“9 So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. 10 So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especial-ly for those of the family of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10 NRSV

The region of Galatia was a rather large sparse region. Churches in this area were not as we think of them today. Christians met in houses, often far from other churches in the same region, some in what we would consider “small towns”. Despite this, they grew in faith even in the midst of a cul-ture that was individualistic and often made it difficult for believers to share their faith.

These words are comforting yet challenging for us today. Many of us do “grow weary” in our min-istry to others. It’s time consuming and at times physically, mentally and emotionally draining work. Yet there is a promise “we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.” In addition the ad-monition to “work for the good of all” reminds me of the grace of God working, wooing all people closer to the love of Christ. In addition working for the good of those of the family of faith.

One congregation in Mediapolis does this through a lay visitation ministry. Trained lay servants provide encouraging care to shut-ins and members of the congregation in care centers. In addition on communion Sunday they extend the table to those who could not attend worship, offering the same body and blood they shared in worship that day.

As we approach the celebration of our Saviors birth let God’s Holy Spirit minister to your heart and mind with the words from Galatians 6.

Blessings to you!

Pastor Jeff

ADDRESS CHANGES Mrs. Lynn Kasiske 617 Poor Farm RD Francestown, NH 03043-3205 ANGEL TREE Trinity will be making Christmas brighter for children from the Keokuk schools again this year with our An-gel Tree. The tree will be located in the narthex and Decorated with the names and gift suggestions for stu-dents ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. Simply select a tag representing a student, purchase and wrap a gift and then return it to the church to place under the tree with the original tag. Our congregation has gener-ously given to students in this way for several years and we know it is greatly appreciated by the students as well as the staff at the schools. If you are unable to get to the church to get an angel tag from the tree, but want to participate, just call Mary Jo Riesberg (319-526-3160) or Karen Beim (319-795-5786) and we’ll make sure you are able. The Angel Tree is a way as a congregation to spread the joy and love of Christmas in our community.

TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL MEETING OCTOBER 26, 2016 Chairman Sally Tedrow called the meeting to order with twelve members in attendance. Pastor Jeff offered the opening prayer. Members present included Sally Tedrow, Pastor Jeff, Joyce Sapp, Carol Nelson, Terry Twitchell, Mike Krebill, Mary Jo Riesberg, Kris Payne, Jim Merritt, Nancy Baugher, Mary Morris and Janice Lindner. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer’s report for September stated YTD income of $122,971 and YTD expenses of $136,977 which nets a negative difference of $14,006. $3,000 has been paid YTD for apportionments versus a budget of $26,441. The Treasurer’s report was approved. There was no Foundation re-port this month. There was some discussion about program and outreach funds and how they are reported on the monthly report. FINANCE: Information has been requested from all Chairs for the 2017 budget if changes are required. TRUSTEES: The Kone bill for over $2,000 has been paid. We are working with the insurance carr ier r e-garding the Alliant outage and subsequent repairs needed to the bells system and the elevator. This is being ad-dressed with the insurance carrier and Alliant. Parking lot repair of $3,500 will be done before winter; however, seal coating at a cost of $9,372 will be postponed until next year. This was approved. As a part of a discussion about use of the van, a problem was discovered at the bank concerning the signature card and key for our lock box which is missing. It will cost $150 to drill out and make a key. Hopefully, the van title is there and, if not, we will apply for a duplicate title. The plan is to obtain a fire proof box to place in the church safe and close the lock box currently at Pilot Grove Bank. This was passed. Snow removal bids are being solicited, the energy audit is pending and farm manager, Bob Fox, is working with current farm tenant regarding a $160 per acre price versus the current rate of $180. Current taxes run $3,053.33 and annual profit is $18,000. A suggestion was made to ask for $165 per acre and Trustees will have a recommendation next month. LAY LEADER: No repor t SPRC: The committee is looking at staff salar ies. Anytime there is a question regarding the staff, please con-tact either Pastor Jeff or a member of the SPRC committee. EVANGELISM: There will be a car ry-in lunch on November 6th. Seventy letters have been sent to members who have not attended for two years. A list of inactive members will be presented at Charge Conderence so that those names can be taken off the membership rolls. UMW: The budget, which is a little lower than before, is done for 2017. There will be minimal car ry over of funds from 2016. A money making idea of hosting a community meal, such as the one held at Hamilton United Methodist, was discussed. The fall rummage sale netted $2,100 with $300 of that coming from the Bake Sale. UMW has worked on funeral luncheons, God’s Way dinner and will attend the District Meeting on November 12th in Eldridge, IA. During the November Unit Meeting, each member is asked to bring two cans of food for Limited Resources. Work is being done on the membership book. SCOUTING: The Gir l Scouts are now meeting at the Lutheran church. The Cub Pack now has 35 members (up from 23) and meet on Tuesday evenings for one hour. The Boy Scouts have 23 boys and meet on Monday eve-nings for 2 1/2 hours. There are now 18 adults helping with this program. The Summer Festival booth with Scout information helped to boost the Cub numbers. On October 8th, four boys received their Eagle Scout awards. Octo-ber 17th was Family night with a Court of Honor. The boys are all making good progress. Youth protection training program is ongoing and is available online. The water fountain repair project continues in the Scout room.

