As you braid, begin to pull (drag) the hair directly down from the top or crown while keeping the braid on the same part at the bottom of your section.

06. As you begin to move past the first 2 or 3 sections of your braid, lift the braid away from your stationary guide at the bottom and begin to pull the top section down further to elongate the shape.

07. Continue to drop the shape, taking one extra section from the top every second passing of the braid to elongate your shape further.

08. As you reach the bottom of this section, spray lightly with Senscience Designer Hair Spray for shape and shine.

09. now with the last section by the ear, you will continue the braid but you will begin to move in the opposite direction, still dropping the braid sections down. At this time you will remove the clips so the hair you will be working on is free to braid.

10. Take the first long section from the underneath area and, bending the braid, continue your shape back in the opposite direction, dropping a little each time.

11. You will continue this pattern until you run out of hair. Then elasticize the end to hold the braid in shape.

WITH Posh, we celebrate the decadent and stylized looks of

the 80’s. With a versatile braid, we create an elegant updo that is a moving example of stylish

pattern weaves. The look’s gentle bends and waves move freely, blending seamlessly with the

defined front pompadour. This look is exemplary of the age but transcends into a look that

today’s socialite or fashionista can wear to any elegant gala or red carpet event.

12. Moving to the front section, spray the hair with Senscience Thermal Design. The hair is now ready for the Hot rollers or Curling Iron/Tong.

13. Set front to desired pattern for a complimentary finish to the back shape. (I have chosen to roll back for lift and sophistication).

14. Once hair has cooled, back comb front area to add volume to shape and again lightly spray to add firmness to shape while building.

15. Once backcombing is complete, lift the braided section up to the side of your shape, close to where you began the braid. Pin and secure into place.

16. Complete by smoothing and finishing your front shape, bringing the hair over the top of the braided area you have lifted. Spray with Senscience Designer Hair Spray and finish with a dusting of Senscience Brilliant Defense for that extra shine and brilliance.
