The word “Lollywood” was first coined in 1989.

The film industry in Lahore started in 1929 . Pakistan  feature films shot in Pakistan are

in Urdu and also in other languages e.g. English and Pashto etc.

Pakistan shared its film history with India from 1896 to 1947.

Mian Abdur Rasheed Kardar was the man who started film making in Lahore.

First Punjabi film was ”HEER’RANJHA” in 1932. Begum and Rafiq Ghaznavi played title role in film.

“Do Aanso” A Pakistani golden jubilee film released in 1950 on screen for 25weeks.

The first ever Golden Jubilee Urdu film in 1954 was “SASSI”.

Another film of the same genre i.e Drama and love story was made in 1968 as “SASSI PUNNU”

The songs of the Film “SASSI PANNU” were sung by KAUSAR PARVEEN.

The first diamond jubilee film of Pakistan was ZARQA, released on 17 October 1969.

Anjuman, was released on 31 July 1970.

In 1970 the first Pushto film was released which was “Sher bano”

1970 t0 1979

After the trendsetter like Maula Jatt in 1979, the violence was introduced in Pakistani film industry.

1980-1989

1990’s era

Reema and Shan were introduced. Saima replaced Anjuman with Sultan

Rahi’s death in 1996.

Choorian was the trend setter block buster released in 1998.

Huge grossing of 200 million.

Turned the cinema back to soft-romantic Punjabi movies

Yeh Dil Apka Hua by Javed Sheikh was released with the intention of moving the industry towards Urdu cinema, & Javed Sheikh succeeded

It grossed 200 million rupees

Khuda Key Liey turned the tables from Voilent Punjabi & Romanticized urdu movies. It gave a subject that moulded the thinking style of audience

Gained the attention of audience, though with some controversial ideas but still

Geo Films continued efforts with their 'Revival of cinema', the Pakistan New Cinema Movement was launched in

2009. The efforts seemed practical with the

release of Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Bol, Raamchand Pakistani followed by Zinda Bhaag & Waar

Now more youngsters are stepping in & we can expect a more better cinema from the educated & sensible generation.