Administrative Council Meeting Minutes from October 26, 2016 continued OUTREACH: This committee continues to suppor t Loaves and Fishes (where 70 plus meals were served) and God’s Way dinners. The missionary presentation, recently held at Trinity, was very good. Items for health kits are being gathered for the Ingathering on November 5th. School kits are also being provided. A family to be adopt-ed for the holidays is being sourced and plans will be made and communicated for this project. WORSHIP: Hanging of the Greens will be done after Church on November 20th. The candles in the sanctu-ary will continue to be lit each Sunday. EDUCATION: The Chr istmas Program will be held on December 18th. Practice will begin on November 6th for approximately 30 minutes after Church. The program will also incorporate the Choir. Education is looking at the budget and will be cutting back on curriculum and a new catalog has been requested. MEDIA: No repor t. MEMORIAL: No repor t. LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE AND PASTOR’S REPORT: People are cycling off var ious committees and those slots need to be filled. The membership secretary needs to be someone else other than the Financial Secretary. The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at St. John’s on November 20th. Donations from this service will be given to Limited Resources and there will be a dinner served afterwards. Pledge cards have been mailed out in the newsletter. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, at 6:00 p.m.. Respectfully submitted, Joyce Sapp, Secretary Junior High/Elementary Sunday School The class will make decisions after New Years about Mission Projects, but they will help in our local community, state, nation, and world as they have for the past several years. The projects will reflect the UMC Four Areas of Fo-cus to 1) minister to the poor, 2)improve global health, 3)grow vital churches, and 4)developing Christian leaders. Last year the youth chose to contribute to the Choctaw Mission in Mississippi for their national project and the Mo-bile United Methodist Missionaries in Iowa after looking at several choices. Their global projects were Heifer Inter-national and Imagine No Malaria. I predict Heifer will be included this year and maybe there will be a new global project. Locally they took two angels from our Angel Tree and sponsored the fall food drive. They plan on repeat-ing with the Angel Tree and have switched their food drive to the end of the school year. In anticipation of their projects, they are having a Christmas fundraiser. Christmas ornaments are available in the narthex for a free will offering. The ornaments are based on a project the class did earlier in the year and I’m sure they would be glad to explain what the lesson was. KEOKUK HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR CITIZENS DINNER Keokuk High School will be hosting its thirtieth annual Christmas dinner for Senior Citizens (60 year and older) on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016. There is no charge for the dinner. Senior Citizens are asked to call the High School 524-2542 extension 3 for reservations by 2:45 p.m., Friday, December 9th. Students help prepare and serve the din-ner. Transportation will also be provided from Mississippi Terrace, Heritage Center, and River Terrace and Hotel Iowa. Arrangements for transportation may be made when making reservations. Organizations planning the event are Student Council, National Honor Society, the Special Education Classes, and the KHS Music Department. The High School Cafeteria staff assists along with the teachers and sponsors. If you know of any Senior Citizens that may not be aware of the dinner, please mention it.

October 2016 Dear TUMC Friends and Family, Thank you for being a partner in the ministry of Trinity United Methodist Church! Your on-going fi-nancial contributions are making a difference in the lives of many people. While receiving your own unconditional welcome at the Table you have discovered the joy of giving in faithful response. One of the vital new ways we are reaching out into our neighborhood is through our website, social media presence, local radio broadcasts and housing a community day care facility! That is just some of the ways in which we do creative ministry and mission. Each month our church serves meals at God’s Way and playing host to groups such as Cub/Boy Scouts, and Weight Watchers are some of the real ways in which we are changing lives. We are, as Jesus did in his earthly ministry, “turning the world up-side down” bringing wholeness to lives that are broken - bringing hope in the place of despair. This is the power of the Gospel message! The practice of generosity is a faith discipline. It is the mark of a growing faith and deeper walk with Christ. We ask you to join us in our ministry of giving by completing a pledge card for the year 2017. 2017 will be another challenging year with a weekly need of $4205.00 a $53 increase from 2016 to meet all our expenses. We urge you to complete a pledge card today and mail it to the church or place it in the offering. Blessings, 2016 Finance Committee Mary Morris, Pastor Jeff, Sally Tedrow, Terry Twitchell, Mary Jo Riesberg, Kim Boyd, Jim Fleming, Janet Dinkle

WORSHIP COMMITTEE

This year we will continue with our 7pm Christmas Eve service of CANDLES and COMMUNION! We will have a SINGLE ser-vice at 10:15am on Christ-mas Day in the sanctuary! We are always looking for folks to help our worship committee by being on the committee and/or serving as ushers! See Bob Dorothy

A quick up- date on the num-ber of books Trinity has provided to children in our community in the past 15 months - 994. The books will make a tremendous impact on the children's lit-eracy by allowing more reading to take place at home and placing value on books and reading that the par-ents may not be able to provide without this help. The improved literacy leads to brighter futures. Now is a perfect time to give new books to the children in Head Start. Many of the students are new to their program and we can help with their introduction to reading. A collection jar has been placed in the nar-thex if you would like to contribute or call Janet Din-kel (524-7712), Karen Beim (795-5786), or Mary Jo Riesberg (526-3160) if you have any questions.

LEADERSHIP/SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Our congregation is in need of a Stewardship/Fundraising team to help generate idea’s on how our church can boost our giving and fundraising income. Anyone is invited to join the team! This team will assist the finance committee and church in reaching our financial goal of paying 100% of our apportionments in 2017. Contact pastor Jeff if you are interested.

FROM YOUR OUTREACH COMMITTEE Thank you to all Trinity members who are involved in our Outreach projects this holiday season and through-out the year. Thanks to all who purchased items for our Ingathering kits this year. We had a total of 70 health kits, 20 school kits and 4 layette kits. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with the preparations at God’s Way for their annual Thanksgiving boxes and the meal that was served on Thanksgiving Day. We are planning to continue our Outreach efforts at God’s Way in the coming year. We will be helping to serve the Thanksgiving/Christmas meal at the Loaves and Fishes meal on Thursday, December 1 at the First Lu-theran Church and will also be continuing to serve meals there in 2017. On December 9 at 3:30 p.m. the Hope House will be needing volunteers to help set up their Christmas give away at Hawthorne School and on December 10 at 8:30 a.m. volunteers are needed to help the children do their Christmas shopping. Please contact Kris Payne, Sally Tedrow, or Denise Estrada at Hope House if you would like to be a part of this excit-ing event. Outreach has chosen our adopted family for 2016/2017. The family consists of two parents, a teen-age girl, 4th grade boy, 3rd grade boy and a 4 year old boy. A sign up sheet will be available in the narthex on Sunday, December 4. We have given the family a gift certificate for Thanksgiving. Please continue to bring food and non-perishable items for I CAN, you CAN, we CAN. These items go to the Community Action and God’s Way food pantries. Once again, everyone, THANK YOU for making Trinity United Methodist Church a CARING, LOVING and SERVING church in our community and our world.

UMW NEWS The unit met with 15 members present. Joan Brown and Lyn Dorothy served a festive delicious coffee enjoyed by all. The unit voted to give the same amount ($50) in each of the end-or-the-year Christmas gifts of support to Boy Scouts, God’s Way, Hope House, Limited Resources and Women at the Well. The church staff will also receive Christmas gifts of appreciation. It is greatly because of the wonderful support we receive from you, the church, throughout the year that UMW is able to give these gifts and other help to various types of mission in the area and throughout the world - and for this we are most grateful. Thank you.

The sign-up sheet for the 2017 program booklet received more signatures for hosting, co-hosting and doing (or providing) program for the meetings. Some program vacancies continue, but they will be filled related to events, interests and needs in the community and in UMW at that time. Thank you all for signing up. It is hoped we will be able to have the 2017 Program Booklets ready before the end of 2016. At the Mission Day Retreat on Nov. 12th in Eldridge, IA, Helen Ackerson found several Reading Program books dated from the 2011 to the 2016 Programs displayed in the District’s lending library that are still approved to be in-cluded in the reporting for 2017’s reading program which she brought home with her to Trinity readers. These and two other 2017 books have been put on the library book cart in the narthex. Stop by and check them out. UMW members were asked to bring non-perishable food items for Limited Resources to help them during the holi-day season. 12 filled grocery bags were collected and delivered to Limited Resources that day. There, staff members shared that paper product items are also in great need by the community during the year, but are not as often consid-ered by donors when giving. Martha Kirchner presented the November program on UMW’s annual observance of World Thank Offering given to support the inter-personal program side (not for up-keep) of institutional buildings of UMW’S mission work. The Offering is taken as a physical thanks giving by the UMW members in appreciation for the blessings and graces each of us has received from God during the year. Following the meeting those who could stayed for a period of periodic kitchen clean up and straightening. Thanks to many hands all work was completed within that next hour. Thank you, ladies, for jobs well done. Baking and serv-ing dishes that once contained delicious food brought to the church kitchen, but were then forgotten to be retrieved and have been left in the kitchen for considerable time were collected and moved to the round table in the narthex, hopefully to be seen and reclaimed by their owners. If you see a dish that is/was yours, please stop your search and take it back home. Thank you. Our December unit meeting will be at 9:30 on the 21st as Christmas social gathering (minus planned business meet-ing and program). Coffee will be hosted by the members of the Executive Board. Come for a brief time of good food, fun and fellowship. Carol Jean Nelson, President of UMW
